If this is the boat mentioned by Mark in the Netherlands. I also went to see it about 2 years ago before we bought SeaBean. At that point the rotten floor was still in place and when I brought it to the attention of the broker it was the first he knew about it. At least, that’s how he acted. He said it’d be fixed at the sellers expense yada yada yada. I know of at least one other that looked at and passed on it for the similar reasons. It’s interesting to hear from Mark/Olivier there were other issues of neglect. And also interesting that it’s still not been fixed. Good luck in your search. As an aside, Michel Charpentier’s stock of boats was of much higher quality than any others I visited. It’s with regret that we won’t be able to list our boat with him when we finish this adventure (we’re in the South Pacific now!). Cheers, James. SeaBean SM344 Raiatea, French Polynesia.

Re: Anchor locker floor rotten
mfmcgovern@...
James,
If the 2001 Amel SM you are looking at is located in the Netherlands and listed by Devalk Brokerage, I have been on that boat and had it "partially" surveyed by Olivier Beaute last year. If you don't know who Olivier Beaute is, search this forum. He is widely regarded as the most knowledgeable and experienced surveyor of Amels in the world. I say it was "partially" surveyed because Olivier found so many issues during the first day of the survey that showed a pattern of complete neglect that my wife and I decided not bother to paying to launch the boat for a sea trial on the second day. We had travelled to see her from the USA and paid for Olivier Beaute to come from France to complete the survey. Despite my pleading with the broker to disclose ALL known issues to me AFTER I sent the deposit and booked the flights and the survey and after assuring the broker that I was coming over to see the boat no matter what they told me, it quickly became clear when we arrived and saw the boat that many obvious defects were not disclosed. Needless to say, I was not pleased. However, despite this, I did share with the brokerage the list of issues that Olivier found in the hopes that they would either be addressed or at least disclosed to future potential buyers. None of the issues were "catastrophic" in nature but there were just so many that it showed this boat has NOT been well cared for the past several years. Feel free to contact me offline at mfmcgovern @ gmail dot com for more information. I will happily share the list with you as well assuming that we are talking about the same boat. Hopefully they will have fixed some of these. I don't want this post to come off as "sour grapes". And I am certainly NOT trying to torpedo a deal or screw with someone who is trying to sell their boat. I am just trying to help a fellow lover of Amels to learn from my (bad) experience. This experience was a very valuable (albeit pricey) lesson for us but was not completely without some positives. It solidified that we really wanted an Amel SM. We learned a ton about the Amel SM and it's systems and what to look for in the 1.5 days that we spent with Olivier. He is an outstanding teacher! That education was priceless and really helped us when we finally did find our Amel SM (which we also had Olivier Beaute survey!). Good luck and feel free to contact me with any questions. Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Anchor locker floor rotten
James
Hi Jean-Pierre Many thanks for reaching out. I have watched all the videos of Ken’s Acquarius. It’s an excellent tour of their SM. We have a Tayana 37 which we’ve cruised for several years, but really looking forward to a bigger boat and subsequent family planning! (Getting married in July!) I think the repair on the locker should be fairly easy.. an opportunity to perhaps better use the space and further stiffen the bow section. Any information on hull #311 would be greatly appreciated. I’m not sure if that’s frowned on or not, but I’ll throw it out there anyway and see! Many thanks again James

Hi James,

Welcome. As your broker suspects, the floor is a lattice arrangement and may have rotted over the years. I lower the anchor/chain and wash the area twice a year. I let it dry if possible before bringing the chain/anchor in.. One great video giving a detailed tour of an SM2K was produced by Aquarius. Only 30 minutes but thoroughly presented, it would flatten your learning curve considerably. “Aquarius Sailing around the world” or something like that. VVG tour. Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] VAT in Martinique
John Clark
Bill you may be right. At the time my boat registration was still being processed so it was considered a French vessel. Doug Rapier handled the export as well as the VAT exemption.

That looks very nice.
What is the reason of the rectangular hooks on the inside of the flat strips? Any idea on the load bearing capacity of the davits? Do you have drawings/measurements available of this design? Thanks in advance, Arno

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Looking for a Super Maramu 2000
mfmcgovern@...
As a recent SM buyer (July 2017) here's my recommendations on who to contact when looking for an SM:
In the USA: Joel Potter http://www.yachtworld.com/jfpottercys/jfpottercys_0.html In Europe: Michael Charpentier http://www.yachtworld.com/mcyb/mcyb_0.html In Caribbean: Caraibe Yachts JP Bahuaud/Stephanie Dupland http://www.caraibe-yachts.com/fr/broker-detail.php?id=3 JP works out of Guadeloupe and Stephanie Dupland is in Martinique in Le Marin literally next door to the Amel Offices. I worked mainly with Stephanie Dupland on my purchase and it was an absolute pleasure. She even helped me AFTER the sale was closed getting the boat ready to bring back to the USA. Not something you generally hear about working with a boat broker! Good luck in your search! And last, use Olivier Beaute as your surveyor: http://atlanticyachtsurvey.com/ He's absolutely fantastic. Lovely group you've got here with an amazing amount of good information to hand. We hope to contribute in coming years as we cruise. I am looking at a 2001 SM currently for sale in Europe. We plan on long distance indefinite cruising with a family. The boat, for some reason has had it's anchor locker floor cut away, the agent suspects it was rotten. Has anyone experienced this same issue? Just seems a bit strange as I've not heard this before on a SM. Many thanks in advance James SM buyer!
