Heh gang,

Any suggestions for a new cockpit control switch for the windlass or a part number. It seems quite large for a momentary switch.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Holding Tank Retrofit on SM

Ian Townsend

Hi Steve. Here is a pic.

Both our aft and fwd head facings screw off easily. We installed a 13.5 gallon plastic tank in the fwd head. Cut out topmost two cubby shelves. Ran hose from top of tank to a pump out fitting on the deck. Ran a breather hose to outboard vent fitting. Then a hose from the bottom of the tank connected to the thruhull for discharge when offshore.

I am curious about the installation on the SM. I want to put my tanks behind the shelving facia in the head, but how do you get the facia off the shelves? Mine is fiberglassed in. I don't see how it's coming off without a sawsall. Does anyone have any information and/or pictures of how the got their holding tank in there? Did your facia just unscrew? Please provide year/Vessel # for reference.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Extra autopilot

Arthur,

What you want is the Raymarine M81137 Type 2 Rotary Drive 24V. You will also need an A/B switch, probably from Raymarine, but any switch which will take 2 pair of wires and direct the Course Computer OUT to 2 different sources will work as long as it will switch 10 amps. You will need a chain sprocket to attach to the Helm Axle. The attached photo may help you and here are some links to the drive I speak of:

When completing the installation you will need to switch polarity of the chain drive motor. you can do this at the A/B switch. If not, when the chain drive is selected, the rudder will turn in the opposite direction from what is needed.

DO NOT FORGET: All of these 24 Volt Drives have a 12 Volt clutch...if you connect the clutch to 24 volts, you will fry it.

I answered your questions, BUT, there is a better way to have drive redundancy. Simply buy a second Raymarine M81134 Type 2 Long Linear Drive 24 Volt. It is very easy to swap out the linear drive and you should know that the rotary drive is noisy.

I hope this helps you in your decision.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Owner information neede

This SM was sailed to Trimidad when no more than 2 or 3 years old. The owner was from California. He became ill and passed away. It is owned by his estate which has been incapable of making any decisions except to continue to pay storage for 13 years.

It has suffered from rat infestations, eating much of the wiring. It is covered in mold outside to the top of the Mizzen. It is also covered in mold inside. It is completely worthless.

If you are searching to buy a SM, there are other options. Don't give this SM any consideration. I do Pre-Purchase Consulting. If anyone attempted to hire me for this boat, I would refuse the job.

The C drive does not have to be removed. The rubber collar is open to the sea.

It is clamped to a bell in the hull.

It does not usually need to be replaced.

Hi All, I'm replacing the yanmar 4jh3-the eng mounts. It looks like I need to lift the eng frame 2 inches. There is a rubber boot that connects to the hull at the bottom of the C drive. If I disconnect the hose clamps at the top of that rubber boot will any oil spill out and will that allow me to lift the frame up.

Hi ,

Here are some photos that might be helpful to change the motor mounts.

The middle photo shows how I removed the coupling from the sail drive it is a very tight fit and when I installed the Amel modified coupling I took a few thousands of an inch from the inside of the coupling.

The C drive shaft and the coupling are the exact same diameter.

The other photos show the bolts that are used to reconnect the coupling.
