We’ve had the Jackline policy through IMIS, recently bought out by Gowrie group. I’ve dealt with the same contact there since before Gowrie took over. We haven’t had a claim, and haven’t asked about coverage in the Med, but they have been easy to deal with in every regard. Iris now insures her 100 year old wooden catboat with them as well.

I had a bit of corrosion at the mast base but not bad. I replaced the pads from Maud, expensive little suckers, $280 for the pair. I don’t think I really needed to do that as there is not really anyway for the water to get between
the mast base and the pad. Those drain holes you see are the top side of a plate welded into the base of the mast so that there is no way for water to go anywhere else but out those holes..

We went through this exercise a few months ago when we moved away from Pantaenius USA. We are BVI flagged and settled with Y-Yacht. I was very impressed with Y-Yacht. I was also impressed with a USA company called Novamar. They are an A-Rated company and have a very good reputation with full time cruisers in the Pacific and Caribbean. I do not know about their coverage for Europe but it's worth asking. We used a USA Broker who underwrites a lot of their policies: Chris Boome Insurance Agency LIC# 0A99058 751 Laurel Street #216 San Carlos, CA 94070 O: 650-517-3160 C: 650-464-0728 WWW.CHRISBOOME.COM E-mail: chris@chrisboome.com Another company who was also recommended has a bit of a branding problem as they have three names: IMIS - Jackline - Growrie. I understand the company has recently merged and may not be the same company as others who are recommending it think it is. I found them extremely rude and their demands from us prior to a quote were very unrealistic. I did not get a quote and walked away. But, other sailors swear they are great. Perhaps it was the person I was dealing with, who knows. But it might be worth it for you to follow up with them. Hopefully your experience will be better: https://www.gowrie.com/Marine-Insurance/IMIS.aspx Hope this helps a bit. Re: Climma Compact 9 EH MK3 Air Conditioning
Yes the control circuit board in the separate control box. However, this is not the problem. All things on the unit work until the compressor power cable is connected. Then pop goes the GF breaker. I really am beginning to believe the compressor is kaput.
I haven’t had much luck with Coastal Climate Control in the past. I think you know of my experiences there. The last time I talked to them regarding this very same unit, they tried to tell me to re-engineer the AC cooling system for the entire boat and that Amel was wrong with the installation design. I think I would rather try to fix it locally or replace it than deal with them again. But, thanks anyway for the idea.
With best regards,
Mark

If you bought it from Coastal Climate Control, Rob will help you troubleshoot it via phone or email. And when you say "remote circuit board" I assume that you are talking about the control circuit board. It seems to me that your problem could also possibly be with it. I did have a similar problem...when I changed the large 40mf Capacitor, the problem went away. Doesn't make sense, but it happened.

Re: Climma Compact 9 EH MK3 Air Conditioning
Hi Bill,
This is the new Climma unit. It is about 4 years old. I replaced a non-Climma unit with this to get back to the original band of parts.
The wire harness has a Blue and White wire that connects to the remote circuit board.. This powers the compressor. When I disconnect this, the unit will power but obviously the compressor doesn’t run.
The start capacitor checks out. I think it would only pop the GF breaker when the compressor tries to start if this were bad. But it pops immediately when power is applied to the unit. The run capacitor checks out. I completely disconnected it and still got a GF trip. The connections are all very clean and no corrosion.
I think the only thing left is a fault or short inside the compressor.
With best regards,
Mark

Mark,
Wasn't that the unit you replaced with non-Climma?
None of this will likely help because it is likely the compressor has an internal short.
If it is not Climma, I am not sure how the electrical connection to the compressor is made, but that connection should be checked closely. What about start and run capacitors? Are they in tolerance and are the connections free of any corrosion?

Re: Maintenance costs for Amel yachts
A good thing that speaks for Amel: I met a couple in Messolonghi Greece with an Amel 54 or 55 . We got into the conversation and he told me that his wife and he will be on your second circumnavigation of the world. I asked why sail the world twice and both paint with the Amel ? He replied: nine the first circumnavigation of the world we made with a Lufe 45 . But in every port in every bay where we were was already an Amel and every owner was very satisfied with his Amel . That's why we bought one and sailed around the world a second time with an Amel And we are very satisfied ! There is nothing more to say ! Greetings SM Balu Von meinem iPhone gesendet

Re: Maintenance costs for Amel yachts
Hello!
Well, I just wanted to throw my hat in the ring as well. I did a lot of research before landing in a Super Maramu. Several years' worth really,a a lot of it was just dreaming and window shopping. The Amel won hands-down for me in the most important arena when it can to crossing oceans.with my wife and that was its design with safety in mind. There were so many places where I found the SM in front of other boats when it came to staying safe that I found myself comparing most other boats I looked at back to the Amel. So, it dawned on me I should quit comparing :) One thing I totally understand about getting on a very active forum like this is how you could come away thinking that the boats have numerous inherent problems. Well, I can confidently say that if you go to an Island Packet, Hallbeg-Rassey or Tayana user's group you'll see the same thing only at a different level. While the Amel group keeps talking about basically the same "issues" over and over again (especially for the hebenefit of new owners) these items pretty much hold along the line of 'minor' items. Bow thruster leaks (routine maintenance fixes that), C-Drive oil and seals, (routine maintenance), outhaul, furling, watermaker and other electrical motors and gearboxes all require upkeep and maintenance. What you don't read about are keel-stepped masts that won't quit leaking into the salon, black tanks that develop holes because they get eaten through, rigging failures under stress, keel failures, hull-to-deck joint leaks, engines that water-lock in following seas, .. and I guess I'll quit there. There are many boats that require a lot of work to get them seaworthy, and then that seaworthiness diminishes rapidly with miles. I think dollar-to-mile sailed the Amel is a winner. There are so many points where Amel has seen other designs not work so well and improved on them. Water-tight compartments, stainless rail lifelines, hard dodgers you can walk on, sea-chest water inlet, monocoque hull/deck construction, retracting bow thruster, cockpit controlled 1-peraon sail operations and .. I guess you probably know most of that already, but it's simply not like most other production boats. I think I actually take a bit of joy knowing that if something is going to surprisingly quit working, it is from a rather finite list of mostly non-critical circumstances. Once you get to the point of knowing 'hmm, that pump doesn't sound quite right .. time to change the filter" you'll come to see that it's not that hard to keep the boat ready to go fairly easily. Good luck with your research! Gary W. SM 209, Adagio Halifax NS
