Re: Amel is going lithium
Hi Scott,

My Desalateur produces 160l per hour easily. Actually one should adjust the pressure to that effect as the water temperature and salinity effect output. So in the West Indies and Greece in summer I have to keep the pressure just kissing green on the HP, if I set it at midway on the gauge it produces 180 litres. I think in colder water more pressure is required and in less saline water less pressure. Coming back to Lithium. So what is your routine for charging the batteries? Assume bright sunshine. Let’s assume: You want hot water every day You need to make 100 litres of water per day You cook etc and run all fridges And do all the phone charging and laptop charging maybe watch TV for an hour etc etc.... Maybe do a load of laundry. Just living at anchor Nick Amelia (54-019) Preveza Greece

WD-40 is good for starting a diesel but for lubrication it is poor as it absorbs water. Inox does the same job and repels water. To loosen up rusted in place things PB Blaster is far superior. Here is a quote from their website. Yes- the drogue was attached as per the article. That time unfortunately was not the first time were in near hurricane/ hurricane force winds and had the JSD out. We had it out for over 30 hours. The drogue’s bridle when attached to the cleats falls between the mizzen backstays. If I were to run the bridle outside of the backstays I was worried that I would lose the SSB antenna. How did you have the drogue attached when you had that experience? I'm trying to envision how the mizzen shrouds would be involved.

Re: Cabin sole revarnishing
If you are refinishing down below, where there isn’t constant exposure to direct sunlight, polyurethane is a much better choice for cabin soles. It is much harder, more abrasion resistant. In any case, to get a good finish, the old stuff needs to come off. A tough job, but made easier with a heat gun and metal scraper. Then a fine (220 grit) sand to flatten and smooth. Use a sanding block, or your fingers will cause an uneven finish. Clean with alcohol, then apply the finish.

Update Timezero 4.0 for Furuno Navnet 3Duser
Don't Update your Timezero Maxsea to 4.0 if you use Furuno Navnet 3D. Otherwise you will loose the Synchronisation and can not Export your routes from Maxsea Timezero to Furuno Navnet 3D.
Don't ask me why I know - 1/2 Day trying everything and help by nephew and online support to downgrade (3.3) again. Viele Grüße Wolfgang Weber SY Elise Amel 54 #162

Yes, I did see errors in the Delos video. Thank you for pointing out this video otherwise I would not have known about it and would have missed an opportunity to view any part of the video.

We just overnighted at Hancocks. Indeed, the Cohansie is generally very deep. Charts do not indicate depths. While pretty close to the center of the river, we did run aground, needed to kedge off. But again, most areas are 15 to 30 feet. Depending on timing, mosquitoes and/or green heads can be a real nuisance. On the New Jersey Atlantic coast, I would be reluctant to go into Manasquan. Not really anything between Atlantic City and Sandy Hook. However, Sandy Hook has always been a surprisingly beautiful anchorage. Three weeks ago we saw a breaching humpback right in Raritan Bay. Only about ten miles from NYC. Tom Peacock SM 240 Aletes Chesapeake Bay, US

Hi Jacob, Yes I have been in a hurricane on the drogue. Please see above. When I had kimberlite built I had the stern cleats super reinforced. In an existing installation I would change out the cleats for heavy forged stainless ones and add a big piece of backing. Fair Winds Eric Kimberlite Amel Super Maramu #376

From day one, I have been against sea anchors. Being that they are launched from the bow , you are basically going backwards or standing still. I was always concerned about the forces on the rudder vs going down wind on a drogue. Most of them are also a pain to retrieve. Fair Winds Eric Kimberlite Amel Super Maramu #376

Re: Deleware Bay --> Cape May anchorages
.... and continuing up the New Jersey shore you've got Absecon Inlet (Atlantic City) which is excellent and you can anchor off the Coast Guard station or take a marina and try your luck in the casinos. After that Manasquan is feasible, but you'd be better off going up to Sandy Hook.

Re: Storm tactics

Oh, I see that you addressed that further down.
Has anyone here added the additional chainplates? The Maramu has what looks to be a very sturdy and unused pair of chainplates, which I understand is used to hoist each hull into a test tank before launching. (Not sure if the Super Maramu has that as well) I was thinking that would be a good attachment point, but it leaves the question of how to run the legs of the bridle back to the transom and overboard without chafing. I'd appreciate any thoughts... Thanks! Jacob Lark, Maramu #42 Mistake Island, Maine

Re: Deleware Bay --> Cape May anchorages
Hi Wolfgang,
There's a wonderful "secret" anchorage on that route. It's the Cohansey River part way down Delaware Bay and you can anchor around any bend as you go up the river. This is an old commercial freighter port and has lots of depth going in and all the way up the river. Keep entry light "1C" close to port going in and then stay far left for 6 to 7 Meters (20-25 feet) of water. If you go up a few bends there's a fun restaurant at Hancock Marine where you can tie off at their dock. Approach depth is 3-4 meters. In calm winds there are mosquitoes the farther up the river you go. At Cape May you can easily carry your draft into the inlet and anchor either to the left towards the Coast Guard Station or to the right before the bridge or past it. Watch for 180° tide change. Check Active Captain for more info on these anchorages. Cheers, Craig - SN68 Sangaris - Tropic Isle Harbor FL

Re: Amel is going lithium
Scott SV Tengah
Mark,
If you look at Dessalator specs you'll see that it does operate much more efficiently at 24v vs 220v. https://www.dessalator.fr/en/products/price-list/ For my Duo100, operating at 220v uses nearly 60% more wattage than operating at 24v. Moreover, inverters aren't 100% efficient so I try to go 24v whenever possible. BTW does your 160l/h actually produce 160l/h? The gauge on mine will show 100+ but measuring via the floating dipstick shows the tank is only getting 80l -- Scott 2007 A54 #69 SV Tengah http://www.svtengah.com
