Re: Rudder Stuffing Box

Hi Thomas, As an opinion, I would not relaunch before getting a solution. So it works on launch... how about in 2 years?? Good luck

To Bill and his exalted team of tech cronies, fantastic work. Just got a few minutes today to play around with the new AYOG and it is a clear improvement in every way.
Thanks for your efforts. They are appreciated by one and all more than you will ever know. Thanks again.

Re: Rudder Stuffing Box
Jean-Pierre Germain <jp.germain45@...>
Hello Thomas, Did you remove all the old stuffing material? There should be 3 rings with the ends butting 120 degrees apart. I also use plenty of waterproof silicone grease when installing the packing nut. Good luck, Jean-Pierre Germain, SY Eleuthera, SM 007, Opua, NZ

Rudder Stuffing Box
Thomas Kleman
Was down to my last quarter turn on the plastic nut so decided to repack the stuffing box while on the hard. Quadrant was seized and needed 6 hours and a custom made puller tool to get it off. Then pulled out the stuffing and repacked it. Tapped it down and all seemed good...except nut now encounters stuffing too high in box to grab......stuffing is mashed down so I guess top part of box is stripped. Its not the nut (I have three and tried all of them). For now I have two rings of stuffing in and ironically Im back to one quarter turn left on the nut......and a day of my life gone. Ideas ?

Re: New furlers on an Amel 54
JEFFREY KRAUS
I don't get the confusion on the new Bamar furler electronic connection. I just did the change to the new EJF1. The wiring scheme on the (if I remember correctly) 7 pin plug was 2 thermal leads to 2 pins, 3 leads to the furler to control the in/out to 2 pins, with 1 of those pins having 2 wires attached to 1 pin, and the 2 switch leads to 2 other pins. There was 1 unused pin. Plug it in (after the hot +/-)in and +/-out to the furler) are connected, and you're done. This wiring was confirmed by Paul from Bamar. I'm not on the boat, but will be Monday. I can tell you which pin #s to connect the wires to if I looked at the wiring scheme in the manual. It works just fine. No extra switches or anything. How to Edit a Post
Mark McGovern
One of the nice new features that we got from moving from Yahoo Groups to Groups.io is the ability to edit your posts AFTER they have been posted. We've had a few questions from Group members on how to do that so I decided to make this post showing you how to edit your posts. NOTE: You can even edit posts that you made years earlier on the Yahoo Group!
1. Go to the post you want to edit
2. Click the "More" Option circled in RED in the picture below:
3. Click on the "EDIT MESSAGE" option shown below circled in RED.
4. Wait for the Edit Message window to pop open and edit the message:
5. To save your changes click one of the two (2) buttons circled in RED below. The one on the far left called "Save and Send to Group" will save the changes AND will send an email message to the group about the edit. The one to the right of that called "Save without Sending" just saves the changes but does NOT send an email to the group about the edit.
I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Re: New furlers on an Amel 54
Mark & Debbie Mueller
An alternative connection scheme: I ran into this problem when changing over to the new Bamar about 7 months ago. After several conversations with Paul and him communicating with Bamar’s engineers an alternative connection plan was utilized.
Assuming that majority of the power is utilized when furling and therefore heat generated I connected the thermal cut-off switch in series with the “Furl” switch. If the motor overheats when furling the thermal overload opens and protects the motor. All the connections were made in the new control box mounted in the forepeak with no additional interface necessary.

Hi Alex,
Well, planning 10 months in the the future is almost impossible in the Caribbean but nothing spectacular happens (like a Hurricane or so) I will be happy to help. It will be interesting to see the differences between our 54’s. What build number do you have? Arno Luijten SV Luna, A54-121

Apologies
When we were testing Groups.io, I wanted to test the Groups.io Facebook integration because I had hoped to integrate Dimitris Krasopoulos' excellent Amel Owners Group Facebook Group. Dimitris was all for it, and Mark McGovern, Gary Wells, Mark Erdos, and Danny Simms were in agreement.
So, I tested it with the Facebook Page that I controlled...it worked fine during the test. Today I made some changes to that Facebook Page and each change posted in our new Amel Yacht Owners Group. I am embarrassed and sorry for the mistake. I can't undo it, but I have deleted those automatic postings, and changed the settings so that it will not happen again. The rest of the story is, even though the test worked great from a facebook Page, it does not work from a Facebook Group...and Dimitris has a group located at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/amelyachtowners/ -- Best,
Bill Rouse

amelforme
For reasons once explained to me but long ago forgotten, not all Amel boats of any model are sequential by hull number. Many are while some are not.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I have seen boats of a "newer/younger"hull number not have the same upgrades/improvements as sisters with a "lower/older" hull number. The only lesson here is to assume nothing but always verify . Being built supposedly after a change is noted on a sistership is no guarantee that you will have it too. JOEL F. POTTER CRUISING YACHT SPECIALIST LLC THE EXPERIENCED AMEL GUY Office 954-462-5869

Thanks Mike, You would have to remove the pulley block at the fwd end of the track also. What is it that holds that on ? Is it the eye bolt in the pulley axle ? Thanks for your advice, Cheers Alan Elyse SM437
