Boom Lettering
Hi all, I am in the process of changing the name on my boat and am looking for a color code for the vinyl letters on the mizzen boom. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Thank you all for your answer my question. Especially Bill - you are my Doctor Amel. So as I feel a good water stream out of the hull, temperatures are good - I think every thing is OK. Wolfgang Weber SY Elise Amel 54 #162 Marina in Thessaloniki

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Isolated converter
Hi Eric, It was me. I'll try again. It has nothing to do with connecting the bonding to the converter. Inside the ICOM SSB, the 12 volt negative is connected to the SSB ground point. ICOM recommend you connect the SSB ground point, and the Tuner ground point, to the radio grounding plate on the skeg (which is in the sea water). With your non-isolated converter you now have an electrical path from the 24 volt negative to the immersed radio grounding plate and through the salt water to the anodes on the rudder which are connected to the ship's ground bonding. So you have a path from the 24 Volt negative to the ship's ground, which in Amel land is not allowed. Two ways you can deal with this 1. Use an isolated converter. The 24 volt input negative is isolated from (not connected to) the 12 volt output negative, so the fact that inside the SSB the 12 volt negative is connected to the SSB ground is no issue since there is no connection to the 24 volt negative. 2. with a non-isolated converter, install a relay in the 24 volt negative feed to the non-isolated converter, powered from a switch (or the existing cct breaker in the hanging locker, but that's a pain to reach) which you use to switch the 24 volt positive on to your converter and REMEMBER to switch it OFF when not using the SSB. This will connect the 24 volt negative to ships ground, as discussed above, BUT only while you are using the SSB. The short time won't cause any corrosion issues. Cheers Alan Elyse SM437

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Isolated converter
Gee, Eric, That must not have been me. My SSB has never worked and I am as dumb as you can get when talking about them. I want to get it working b4 I head for the Pacific...on my growing list. Kent

I believe we spoke abut an isolated power supply for the ICOM. Why can a non isolated
be used on the icom?

Eric, I understand completely. When I do not understand something that Amel has done in a Super Maramu, I assume that Amel must be right and I do not understand. In all my years with Amel experience this personal rule has not failed me. This same rule does not apply to recent things Amel has done. philipp.sollberger@...
Hi Alain,
Thank's a lot for all your explains. I have a fixed prop and 2 years ago I got 3000 rpm with about 8 knots max speed. Two years ago, all the prop entretien was done by AMEL specialist at La Rochelle. For me it is understandable, with a heavy boat and not cleaned hull that I loose speed in the range of half to max 1 knot and not 2 knots at the situation today. Does anybody already have changed the timing point of the injection pump or the injectors themeselves to get more speed with more gasoline that accelerates the rpm when moving with gear? I will ask the specialists from AMEL next time when I will be back in La Rochelle at the famous shipyard. Fair winds, Philipp

Hello Wolfgang;

On our 54, we have the 11KW generator also. The water and exhaust exit the hull in two separate holes. The water is the smaller hole just forward of the engine exhaust. It is easy to see the water exit the small hole due to the slight grey color of the water. Respectfully; Mohammad and Aty B&B Kokomo Amel 54 # 099

Wolfgang, I haven't answered because I am not 100% sure and was hoping someone else would answer. I am95% sure because I read the 54 Owner's Manual page 5-1 which states that the Generator water exhaust and the Generator gas exhaust exit the hull in two different places. The 11kw Onan has a water separator installed by Amel. On page 6-3 of the Owner's Manual, it states, "After having started the engine or the generator, check that the wet exhausts of these both appliances are throwed in the sea through the holes “D”, “E”” and “J”." The 54 User's Guide on page 1-3,states, "About the exhaust circuit of the generator: It is fitted with a muffler where the exhaust gas is mixed with seawater and therefore cooled down. They are forwarded to a water separator (see the Picture 2 – Water / gas exhaust separator of the generator), to reduce the noise. When the generator is running, make sure that seawater flows out of the hole, and the gas through the exhaust discharge outlet on the hull. The Picture 3– Valve to close the outlet of the cooling water gas exhaust of the generator shows this valve. I hope this answers your question. Now, I have one for you. Where do you buy zincs for the 54 bow thruster? Is there a part number? Hi Philipn,
I have a TMD22 too and a Maxproip. My max speed is 8knots at 3000rpm. Most of the time a change in performance and/or important top speed change is due to somebody having changed the pitch of the propeller; Did you maintain you propeller recently? Fair winds Alain
