Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Replacement bulb for SM 24V red floor lighting system

Those are LED's and I believe Amel can give you the information from La
Rochelle .They are short handed because it is August (holiday). Those LED's
should last for 10'000+++ hours so be sure the power supply to the unit is
sound .

Replacement bulb for SM 24V red floor lighting system

drew_gaffney <drew.gaffney@...>

Does anyone have replacement spec's or a source for the 24V bulbs from
the SM red floor lighting system? I posted a picture of the bulb; it
is (erroneously)in the album "B&G sonic speed..."

David,
I haven't replaced the bushing, but I recently disassembled the whole
system to find a squeak and related friction in my steering that
occured mid-passage and burned up my autopilot computer. There are 3
bushings all together. I am planning to have new ones made when we
arrive in New Zealand and have the shaft machined smooth. We are in
Avatiu Harbor in Rarotonga, Cook Islands and I didn't want to chance
having parts still scattered all over town when we're ready to
leave. The disassembly is a bit tedius, but not difficult. The only
tool I needed to track down was a pair of split ring pliers. There
are two split rings that hold the assemply together, the rest is
screws, nuts and the master links in the chains. The problem we
have is friction rather than wobble. The only play we had in the
system was at the chain sprockets and I was able to take that out by
tightening the set screw. I did half of the work from the cockpit
through the compass hole and the other half from the galley.

I wonder whether anyone can help me with a Sharki question. I
notice
that play has become very apparent in the bearing behind the
steering
wheel and ahead of the steering rack. I imagine this is due to
years of
coping with the quite violent movements made by the Neco autopilot.
Is
this bearing easily accessed? is it easily replaced? I imagine it
to be
nylon but have no information, has anyone tackled this job?

Hi Howard,
I went up the main mast this weekend and measured for you: Main
mast spreaders are 52" from the mast to their tips. Mizzen spreader
widths, I viewed and approximated carefully at about 3'2". Tomorrow I
can email their heights from underneath to the mast step on foredeck

Thanks Joel.

I don't suppose you know the model number. It is a Bosch. I can make out part of the number but not all of it. It is a series wound motor with brushes and an armature, approx. 5/8" shaft diameter that has a 1/8" x 5/8" woodruff key and a threaded portion that appears to be ½" x 13 thread approx. 9/16" long.

Mizzen mast part unknown

Paul <pflafrance@...>

While we were installing a temporary halyard on the mizzenmast we found
a rubber bell shaped part in the inside base of the mizzenmast and are
not sure where it belongs. Perhaps on the top of the Mizzen rotary
manual furling rod that prevents the chatter inside the mizzenmast. We
have taken a picture of the part which can be viewed at the following site

Does any one know what and how this part is installed and what purpose
it provides.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] SHARKI furling motor

Fisher, Thomas W.

Roy,

There are a couple of ways.

Check the specs on the motor.... that's out.
Check if any of your batteries are wired in series or if you have any form of 24V power source on your boat.
There is a wiring diagram for the Sharki. Contact Amel and they will send it to you. They might even be able to answer your questions over the phone if you get the correct person.
I would think a repair shop would be able to tell as well but they might have to tear it apart first. I'm not sure about that. The Original motor on mine still worked but I had it overhauled (new brushes, etc. ) It was no problem to have done.

Good luck!!

Subject: [Amel Yacht Owners] SHARKI furling motor

Listmates,

Does anyone know the specifications/Model number of the 12 volt electric
furling motor on 1985 Sharki. Mine got wet and I want to replace it. Or
in the alternative has anyone installed a roller furling unit?
Recommendations?

Thanks.

Roy,
I guess that there is a misunderstanding, because I meant the main
sail furling.
Do I am wrong? I think you wrote about the jib electrical furling
that I also have from Amel.
ciao

Alberto

Subject: [Amel Yacht Owners] Sharki Main Sail ELECTRIC furling

Dear all,
I own the Sharki 144 made in the year 1986. When I bought it in
2006 I
asked Amel for the possibility to install an electric engine on the
main sail furling system but the answer was that Amel did not
foresee
it for the Sharki.

I have seen some Sharkis around with the electric furling system
like
Santorin and SM have.

Does any one know something about it or can give any information
about
it? Is it possible that the model I have seen adapted the Santorin
or
SM system?

Thank you in advance.
ciao

Tom,

I intend to continue to use the electric furler once I resolve the motor
issue. I didn't check the voltage on the unit. I assume it is 12 volts.
Is that correct or is it 24 volts? Anything you can offer is greatly
appreciated. Thanks.

Roy

Ron,

If your going to keep the electric furling unit. You might want to check
the seals on the gear box. At least the small one on the drive shaft.
The whole unit is surprisingly easy to disassemble. The seals are cheap
and easily found. I ordered a couple spares and can easily get the
numbers for those also if you like.

Hi Ron,

I just over hauled the roller fuller this past winter on my sharki. The
motor did not have any markings left on it. But it was easily rebuilt at
a shop. I do have a spare motor on board that I looked to use briefly.
I'll try and remember to pull it out this weekend and look for a number
for you.
