I purchase most of my supplies from Aircraft Spruce https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/siliconecowlseals.php This is what I used: The fiberglass insert is really fiberglass woven material laminated into the silicone for added durability. I worried a little bit about this as water can wick into the cut edge but so far not a problem. It also comes without the fiberglass and it would probably be ok as well. I will be aboard in about 5 days and I will see if I can track down my dimensioned drawing of the wedge I had cut from teak. Silicone 1/8 " x 3 " x width of the door seal. PN 05-00771-3 $5.35/ft. Re: Diesel Class
Furthermore. Late July not good.

Interested in what I would consider “minor” overhaul or “deep” service. Not down to opening the block and pulling pistons, but all the peripheral stuff, 4000-5000 hr. Service type stuff, to get her running in top form.

Hey Kent. Sure sounds appealing, and NJ is close. I would prefer class on Volvo TMD22. Thanks for giving this another shot.

Diesel Class
Hi all,
I tried a couple of years ago to put together a diesel maintenance and repair class for Amel owners with Mac Boring in New Jersey. I couldn’t make it work then, but I am going to try again. They make an effort to have the engines available that we own, when ever possible. In years past they had 4-6 participants on each engine who took it apart and put it back together again. They are now offering 2-3 day classes on maintenance and simple repairs, but are willing to work with us and develop a more comprehensive class if that’s what we want.
id like to do it in late July, August or September if possible. Anyone interested in a comprehensive (4 to 7 day) class, please contact me at karkauai@.... I’ll need your engine make and model, a description of what you’d like to get out of the class, and any dates which will NOT work for you. I will compile the results and see what they can put together for us. Please let me know as soon as possible so I can get to work on this. thanks Kent Kristy SM 243

Hi Giovanni, I do not have a photo because it is not visible. It is sealed with a black silicone sealant at the base of the C drive at the keel. It looks like a black silicone circle about 25-30 mm in diameter. The silicone should be flat. You can dive down and see it with a light it is quite visible. Check that the prop is clean and also take note - when was the last time you greased it? You can lubricate the prop without a haul out if you think it through. We had a similar situation and after some underwater greasing the problem disappeared.

Craig, I usually look up the torque specifications for the bolt if I want it really tight. Most times just tight to my touch with a wrench or socket. I recall looking up the torque for the C drive bolt but I don’t recall it . Fair Winds Eric Kimberlite Amel Super Maramu #376

Eric - is there a spec for the lbf (or N-m) to torque it to?

I just snug it with a socket wrench between "pretty tight and really tight" - seems fine. My propeller, on the other hand, does specify 60 lbf for the shaft nut. Craig

Re: propeller/engine vibration

If you notice that the mastic is domed and not flat where the c drive is fastened to the Keel then you definitely have to remove the mastic clean up the area and clean the bolt. Make sure to apply grease and use a torque wrench if you have one to torque the bolt down tight. If you are in the water you can inspect the mastic and if it is domed you have a problem., If it is flat that is not your problem. Fair Winds Eric Kimberlite Amel Super Maramu #376

There should be a stud/nut and possibly a bushing under that mastic on the bottom of the C-DRIVE. This stabilizes the C-DRIVE from any twisting due to thrust. Inspect it by removing the mastic. Best,

Have you seen the Lugun table bracket. We have one on our Mango. They are brilliant, and can be easily removed or just swivelled out of the way.
