Eric,
No it didn't. I've since been told by the Dessalator guy in Spain that it was a brass plug that just screws in to block the hole. It's probably in case you want to connect the supply from the other side. The brass has corroded and I just need to replace it. Cheers, Paul Ya Fohi, Amel 54 #98

Isaac,You may be able to feed the tack /bolt rope into the furler's slot below the cutout .That would support the tack from being pulled aft by the outhaul.

Mark, In my experience with at least 40 SMs, the foot of the mainsail is normally about 6" +/- 1" from the boom when the sail head and the halyard are rigged to the swivel correctly. In all cases that I have seen where the foot is not
6" +/- 1" above the boom, it was because either the head or the halyard were rigged wrong. If your mainsail is rigged correctly at the head, the halyard is correctly attached to the swivel, and the sail foot is still 1-2" above the boom, I do not have enough knowledge to tell you that performance is impacted, but I do know that Amel did NOT cut the sail to where the foot was 1-2" above the boom. It could be OK...I simply do not know. I hope that this helps you.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: new Genoa
Bill & Judy Rouse <yahoogroups@...>
David, I think that you agree that the most important thing about a genoa for the SN, SM, 54, 55, & 64 is that the sail fit the downwind pole system, unique to each model. I have read all of this discussion and I do not believe that I saw mention of that.

Craig and Pat, thanks for the info on the Amel way of purposefully rigging short halyards. I did know that about the main and should have thought to check if the mizzen was the same way before dropping it...lesson learned.

Re: new Genoa
Dave_Benjamin
None of the genoas in the Amel sailplans are 150%. The overlap percentage is calculated by this equation - LP/J. LP is a line forming a 90 degree angle with the luff and terminating at the clew. Most Amel genoas exceed 160% using the measurements on the factory sailplans.

Just a thought, Bill. Did you repeatedly whack the tensioned puller with a hand sledge hammer? Sometimes that does the trick.

Re: Toe rail / Genoa Track Repair
alanwood123@...
Thanks for the feedback and advice.. I'll follow up all those suggestions.
Yes, they are SS bolts - my mistake - I think they've been exposed for so long they've developed a powdery coating which makes them look nylon. Also noticed on closer inspection and digging that the water penetration seems to have come from a previous repair.. I think the frost we've had in the Med lately has found it's way into the small cracks in the repair and forced it open.. which would explain why it's only just become apparent. So, to echo James's question - has anyone had any luck removing the genoa track bolts or is it really a drill out job? Maybe a good dose of WD40?

Good morning Eric,

First of all congratulations for little Nolan coming this June !!! I love the Bahamas. Just like you I work so internet is important to me. One of my favorite place is Port Lucaya in Grand Bahama because of the reasonable monthly marina rate, access to groceries and other infrastructure, etc. In 2014 I spent 4 months in Port Lucaya Marina / Yacht Club and paid $600/month. In 2015 I spent 3 months in Taino Beach (also in Port Lucaya) which became my favorite and paid $540/month. Because of their huge pool with a some shallow area, I am certain you, Viki and especially little Nolan will love this place! I can look for pictures to send you. The beach 3 minutes walk away from the marina, they are places to walk, lay down, etc. They also loan you towels for a $10 deposit and you can exchange them as often as you want, which you will realize is a considerable saving on laundry/generator time especially with the little one!. I used my bicycle to go grocery shopping, but they have a bus going twice a week. In the super market you will find groceries as well as baby supplies. I can not imagine a better place for you and your family. Regarding the draft, you will have to wait almost “mid tide” to enter/leave the Bell Channel. Port Lucaya is only 90 NM from Miami/Fort Lauderdale, so less than a day trip should you need to go. They i also an international airport. Later in I also suggest you spend 1 months in Great Harbor Cay in the Berry Island. It is an overnight trip from Grand Bahama. I was there in low season so the price was $540/month, the prices are higher now, but I think you can negotiate and you get a discount with Active Captain. Surprisingly the internet was the best I have seen in the Bahamas. There was no issue to enter the channel even at low tide. The beach was 20 minutes walk from the marina. They loan you bicycle if you don’t have any, the water is clearest I have seen. There was no real grocery store some come prepared, therefore the fishermen come back every afternoon with 250 to 250 lobsters and sell you “tail only” for $10/lbs. Sailing along the coast is excellent for fishing! As Nolan grows up (but wait him to be tall enough for all the ride), then a stop in Atlantis is a must. Not sure who will like the place the most Nolan or dad! But it is quite expensive per day. Nassau is an overnight trip from the Berry Island. There is no worry for the draft. Atlantis is also very protected from Hurricane. Hope that helps, please feel free to contact me directly if you want pictures of the places. Enjoy your trip! Sincerely, Alexandre --------------------------------------------

Viki and I are expecting (this is why the boat is on the hard right now) our first little crew member Nolan (insert middle name) Meury will be arriving this June. Our plan is to spend November and December around Stuart Florida as Nolan will be signed up for infant water survival classes there. Then we are thinking of heading the bahamas for a month and then back to GA where we will keep the boat for the next hurricane season. I have two requirements for the bahamas... 1. Some place that has access to mobile internet or awesome wifi as i still have to work m start up (www.pascalworkflow.com) and my tax practice. 2. Some place that we don't have to worry about draft (marsh harbor or Georgetown? - other ideas) Also would love some Amel specific or non amel specific for those that have had their baby on board. Thanks again

I like your idea of treating the heads of the stainless bolts with the Corrosion X or Boeshield followed by the plastic protective cover and am thinking of adopting that procedure on my Amel. I was wondering if any Amel owners have had luck with removing the genoa track bolts? It would be great to be able to renew the caulking seal between the bolt and the fibreglass to prevent the entry of salt water which causes this kind of damage. Even the best caulking tends to break down and lose their seal after 10-15 years. One other question. I have not seen the swelling and rust as shown in the photo on the Maramu’s that I have been aboard to date even thought many of them are a decade or more older than the 1997 SM shown in the photo. Is this a known problem for the Maramu models as well or is there some difference in the construction? Best, James Alton SV Sueño Maramu #220 Arbatax, Italy

I have since dioscovered that water is coming out of the pump from an aperture opposite the high pressure outlet. It looks like there is a thread in this and I assume that some bolt has come out although I can't find it. See the image below. Any ideas? Cheers, Paul Ya Fohi - Amel 54 #98

Technicians in Cape Town and Trinidad tried to remove the gear box with a hydraulic puller but it would not budge. Recently, I removed the motor which drives the gearbox and it seems to be in good condition, so I assume its the gearbox which has a bad bearing or is really gunked up. There appear to be four nuts holding the gearbox to the underside of the winch and a gear inserts up into the winch which prevents complete disassembly of the winch itself. Two days ago the winch stopped working electrically, but I can hear the motor turning with no movement of the winch. It still works manually. I checked with AMEL in Martinique last year and they had no clue what to do. At this point it seems the best thing to do is sell the boat. But hopefully someone has a good idea on what to do. Any ideas welcome. I am currently in Guadeloupe. Best Regards,Bill ShaproskiS/V Pacific Cool
