That's just plain rude Hanspeter. I guess you were never a neophyte with a big boat and all kinds of systems that you never had to work on. I was (and still am), but I'm getting better, thanks to the helpful people here. We all try to help with what ever problems others are having. Just delete the posts that bore you. Kent SM243 Kristy

Wow! This is really mean.
If someone wants to post or help, then let them.
You don’t have to read this you know.
Please don’t choke the forum with hate mail or your opinions on how the forum should or shouldn’t work. You don’t have to be on this. And besides, Paul is new to this forum and his Amel. There is a lot to learn and you should not judge him because he is an Amel novice. I hate having to write this but someone needed to. With best regards,

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] RPMs
hanspeter baettig
Hi again Pat you are in fresh water, means for me salt water but clean and nice to swim. anywy i can put my 27 years old perkins, 4 cylinder, turbo, 3800 h normaly to 2800 rmp, i do that only in emergency situation ore after long motoring, but only maybe 10 min. to clean the exhaust. And since 22 years with my boat, never had a problem. and pls dont run your engine at 3000rpm, its to noisy😬 so whats the problem? and how to solve it 1. go to amel school-> Bill 2. Your engine is charged with some adittional load, alternator ?? I ' dont think bad c-drive, worn out bearings inthe different amel systems? vetus coupling ? in neutral position, engin off, you can turn the shaft by hand easely, both side? If you put on the engine at 2200 rmp? what is the noise in the engine room. Think about that. Hanspeter Von meinem iPad gesendet

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] RPMs
Patrick McAneny
Hanspeter, I dove on my prop today and it was pretty clean, but scraped it anyway, the bottom had only a slight slime/growth , my boat lives in fresh water. Its been far worse and always ran up to 300 rpm.

dont touch the Bosch injector engine !! if you dont see diesel is coming a little bit out of the injection conection to the cylinder input; then your problem is elswere.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] RPMs
Pat, the fact you can get to 3000rpm in neutral doesn’t tell us much. It is the load that is causing the problem. The engine is not generating enough energy to offset the applied load. Fuel is energy. This usually means fuel issues. The more load, the more fuel is needed to create the horsepower.
Where you able to get to 3000 rpm right before you changed the filters? Or, was this something you did to try to fix the issue?
Here are some additional thoughts on fuel:
Do you have a lift pump for fuel? (not sure on the Volvo and your Amel). If so check the diaphragm, Air in fuel lines (connections loose). The engine will pull air rather than fuel if it can. O-rings sitting correctly on fuel filter give a good seal? If you changed the fuel filter is the new one sitting correctly and sealed?
A couple of other thoughts:
Check for blockage in exhaust hose (not enough air to burn fuel) I know you said you cleaned the prop but is it possible something is caught in it (piece of rope or fishing line)
Let’s hope it is something this simple J

Mark, Thanks for getting back . I used the same and correct filters. I observed that the linkage moved forward well beyond the 2200 point , but no further increase in rpms. The engine seems to run smoothly , if it were an injector would you have a noticeable telltale ? Is the fact that in neutral It gets to 3000 rpm mean anything? Thanks, Pat -----Original Message-----
Pat,
Here is a great page to give you some additional thoughts: https://www.sbmar.com/articles/understanding-low-power-troubleshooting/
White smoke is usually a sign of not enough air intake or failing fuel injector(s). However, white smoke is usually pretty noticeable. You say “a little white smoke” so I would not think it is an indication.
Also, another common issue most people do not check is the throttle linkage. Can you get RPM if you go down to the engine an manually move the throttle?
Else, I would start with the fuel system and work from there. “replaced both fuel filters” did you replace them with the same type?
Tubo failure will usually pump out black smoke.

Mark

I have not been able to get above 2200 rpms , normally I have always gotten to 3000 at full throttle on my Volvo TMD 22A . I just cleaned my fixed prop and replaced both fuel filters , still won't go beyond 2200 rpm. It will get above 3000 rpm in neutral and I notice a little white smoke. Any thoughts on what could cause the limited rpms in gear . I rebuilt the turbo 3 years ago. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I just read that the military has landed in the BVIs and St. Martin to restore order . That has to be a relief to those stuck there . Our thoughts and good wishes to everyone impacted by Irma. Re: Chain counter
greatketch@...
Kent,
Just to be sure it's clear, on our boat both the sensor AND the display units were changed to Quick models. The Quick sensor is a hall effect switch, not the inductive sensor as on the original chain counter. I am pretty sure the Quick sensor would not be compatible with the original display unit. My understanding is that the original sensor is a small coil, and as the magnet in the gypsy goes by it generates a current pulse, which is what counted. In the Quick unit, the magnet closes a switch which what is counted for each rotation of the gypsy. The Quick sensor just needs a pair of wires from the sensor to the display unit. Any pair of wires will do. No need to pull new ones. The current model chain counter from Quick (the CHC1203) looks pretty much identical in function to ours (CHC1202) but with more modern esthetics and display. It is available from QuickUSA The Quick unit is more than just a counter, it can be (but does not HAVE to be) wired to the windlass control relays as well. It is a smart controller, and has some cool features, but I find I rarely use them. Bill Kinney SM160, Harmonie Deltaville, Virginia ---In amelyachtowners@..., <karkauai@...> wrote : Hi Bill K. All, I see that you used a Quick replacement of the sensor for the chain counter. Did it require running a new cable? I'm not sure if my display/brain is any good (looking into that now). If not, is there another model that works that can be obtained in the US? Kent SM243 Kristy Annapolis
