our super Maramu bowsprit.

I had our bowsprit fabricated in St Marten years ago.  The pole is removable from the attachment fixture with one allen bolt. It was not expensive.

It takes up no room on deck and works well with out 1400 sq foot gennaker. Our gennaker is made out of heavier material. 1,5 oz and can be flown in 25+ knots true down wind.

The block is a spring loaded harken. Very simple and easy to install and manage.

I think by substituting the Selden aluminium tube with a SS one, strength in all direction will be improved.
How long does it protrude from the bow fittings? I discussed this with Selden and they recommend a water stay.
It involve  lot of money the whole thing, Furler, halyards, down haul, sheets, sail and bowsprit, I guess close to 10 000 Euoro, was it worth it? would you do it again?

Do note that Gross and Net Tons have nothing to do with what your boat weighs.  They are volume measures originally used for tax to be paid on the volume of cargo. It has nothing to do with what your boat weighs on the travel-lift and you don't need to "fudge" the USCG formula to get what you think the boat weighs - that's wrong.  Here is an excerpt from the USCG's publication:
"2. GROSS / NET TONNAGE VS. DISPLACEMENT TONNAGE This Guide addresses gross and net tonnage, which relate to vessel volume and appear on a documented vessel's Certificate of Documentation (COD). Gross and net tonnage is widely used as the basis for vessel regulation and assessment of taxes and fees. Gross and net tonnage is not to be confused with displacement or weight tonnage, often expressed in "pounds", "tons" or "long tons".

Well done for offering to replicate the seals for others.  I would love 2 sets if possible.

I would suggest using transferwise, or its equivalent, for payments - easy for international transfers and very clear regarding the amount the beneficiary receives.  Paypal and other payment providers discount the fees from the payment so the sender doesn't see the exact amount the beneficiary receives.  If you lose 5% on all these seals it might annoy you!

Hi Jose,

that's good you have the anti twist.. Ocean Pearl's seals were leaking badly when we bought her but we replaced the seals when we did the anti foul before we first set off and have never had any trouble since. Bi annual foam seal replacement is all we have ever done and occasionally we have had to do a lip seal between the bi annuals. However we are not heavy users of the thruster.

Go to the USCG Vessel Documentation pages and they have a simplified measurement methodology you can easily follow to calculate this yourself.  Also see earlier postings on the subject - the numbers for SM's were all over the place.

"Nicky" from Malta is what you meant to say. I always recommend Nicky Samut in Malta for any Med rigging issues. I suspect that Nicky has a lot of air miles. During the winter season he will be in Sicily at least 2 weeks working on rigging. He has also upgraded Bamar furlers. And, Nicky is a Yacht School Preferred Vendor, the only rigger in Europe selected as a rigging Preferred Vendor.

We are replacing all 6 shrouds at the main because ACMO had a crack in one of the original long shrouds that we found in our rig inspection last year.

They did extend a 10% discount because of this so the total shipped to Corfu was 5000 euros.

Off course you only need to upgrade the mid and lower shrouds so your pricing will be less. I did receive a complete quote for all rigging that I will forward to you shortly.

I, like you, try to do everything I can myself, which is about 90%. It’s better to make a mistake and learn while help is available. However, the cruising season in the Med is short so I do elect to use known outside people if necessary so we get to enjoy the season.

The rigging is definitely one of them, at this point, for us. So I’m flying Ricky from Malta to Corfu for 2 days to take care of the shrouds and some lighting and wind cane issues.

Enjoy Tahiti. We chartered there in 2008 and had a great time.

Danny, I am not sure if my system is original or retrofit.  It does seem to have an anti-twist vertical tube mounted beside the thruster.  All I know is that when I bought Ipanema (Nike before) in Florida, (about the same time you bought Ocean Perl) The previous owner did not mention it.  However, we got a lot of water in while we sailed the boat from Florida to Georgia, even though the owner had just changed the seals on her.
