Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Do you want a spare Linear Actuator control board?

mfmcgovern@...

In an odd coincidence, I was working on a making a replacement PCB for the Bowthruster Linear Actuator before Duane made this post. I didn't want to say something about it on the forum until I actually had one completed and tested on my boat though I did reach out to Duane through an intermediary to let him know that I was already in the process of making a replacement. I finally finished the successful testing of the prototype this past weekend.

I uploaded some pics of the prototype PCB on the forums here: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/amelyachtowners/photos/albums/1697584458

And here is a link to a video of the bowthruster being lowered and raised back up using the the prototype PCB: https://drive.google.com/file/d/107vwBIrFxJI3APtEOF7hsBGKZMM6B8lP/view?usp=drivesdk

The PCB design mimics the original one in my SM #440 as much as possible. It has a 10 amp fuse and the traces are all sized larger than the original PCB. I used the original components wherever I could. So far I've made only the one board, but if anyone else is interested, I can readily make more within a few weeks and can offer them for sale at $250 each (plus shipping) with a 3 year warranty. You can contact me at mfmcgovern at gmail.com if you are interested.

I hope this helps some of you. My next project is to attempt to make a drop in replacement for my non-functioning chain counter display unit. I expect this one will be a bit more difficult but I will let you know if and when it is done!

Thanks everyone! It seems like I have been thinking this was going to be a nightmare of a project but "should" be pretty simple. I love the longer bolt option! Hopefully, it really is as simple as that! And if it just needs to be retapped, I can certainly do that in the water!

Cheers!

Thru-hull fitting for Depth

Duane Siegfri

Can someone tell me about if the OEM thru-hull fitting for the Airmar depth sensor is a 51mm housing?

Mine is marked D800-P498 on the tag attached to the sensor wire, and "20-386-02" is printed on the top of the sensor.  I'm looking at the Airmar DX900+ and it says it will retrofit into the 51mm housings.  I cannot find any legacy product information on the Airmar website.

I remember a thread not too long ago on replacing the B&G Sonic Speed with an Airmar CS4500, and someone said they had to enlarge the hole to accomodate the new sensor.  The CS4500 also notes it will retrofit into most 51mm housings, that's why I'm concerned.

Thanks,

Duane

Craig,

we have an Fischer Panda 4000i with a 1 cylinder kubota engine, 4kw.  Initial it had fixed RPM ~2900 but two years ago I upgraded it with a variable speed option (step motor that pushes the throttle depending on the load), now it turns between 2400 and 2900, depending on the load.  normally it runs with low speed because normal load is 1 to 2 kw, so it runs with ~2500. It runs more silent now and only uses ~0,5l diesel per hour compared to ~0.8l we used before.

I have the same issue, Oliver advised me to drill a new hole and thread it as the mild steel plate is rather large so just drill a new hole besides the old one, or drill a larger hole and thread that, I guess what ever will work.

Although I've not had to do it aboard, I have previously had to re-tap a hole like this.
I drilled it to the next size and tapped it, then inserted a "Heli-Coil" thread insert to bring it back to the original size.  At an auto parts store you can obtain the whole kit; drill, tap and inserts.

Best!

I had what I thought was a similar problem. I used a longer fully threaded bolt and all has been fine for years.

Hey all -

Wondering if anyone can shed some insight on the SM rudder bonding setup. I've seen the diagrams however, if anyone has experienced or repaired what I am about to describe it would be greatly appreciated for future reference.

My starboard anode no longer threads into the hole provided. I assume the threads are completely stripped. Port side is still good and is working properly. My initial thought for an easy fix would be to re-tap a larger size thread. I think currently it is M10x1.25 with a 17mm hex head. Maybe a M12 tap (if possible)?

Thoughts?

Mine was only a capacitor.
But try first to press longer/harder on the button.
If you speak German you can contact the Austrian person, he has spare parts (if you don't speak German, you can use https://translate.google.com therefore sometime the translation are not good. So if you speak 2 languages, ask in each language the same translation to see if it matches...

Sorry meant there is power at the 220v outlet. Any
troubleshooting tips once the dishwasher kick plate is
removed?

Hello Arno,

I drove by not long ago, and saw a large transient M/V, but I don’t know if they have water/electricity.
They should be ok as a good friend of mine is scheduled to come to refuel on the 26.

I forgot to mention Oyster pond: I doubt they are open nor will be for a while…

Good morning Martinica,

I will still be here so hope we met!

I have had several Amel that came to visit me (and it has been a pleasure to meet all of them).

Dutch side:
Island Water World had water and electricity, to me that is the best place to go.
IGY Simpson Bay (where I sunk) little space, docks still damaged, no water, no electricity.
IGY Super Yacht dock ok, don’t know about water nor electricity.
Port de Plaisance don’t know about water nor electricity.
Anchoring, many SM/SM2K that came to visit me anchored in the Lagoon without issue.

French side:
Fort St Louis is accepting boats, but no water nor electricity.
Port Royale is dead.
I met 2 Sm owner that anchored on the french side, just after the bridge, but I would not do it. One anchored outside and was fine (except when we had the north swell).

Hope that helps, sincerely, Alexandre

Good morning Chuck,

You meant power at the “220 Volt” outlet (of the dishwasher).
On mine, I had to press for a long time the button before it starts.

I hope you don’t have to pull the Eumenia out, but if you need here is the process:
http://www.nikimat.com/dishwasher_access.html
Prior to that you need to remove the Stove:
http://www.nikimat.com/stove_oven_removal.html

Then reverse to put it back:
http://www.nikimat.com/dishwasher_access_back.html
then
http://www.nikimat.com/stove_oven_repose.html

Sincerely, Alexandre

Hi All,Dishwasher worked
now it doesn't. There is power at the 24v outlet. No
lights on, no activity. Any suggestions before I embark on
pulling out and if I do where to from there. All manuals for
product are weak.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Whisker pole

webercardio <webercardio@...>

Hello Jeffrey,
I was using a 230 sqm Spinnaker and the one Amel pole on our 54 last summer. We  bought the sail for less money on ebay (500 €) old, but I think never or only few times used.  I learnd, that most spinnakers will never be used. The sock for the spinnaker was more expensive (800€).
So I made this investment to see,  if a parasailor ( 10.000 €) whould be an option . I think under 2000€ was worth the test, but parasailor for 10.000€ is not worth.
We sail sometimes genua with pole and free gennaker on the other side. This is good
If you have enough wind and waves do not make the gennaker flapping. Thats why I am thinking of the second pole.
I Friend of mine- former owner of Amel 54 =now Garulfo bought an Aluminium tube- same Dimension like the Amel pole, bought the fittings from Amel La Rochelle and had for less money a second pole, which they used more than his new parasailor. The problem with the second pole (6,40 m)is where to store. So the forespar whiskerpole is only 4,2?m. The 54 has in both sides of the mastfoot the place the toggle for the Whiskerpole .
