I am about 2 years from getting a SM and am convinced it is the best
yacht out there. I would love to come and visit someone that might be coming to San Francisco. In return I will give you a great tour of the city and surrounding area. Have a great holiday, everyone. Steve

Hi Ruth,
I have SM 299. If the material is the same, Mon Selo at Amel says wash it in the washing machine at no more than 30C. I have done this successfully. Seasons Greetings Ian Shepherd "Crusader"

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Fw: SM showers
Ian Shepherd <g4ljf@...>
Hello Peter,
I have lived aboard my SM2000 for 27 months continuously and find no problem with the showers. The later boats have a shower curtain that wraps around over the door, and if you stand with your back to the basin so that the spray is away from the wall, there is little to worry about. I just polish the door every month or so, and occasionally wipe the wall fabric over with a kitchen degreasing cleaner. I also shower at least twice a day. If I have any criticism of the shower tray, it is the fact that the washbasin drain exits into the tray. When the yacht is hard pressed on the starboard tack and you pull the plug out of the basin, take your socks off first as the water tends to run towards the toilet bowl and up through the grating and not down the drain hole due to the angle of heel. Maybe if the basin drain pipe tee'd into the waste pipe below the centre floor, the problem would be eradicated, or lessened. Amel advise a max heel angle of 15 degrees for best performance, which would probably avoid the problem, but as we all know, this is not always possible to adhere to, especially when single handed and having a wash! As an ex airline pilot who often frequented the RHKYC, I wonder where you will be berthed? Best Wishes Ian Shepherd SM #299 (and another soon) "Crusader"

cleaning salon upholstery
John Martin <jjmartin24@...>
Hello all
We have just become the proud new owners of SM hull no 248, 1999, now named "Moon Dog", our homeport being Hampton, Virginia. Can anyone give me advice on washing the salon upholstery covers ? I have machine washed the simple cushion covers and curtains for the bow and stern cabins with very good results, but am not sure how to go about washing the salon cushion covers that have a thin layer of foam stitched to their backs. Has anyone washed these in a large capacity commercial washing machine ? Or is having them steam cleaned, as you would do for upholstered furniture, the better way to go ? Thanks and Happy Holidays to all ! Ruth (and John) Martin

Re: plug for windlass
kimberlite1212 <no_reply@...>
hi Joel,
How was the paris show?? I was thinking of coating the hawspipe and chain with vaseline. then filling the cavity with silicone sealant. when this dries i would lower the anchor to remove the plug. all i then have to do is slit the silicone plug and remove it. i would then have a custom form fitted plug for offshore. what do you think of that idea? happy and healthiest holiday wishes to you and Vela. eric & Judy --- In amelyachtowners@yahoogroups.com, "Joel F. Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] plug for windlass
Joel F. Potter <jfpottercys@...>
Hi Eric,
I've seen many different attempts at this with varying success. The ones I know to work: 1. A wad of duct tape (racer tape, boat tape, airplane tape, silver tape...a thousand names for the same stuff) around the chain where it passes through the hause hole. 90% effective and a mess to remove. 2. Sealing clay (the kind you find at hardware stores for sealing cracks and holes for pipes and wires) around the hause hole. A bit of a mess t remove but 95% effective. 3. Neoprene sheet (wet suit material) wrapped around the chain, taped with duct tape at both ends, pulled into the hause from the chain locker. 90% effective, easy to remove. 4. Spray type insulating foam from the hardware store, used to fill voids, insulate around pipe and wire entry/exit holes. It is 95% effective and disintegrates when the chain is used. Great stuff. 5. If you have friends who are dentists, beg, borrow or steal the molding putty they use to take full upper or lower impressions. It is 100% effective and completely disappears when the chain is used. Hope this helps, Joel

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] plug for windlass
Erick MEJEAN <maramu@...>
Hi Eric
If you problem is to prevent the sea water to come in I believe that the small piece of rubber attached to the windlass is more than enough as the amount of water that may come inside is rather little. My personal view is that any other system a bit more sophisticated will not last long as sooner or later you will forget to remove it one day. The good thing with the rubber plate, is that even though you forget to remove it, it will not be damaged, at most torn a bit.
