Nick, I think what Olivier is telling you is that there are 2 "Outside" Neoprene foam seals (one on top of the other) that seal the tube opening when the BT is up. The one you see inside the watertight BT compartment is the "Inside" Neoprene foam seal...it seals the tube opening when the BT is down.

Hi Nick. I assume it’s the same on the 54 as on the SM. While you’re at it, change the lip seal where the shaft goes through the hull, change the oil in the shaft, and change the lip seal on the prop shaft. I also change the nylon bolts the the prop hub. I suppose it is normal for a small amount of water to leak through, if the boat is slamming to windward. In any case next time I haul out I will glue in new seals. Hello Nick, there are two foam seals located around the BT drive tube, on top of the gear-box/props GRP casing, looking like the one you see inside, around the drive tube. When the BT is in the UP position, these seals are supposed to be compressed against the top of the hull box (where the BT is stored). If your seals are aged/damaged, they are not soft anymore and cannot play their part. They also could be in good condition but the UP position of the BT is too low (because the stop switches -mechanic or magnetic- have moved). But as you mentioned you could put the safety pin in, I don't think the switches are wrong (stopping the lifting too early). In order to replace the neopren foam seals, you need to have the vessel out of the water. You should wait until next scheduled haul-out for antifouling, as the amount of water is probably not much and is draining through a hose to the engine room bilge. A good check is to turn off the draining hose valve (under saloon floorboard) and see how much water you get in one hour, as the water will collect at the bottom of the front deck locker. Have a nice sailing.

Everybody, Amel said that they do not have these stickers any more. I hired a local 'sticker guy' through ANT Yat services here in Bodrum and he came out with a color palette, took a picture I sent him showing the font and came back and installed an absolute spot-on match. Cost me $60.

Bowthruster Water Ingress
Whilst sailing I have noticed that a small amount of water leaks in from the bow-thruster. It harmlessly drains to the main bilge. Even going up wind in rough conditions it is probably only a litre or two an hour. Is this normal? I have not shut myself in there whilst hammering to windward to see!!!! But conclude that it can only be from the BT.
I have never used a retractable thruster before but imagine there are some seals. The Amel owners manual does not cover this nor the SidePower folder. Can anyone advise me so that when I next haul out I can replace them. Nick Amelia (AML54-019)

I noted that you wrote that you used a 4 inch PVC pipe for your hawse pipe. I measure the OD (outside diameter) of the existing hawse pipe on my boat as 76.45 mm or 3 inches. Can you comment on your findings and if you used an oversized pipe? Someone on this forum suggested using FRP tubing from McMaster Carr but the largest size I can find there is an OD of 3 inches with and ID of 2.5 inches. Hi I have 54# 101 and just replaced my pump. It was inconsistently running and not turning off then working properly for a while then screwing up again. Bill recommend a replacement easy peasy and now no worries (the best) pump a little expensive but......

Thanks, I have it working now with the pump and noticed the overflow problem immediately. I was lucky and didn’t get any smells at all when I changed over, maybe because the toilet has never been used with saltwater. The previous owner made no modifications in this area.
