Mizzen mast part unknown

Paul <pflafrance@...>

While we were installing a temporary halyard on the mizzenmast we found
a rubber bell shaped part in the inside base of the mizzenmast and are
not sure where it belongs. Perhaps on the top of the Mizzen rotary
manual furling rod that prevents the chatter inside the mizzenmast. We
have taken a picture of the part which can be viewed at the following site
http://svnomad.ca/unidentifiedpart/
Does any one know what and how this part is installed and what purpose
it provides.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] SHARKI furling motor

Roy,

There are a couple of ways.

Check the specs on the motor.... that's out.
Check if any of your batteries are wired in series or if you have any form of 24V power source on your boat.
There is a wiring diagram for the Sharki. Contact Amel and they will send it to you. They might even be able to answer your questions over the phone if you get the correct person.
I would think a repair shop would be able to tell as well but they might have to tear it apart first. I'm not sure about that. The Original motor on mine still worked but I had it overhauled (new brushes, etc. ) It was no problem to have done.

Good luck!!

Tom,

I intend to continue to use the electric furler once I resolve the motor

Is that correct or is it 24 volts? Anything you can offer is greatly

Ron,

If your going to keep the electric furling unit. You might want to check
the seals on the gear box. At least the small one on the drive shaft.
The whole unit is surprisingly easy to disassemble. The seals are cheap
and easily found. I ordered a couple spares and can easily get the
numbers for those also if you like.

Hi Ron,

I just over hauled the roller fuller this past winter on my sharki. The
motor did not have any markings left on it. But it was easily rebuilt at
a shop. I do have a spare motor on board that I looked to use briefly.
I'll try and remember to pull it out this weekend and look for a number

Does anyone know the specifications/Model number of the 12 volt electric

Does anyone know the specifications/Model number of the 12 volt electric
furling motor on 1985 Sharki. Mine got wet and I want to replace it. Or
in the alternative has anyone installed a roller furling unit?
Recommendations?

Thanks.

Hi Ron,

I just over hauled the roller fuller this past winter on my sharki. The
motor did not have any markings left on it. But it was easily rebuilt at
a shop. I do have a spare motor on board that I looked to use briefly.
I'll try and remember to pull it out this weekend and look for a number
for you.

Maramu Speader Widths

Hello, all.

Our Maramu #144 refit is at the point of installing the standing
rigging. Would anyone know the width of both the main and mizzen
spreaders? I need the measurement from the mast to the tip of the
spreader.

Thanks much,

Phil,

We use 5/16" "high test" chain which is appropriately rated.
5/16"
is
about 8mm. Regular 8mm chain would not be adequate.

Keep in mind that you will need a different gypsy for your
windlass
so
be sure to check with the windlass manufacturer before you buy
your
new chain.

Enjoy the new boat!

We had a survey done wich was overall quite positive (she's a

mooring in a marina and did some daysailing i presume.

The surveyor had 2 remarks about the rigging being 14 years

better should be changed allthough it doesn't show any signs

Second there is an 8mm galvenised anchorchain with a 20 kg cqr
anchor
wich i am planning to replase by a 30kg type bugel, spade or
rocna
anchor. The surveyor said the 8mm chain is to ligth for a 14m
boat
off
about 11 or 12 ton loaded and should be changed by a 10 mm
chain?
Does anyone have any experience or advice on this?

I thank you and glad to join the club!
