Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Yahoo Group Amel Register
Thanks Brent, that is a truly impressive list.
I can only view it online in google docs. I would suggest we use your list and add extra tabs for the different models. I'm not familiar with Google docs, and Excel sheet on my desktop is easiest for me. Cheers Alan Elyse SM437

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Toe pulley (headsail)
Bernard Ancelle in France makes a direct replacement for the Super Maramu genoa toe pulley in PETP which is very chemically resistant (particularly to sea water), does not absorb water, resists UV and has good
mechanical properties.
The combination of plastics device and stainless screws would not be subjected to corrosion as the original alloy pulley. And they are only Eu60 each plus shipping. I have posted Bernard's instruction manual in the files section. Cheers Alan Elyse SM437

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Yahoo Group Amel Register
Hi Alan. I really hope that I didn’t upset you. It wasn’t my intention to take over this list or supplant the work you have done, as I already know how much considerable effort it took to do that. My point was that I had spent a lot of time worrying about how much of this to release and by publishing it in an easily extracted format, unscrupulous people could use it for mailing lists and the like. It really doesn’t matter to me whether we use your list or mine or someone else’s but the issues remain. I have published a scrubbed version of my list that somewhat mirrors yours. You have information on non Super Maramu boats that I do not have in my list as when I created mine, it was for my personal use only. I also did not track the owner’s email ID’s as I had no use for that and I already have all of the Amel owner’s I have met in my contact book. I offer up my work to the group (and you personally if you would like to take over the management of it). I offered my time on it as I was happy to give something back to this excellent group of dedicated owners who have shared so much in my education on these fine boats. Here is the web link to the summary view of my spreadsheet. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vQ8Kp7el76_Eto9wuH5nKW2h9oGCJbLAkuz_FPzl_a8SSIYUYCH6fsrtDAopkZnYhlZpjnzhQ8KK9gK/pubhtml?gid=614862439&single=true

Rink De Haan
Sure Leo
Please find photos as attachments.
They are expensive for sure but will last longer than the originals.
Direct bonding on stainless steel not advisable but gasket and anti corrosive grease will do.
Of course everyone is free to choose and have his own preferred solution.
Regards
Rink

Rink De Haan
Dear all,
The toe pulley is available from Amel again.
They now make them of aluminium and they cost €213 a piece (actually in two parts).
I received 2 of them a couple of weeks ago.
Best regards,
Rink

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Micron 66 Caribbean experience
Just a caution. I had to paint in the US after using Islands 44 in the Caribbean. On Seahawk's advice, I applied SeaHawk Biocop with a primer coat over Islands 44 (which was fantastic). It was a disaster. Copper-based paint will not adhere properly to a tin- based paint, regardless of primer. I had to strip everything off and start anew. Excellent advice from Bill there will always be repair’s but a well used boat is generally in better condition than a long ‘rested ‘ one

Since this disaster of a boat has a listing on Yachtworld, we'll probably keep being asked about it.
I have already had two people ask me about it outside the forum, and gave them basically the same answer Bill R did, although I might have been a touch less colorful in my language. Just say "NO" to trashed boats. If you are in the market for a boat, please consider the following. Like all "rules" there are always exceptions, but I firmly believe there is more truth to this than not... I used to give a very popular seminar on "how to buy a boat." Here is one short except from it on the topic of "cheap" boats.... Bill's Fourth Rule of Boat Buying Happiness: Spend more and get a bargain. You likely would not believe this if you heard it from a yacht broker trying to sell you a boat. If you hear it from me, hopefully you accept it as containing more than a grain of truth. It is a little understood, and rarely articulated, fact that the REAL bargains in the boat world are closer to the top of the market than the bottom. Why? Boat buying in the internet age is very close to a world-wide market. Boats in poor condition drive down the price of those in excellent shape. Boat repairs are very expensive and time consuming, And they are famously difficult to forecast--even for experts. The cost of repairs are NEVER properly deducted from the price of the derelict or neglected boat. In the same way, all the work, time, love, care, and MONEY that were put into the top-shelf, super Bristol, best of her type, boat are never recovered in the final sale. Spend $50,000 on a 50 foot boat, you will probably have bought yourself a money pit nightmare that will haunt you for years. Spend the same money on a 35 foot boat, and you might just have a new sweetheart. Bill Kinney SM160, Harmonie Fort Lauderdale, Fl, USA Days away from sailing away... We hope!

I can't believe this twice totaled and poorly repaired ex-Amel keeps popping up!
