Eric - thanks for getting a list together. Jessica and I are looking forward to meeting the others when we head down to Le Marin. We will be there 12/15 - 22, 1/9 - 15, and 2/23 - 3/4. We’ll be down there again around 4/27 at which point we are planning on sailing up to Rhode Island.

Re: Bow Thruster Travel Adjustment
greatketch@...
Tom,
The correct adjustment is where you ended up. The last few millimeters of lift certainly should be by hand, squeezing the wires together. This makes sure the pin is actually taking the load of the motor (which is HEAVY). It would be not good at all to have the jack screw supporting the weight of the motor when pounding into a head sea. As you also noted, if the pin is not doing any actual lifting, it just falls out. This adjustment also prevents the jack screw from "dead heading" against a excessive load. This would also be very bad for it. This is one case where the correct adjustment is much easier to actually achieve than the wrong one! Bill Kinney SM160, Harmonie Fort Lauderdale, FL

Re: Bow Thruster Travel Adjustment
greatketch@...
Paul,
On mine (which is older and might be a bit different...) the primary adjustment is where the cable attaches to the top of the motor. If you loosen the jam nut, and pull the pin that hold the cable in place, there is a significant amount of vertical adjustment in the position of the motor by turning that fitting and varying the depth of thread in the motor. I wouldn't adjust the position of the limit switches unless it was clear that was needed, and there was room in the travel of the jack screw to accommodate the change. Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Easy Lock Companionway Slide

Bill, I am also adding a block of some plastic like nylon or something more shock resistant to the area above the locking board. In this way when I pull up the companionway it will be in the exact place to close the latches. I am tired of having to look at the board to see if it is lined up. The files on the homemade cam were posted by Bill Rouse. They are a great design and I am sure work well, and certainly look great.
As a full time liveaboard, the option of machining teak really isn't available to me. Even if it was, my time is more valuable than the cost of the commercially available lever cams.
Of course there are others who would enjoy the process of making them from scratch, and not put a price on the time involved. They will end up with something more elegant than I have and I would not begrudge them such satisfaction for a second.
The commercial product is certainly not as nice a solution as the custom made teak cams, but are they are way better than the handwheels!

Tom,
Thank you for your response. I have been using the cable grab method to insert the pin, but what is the procedure to adjust the lift mechanism? All the best, Paul Stascavage SM #466 - s/v Rita Kathryn Cruising St. Lucia www.RitaKathryn.com

[Attachment(s) from greatketch@... [amelyachtowners] included below] When I first saw a Super Maramu, I thought that some kind of cam would be a much better solution to clamping the bar that locks the companionway than the fussy hand wheels that were used. I gather that toward the end of the production run, Amel saw that light and started using them.
I put that thought aside, never actually looking for a solution until I was on Steve's TouRai this past week which had been retro fitted with cam levers... "Hey! Where did you get those?" He pointed me in the right direction. Turns out what I thought was a very clever idea might well be clever, but is not exactly original.
There is one company in Germany, Kipp, that makes a wide variety of various goodies, including an assortment of cam levers. The ones that I needed were M8, internal thread, cam levers. They are available in an assortment of materials, coated steel, aluminum, plastic, and stainless. Pic the look you like, and pick your price (from US$12 to US$80 each)
These are the ones we installed: http://amzn.to/2BL5AOM
If you adjust them so the levers hang straight down when open they don't turn, and stay adjusted as you want them. Just lift the handle, and the bar looks down. Quite slick.

Re: Bow Thruster Travel Adjustment
Hi Tom,
On the SN there is a fixed retaining post for the locking pin. You insert the locking pin fully through the shaft hole, then rotate it so the bent end goes behind the retaining post, preventing it from accidentally slipping out. When removed the locking pin stores down a hole on top of the port side the vertical support tube. I suspect the SM is the same, but perhaps not. Cheers, Craig SN#68 Sangaris ---In amelyachtowners@..., <no_reply@...> wrote : Hey Paul- it seems like almost a two part problem......first, you want to get the pin in to create the seal. This can be done by just pulling the lift wire, lifting the thruster the remaining few millimeters to get the pin in. The second part involves the more complex task of adjusting the lift mechanism to achieve the correct height when the red indicator light indicates full lift on the unit.........personally, I have never mastered this. At one point I had it perfectly aligned but this yielded a new problem. With the holes perfectly aligned at full lift, there was no friction on the pin and in rough seas the pin actually slipped out after it was fully inserted. So I now lift it the last few millimeters by hand and insert the pin so the weight of the thruster holds the pin in place while keeping the seal firm. Bottom line, not a drop of water in the bow thruster bay. I will be anxiously reading these responses because one of the old salts always has a way to improve processes like these. VARIPROP--This is follow-up on the model, size and pricing information that I received back from the German company S.P.W. GmbH . The size used on our Redline SM was a DF-112, ø 22" x 16" pitch ahead x 14" pitch astern LH rotation for ISO 35. The current pricing is €4.469,80. I had asked them about other Amels and their response was "
Yes, we fit... mostly 4 blades onto AMEL Yachts. Some were
smaller sizes, some same DF-112 types as well, depends on the Yacht and
engine details." Hope this is helpful to anyone inquiring regarding the Variprop. I do have their pdf price list if anyone needs it. Bob, KAIMI SM429

I would be very interested in peoples experience in replacing the AMFA Marina bilge pump in terms of fit-up. I plan to buy a spare and have it ready for the day the AMFA fails.
Some prior posts seem to indicate that parts for the AMFA Marina pump are no longer available, is that true? Thanks, Duane Wanderer, SM#477

New Autoprop Specs
Hi all, Having made the decision to order the Autoprop, I just wanted to check the relevant specs to make sure it fits ok. I am ordering the following from Bruntons:
H6-566mm 3 Blade Autoprop I am fairly confident that Bruntons know what is needed for the Amel 54, however the only two items I cannot confirm from the Amel documentation that I have are the Gearbox Ratio 1.97:1 and the shaft diameter 35mm. The 1.97 is correct for the ZF transmission, so may I assume that the C-Drive is 1:1? Stella is a 2010 model Amel 54. Many thanks Dean (back in Sydney) SY Stella Amel 54 #154
