However I ordered the marine kit for my go phone. The coaxial cables are completely different. The one supplied with the go and the go antenna is an extremely low loss cable. It is thick and stiff but was able to get it to the shelf on the starboard side of the companionway. I always get a good connection to Iridium with this cable and antenna.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Dish washer/washer dryer
Same as most the others on this thread. The clothes washer is excellent, quiet and we hang the washing to dry. It is such a pleasure to have that really good Thompson washing machine on board. We love it! Todate, we have never yet turned the dishwasher on, as we prefer to simply wash the dishes by hand. Colin & Lauren Streeter SV Island Pearl II, Amel53 #332 Langkawi, Malaysia

I have exactly your setup.
Installed, older iridium phone, and New iridium go with adaptor. My findings:
Iridium Go at the Nav station with native antenna: 3/10 in connectivity
Iridium Go at the nav station hooked to phone antenna with adaptor: 5/10
Iridium go with native antenna outside: 8-9/10 in connectivity.
The ratings are my subjective opinions based on now a good bit of use.
Take home message: the older sat phone antenna is convenient, but not as effective as I’d like and often frustrating. I’ll probably buy the dedicated Go antenna.
I’d love to know if this mirrors your findings as I know of no way to actually test the older antenna to see if it’s “good”
Best of Luck!

Re: Hurth Gearbox heat exchanger coupling
Thanks Bob,
Do you have the BOWMAN part number for the heat exchanger? If they're only $160, I should maybe replace the whole thing just to be sure? Or at least to have a spare. Cheers Alan Elyse SM437

Gary,
For the last couple of weeks I have had the same issue with trying to access the photos section. Despite re-logging in to my Yahoo account (which is necessary to access file or photos sections, and also to comment) it was still problematic. Today, however, I got complete and fast access to all photos in the photo section. Not sure what changed. Derick Gates SM2K#400 Brava Still on the hard in Antigua

Exactly, when you clamp the new rubber reducers on, it is important to be careful not to tighten them too much. I'm sure you know this but I thought I would get it in the posting for anyone referencing this in the future.
Related, the exchanger is one of the first things downstream from the strainer to check for obstructions. When the rubber is removed and replaced for inspection it is important not to overtighten. The exchangers only cost about $160 or so, but the leakage of saltwater into the transmission can be much more costly. Bob

Re: Hurth Gearbox heat exchanger coupling
Thanks Bob,
It's actually the rubber end caps on mine which are cracking and splitting. I want to change them before disaster strikes. The heat exchanger is made by BOWMAN and I found a local dealer who has them in stock. Cheers Alan Elyse SM437

Drawings and/or Schematic of Sharki fuel tank
CAMERON BURNESS
One last question for the Forum from Gibraltar for the day.
Are there any drawings or schematics of the Sharki fuel tank, 1984 vintage. We are going to have to empty the tank and see what it is like. We have not as yet fully investigated the tank ourselves, that is tomorrows job. Any advance information and/or drawings associated with the fuel tank on the Sharki before we start would be appreciated. Thanks Craig & Cameron Daal II, #97, 1984 Gibraltar

Some advice on the set up for a genoa car on a Sharki
CAMERON BURNESS
Could the Forum please help with the set up for a genoa car on a Sharki.
The boat had some painting done and the yard removed some parts, as my son had only limited experience of the boat before returning to skipper in Guadeloupe he can not remember how it was set up. If the Forum could please share some photographs of the genoa car set up on their Sharki’s it would be appreciated. Thanks Craig & Cameron Daal II, #97, 1984 Gibraltar

New engine options for a Sharki, #97, 1984
CAMERON BURNESS
My son and I would like to check the experience of the Forum of an engine change in a Sharki.
As mentioned previously my son has recently bought a Sharki and we are currently in Gibraltar working on it. The old Perkins engine is very tired and the results of the compression test were not good. My son has decided to run it until it gives out, this maybe soon or it could last a some time. I would like to ask what engine the Forum would recommend for a Sharki. What are the benefits of the chosen engine and what should we look out for when the change needs to be made. Any other experience on an engine change in a Sharki would be gratefully received. Craig & Cameron Daal II - #97 1984 currently in Gibraltar

Re: Hurth Gearbox heat exchanger coupling

Hi Alan,
I posted this quite awhile back but the Bowman Guy in Malta (I was buying a new spare from him) told me that the transmission heat exchanger rarely (kind of like never) fails UNLESS the end caps are tightened too much. This cracks the solder joints. I guess tighten them snuggly and then check them immediately when you splash or open the seacock, then with motor on, etc. and check for sea water in the transmission oil frequently for a while. Hi, I have a Maramu hull 91 and need information on the steering system. The shaft that the steering wheel connects to has twisted at the pinion gear. I assume during her lifetime someone has backed her into a bank, I don't thing you could twist the shaft by hand. I cant find any branding. Does anyone know where i can purchase a new shaft? The square rack gear is made of a bronze material and appears to be fine. I'm a marine engineer with a machine shop but i cant cut the gear on the shaft. I just thought if parts are available it might be an easier option. Thanks David Maramu "Popeye" #91
