Thank you for the quick reply! Also, so sorry to hear about your boat and all of the other issues you have had with Hurricane Harvey. St. Maarten is one of my favorite places and I used to live there several years ago, mostly while doing work there and is certainly on our list of sailing destinations. I hope things are getting better on the island for you and others. I have heard from a couple of friends, but not all, just hoping they are okay and simply dislocated. You are in our thoughts at all times and we are always hoping for the best for you!

Having recently purchased Super Maramu
#105, we encountered a minor issue during our first pump out
and that issue being that the standard pump out adapters do
not simply screw on to the SM deck fittings, so of course I
used the non threaded push in attachment, which again was a
bit of an issue due to the diameter of the pump out at the
deck. Simply wrapping some rubber gloves around the
attachment, and holding it an a very specific position
allowed me to finally get the tanks pumped out. My questions
is this, "Is there a better method"? I have
actually considered getting an adapter made at a machine
shop that would allow us to simply use the standard pump out
attachments at the various marinas we will be at in the US.
Once Marina recommended changing the deck fittings for
something standard here, to which I said no, in fear of the
"Keeper of all things Amel", Bill R. haunting me
during every pump out.
Any previous experienced
fixes or suggestions to this situation? I apologize if this
was already a topic, but I did search and didn't see
it.

It is important to note that the manufacturer of the "Line Tender" that Amel modified to run the outhaul on the main boom and used for the main sail traveler ONLY recommends 12 mm line.  

If you try to use 10mm line you will have problems with it slipping.

   Thanks for the recommendation, it is good to know that this company has recent experience with the 4-154.   I will give Diesel Parts a call this week to find out the scoop on replacing the seal and maybe even use them at some point to go through the whole injection system.  It would sure be sad to loose a whole engine because of something as simple as a seal failing. 

   You must be very excited about your plans to purchase a late model Super Maramu.   I think that the SM is the pinnacle of the Amel designs from what I have seen.

We replaced our AMFA pump back in 2011 when we were in Vanauatu, proved to be a very expensive exercise, only to have it fail again 2013. Old technoligy I'm afraid, the the plumbing method is used on every residence who are surviving on a rain water tank. I am not sure what the small Acumilator did that was mounted on the top of the pump itself, but we retained the 10 ltr Accumilator mounted behind the Quick Marine Boiler (Hot water system) that maintains a regular water pressure. We replaced the AMFA pump with a SPX Johnson Pump WPS 3.5. I managed to wire up the green light in the galley and the system has worked perfectly since.

Fred,

I just climbed into the engine room and double-checked. Mine are the same size on each side of the Heat Exchanger. I also measured them and 3367 is the correct size at 32mm ID on one side and 51mm on the other. However, take this with a grain of salt as I have no idea if Amel used the same cooler on all SMs.

I had the same issues pumping out initially until I found Alex from Nikimat's page. I used that design to make what my wife and I affectionately call the "poop straw". We used this fitting from Defender:
Deck Fill Diameter: 1-5/8 Inch
Actual Thread Diameter: 1-1/4 Inch MPT
Threads / Inch: 11.5
Model #: 310343503

I simply screwed the fitting into 1.5" ID Sanitation Hose without any sealant or adhesive. We store it in a garbage bag in the port side deep locker.

This enabled us to pump out. However, we still struggled to get a good seal between the pump nozzle and the fitting on the "poop straw" mostly because the fitting did not sit flush with the deck due to the length of the hose. I decided to inspect our tank design and found that the bottom of our holding tanks are only about 17 inches below the deck. The drain hose from the bottom of the holding tank to the ball valve is obviously much further below the deck but getting the "poop straw" down in that hole was not easy and made the fitting not sit perpendicular to the deck. I decided to cut the length of the "poop straw" to approximately 17 inches below the foam seal on the fitting. I also made sure to cut the bottom on a bit of an angle. The fitting now sits flush with the deck and I can simply press the pump into the fitting to get a good seal and can pump out with ease. It doesn't empty the tank 100% but it does get the vast majority out and it now takes us no time and the process is significantly cleaner too. I will add a new album called "Holding Tank Pump Out" with some pictures of our "poop straw" to the photos section.

For the outhaul I use 12 mm rope with vectran core, the benefit with Vectran over dyneema is less creap and less elongation at load. The 12 mm give better grip in the Anderson line tender. The disadvantage with Vectran is poor UV stability, but as you have a cover that is less of an issue. In Germany you have Liros rope they do a lot of Vectran ropes both with low friction and high friction. Of course choose a high friction rope. We bought from Liros and it works well. Remember to pre stretch the rope before installing

Hi Dan,

No issue about pressure. It blows nearly the same pressure than the AMFA (no need for particular precaution in term of faucet opening/closing, just normal operation and normal pressure)
In order to be the best spare part you have to prepare the pipes and diameter adaptors to connect with the copper pipes (one is coming from the tank and is below the salt water "machine gun ;-)", the other is filling the circuit starting with the watermaker filter 3 ways gate.
With you 1m pipe ready for the both sides, you're ready to change in a matter of minutes by connecting the 3 wires (I remember that the white is for the green light panel indicator but I'm not currently on board)
Quick disconnect is just a smart system allowing to connect/disconnect easily… no worries about that it's strong and waterproof.`
