Keep both units and mount a switch near the rotary/chain drive drive
unit as Amel does. Run the one in the galley(the rotary)at night so
the noise will not be under your bed .Run the linear drive that will
be under the aft cabin berth during the day when the noise will not
disturb you. Running each drive unit for a twelve hour on/off duty
cycle will greatly increase their lifespan as they wonít get very
ďhotĒ. Heat is the big problem with autopilot drives that are on for
days and days.

Be sure to mount the end not attached to the rudder Quadrant on some
medium soft rubber padding to make it much more quiet. Through bolt it
as normal, just donít fully tighten the fasteners and use Nyloc nuts
or double nut with Loc-Tite.

We plan to cross the atlantic next year. On our SM 227 we still run the
Autohelm ST 7000. I am thinking of buying a spare linear drive unit in
case of a problem during the passage. Since we are just the 2 of us on
the boat (my wife and myself)that might be worth to do.
One option I am thinking of, is to install a new lienar drive unit and
keep the old as spare part. Did anybody do this already and was it
difficult to install? According to Raymarine, the new unit should
perfectly work with the old Autohelm parts, e.g. the comptuer, compass
etc.?

Our surveyor used a moisture meter and found that water had migrated
throughout the coachroof because of improperly installed and sealed
fittings. As a consequence we had to completely cut out the affected
areas and replace and glass-in new core material before we could get
the surveyor to sign off.

We have been advised to overdrill the installation holes, seal with
some form of epoxy and to then drill the proper sized hole to prevent
future water migration through the balsa core.

Good luck with your repairs.

HI,

I had / adn repaired major leakage problems in the deck area of my Amel Kirk build in 1973 due to poor maintenance of the previous owner. The Balsa core had turned into a wet sponge.

If you want to check use a humifity meter as used for osmosis prevention. Check areas where deck gear has been installed later and probably by non-experts.

Dessalator 160 L/hr watermaker low-pressure pump spec's

We're having trouble with our 160 l/h Dessalator watermaker. Before we
bought our boat, the low-pressure feed pump was replaced with a
Tellarini ENM-20, which does not produce sufficient flow or pressure
(only 32L/min at 1m height.) No pressure shows when the low pressure
pump activates the first couple minutes of operation and the
high-pressure pump transiently drains the 25 micron filter canister
when it starts.
The NZ company which provided that pump has agreed to provide a larger
pump and credit me for the smaller one they previously installed. The
price difference between their replacement and Dessalator is $600+, so
it would be nice if the replacement would work.
Does anyone know desired pressure, flow, and current draw for the low
pressure pump for the 160 L/hr from Dessalator.
The great pictures from Amelliahona appear to show 25A and 5A breakers
respectively for the high and low pressure pumps? Is there a 5A limit
on the low-pressure pump 240V supply?
