Hi Andy,

Welcome.  Below is a list of Amel 46’s Maramus in YW.  Not everything that glitters is gold… however, in EU, Michel Charpentier is top notch.  Check the listing as there should be 1 or more listed with him… he will not list bad boats.

Good luck!

John,

I am pretty sure that post is glassed in.  It certainly does not lift out, and I have not seen any other mode of attachment.  That makes it really, really secure--and very difficult to remove.

Why do you want to remove it?

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Lofrans Tigres Undersized

Alan Leslie

Ours is, sort of, the same...no Lofrans relay box...there's a black 'Amel' knurled knob that allows the whole thing to come out...not so easy, you have to push it.....but it makes relay changing or anything else much easier.
We have a separate switch for 'Guindeau OFF' that doesn't disable the genoa furler.

Cheers

Pat,

That panel with the relays does come out (at least it did for me!).  Trying to work with those wire connections inside that forward cubby would be a nightmare!  There is a black plastic hand screw in the cabinet that, when removed, allows the wood panel with the wiring for the jib furler and windlass to be removed.

On my boat, the brown wires were the control wires carrying +24V from the switches to the relay coils.  Blue was the -24V back to battery negative. Gray wires were +24V for the coils of the jib furling relays.  I don't see any black wires.

There are some pictures and schematics here:  https://fetchinketch.net/boat-projects/windlass-wiring/
Hopefully they will help.  If you need something more specific, let me know.

Newer boat owners should note, that at some point Amel started using the control box from the windlass manufacturer and not their own relays so your boat might look quite different.  I don't know what hull number that change was made or if there were any other changes made before or after #160!

Bill, I have received my Quick windlass control. I can't see the relays well enough to read the labels . I always assumed the panel detached from the cabinet to better access it. There is a brown wire (common I believe ) and a blue and black wire . Could you tell me , where you connected those wires ? It would save some time experimenting in a tight difficult spot to reach .

Good morning Brent,

To add on Mark’s comment.
I took the ASA classes (101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 106, plus docking and celestial) so the biggest sailboat I was on was a 39 Beneteau. Despite the increase in size, it was not a problem at all.

Prior purchasing and having mine delivered, I read over, over and over the owner manuals until I knew them by heart. They are severals, all a little different (some in English, some in French).

With time, you will have to learn to do your own maintenance, like the bow thruster and C-Drive every 2 years.
It is not difficult, just time consuming. Dont believe shipyard can do this maintenance, they likely never did it, so you will do a better job yourself.
Here is an example for the bow thruster.

I have many more illustration which I need to organize on my web site for people to look at.

Thanks Mark… I was just
(Re-)reading your excellent blog!  Seems like I’m about 5

Henri did things differently  than most but there was most
often a darn good reason for it and once you understand
that, you have a hard time looking seriously at anything
