When we were at Chantiers Amel - Caraïbes in Martinique we removed the outhaul motor which came out easily with a puller tool they supplied They did not have the replacement rubber inserts but instead supplied us with short lengths of rubber tubing and nylon washers. The tubing spread to fill the hole (ours looked like they were still round. The right size tubing compressed vertically and expanding horizontally might do a good job in this situation. Re: Super Maramu stern bumper painting
Covering it with fiberglass makes sense. Whenever we back into a slip we always have a fender back there anyway trying to protect the expensive bumper J
Thinking about this method some more, a person could also add a non-skid top.
With best regards,
Mark

I thought the same but was advised that this is dispersing micro volts. I'm not nerdy enough to argue. They talk so high over my head I can barely hear them. lol
So I will go with the Copper I have been turned onto, from just north of London.

Hi Andrew
Welcome to the board ! One thing to check with the steering is the cables and how well they are moving These are very hard to replace for the older models - I looked into buying spares a while back and might inform any future decisions wrt moving hydraulic All the very best Miles Maramu 162 UK

Hello everyone. I am planning on repainting the stern bumper for my SM 53. I previously sanded it down and painted with polyurethane. That lasted about a month! Admittedly, I didn't use a primer... and perhaps that is the main error. Who has repainted their bumper, and with what products? I am considering an epoxy primer this time. Many Thanks. Brackets vary by SM model/year but the rubber inserts should work. Amel had us remove the gearbox and motor after lending us the tool and we used them to service and rebuild the gearbox and electric motor. We replaced them ourselves. The rubber insert is shown before being tightened down. Note that we used Tef-Gel anti-seize on the shaft and key before reassembling--we will follow-up with a report when we next remove the shaft from the gear box. Bob and Suzanne, KAIMI SM429

Re: Amel Euros 41 1976 - Steering Wheel Removal Confusion
Andrew Eaves <andyeaves@...>
Hello Gerhard
Many thanks, I'll stick it on the list for now as the jobs are mounting! Since posting, my friend helped me strip the steering with pullers. There was a broken circlip and some seriously seized metalwork. A mix of hammer, heat and pullers, it moved things along. There is some play in the shaft vertically/horizontally, but what we thought would be a worn bearing was a plastic washer. Anyway nothing to worry about at this point. Maybe one day I'll revisit this and improve. On a fantastic note, I had a lovely quick response from Amel today in less than 2 hrs copied below; Dear Andrew First of all congratulation for buying this Euros 41.
Most of us at Amel were not yet born in 1976 and needless to say that our so called « legendary support » is highly challenged !
To sum up we do not stock anymore part for this model and you’ll find attached most of the littérature concerning the Euros.
We confirm that diesel tanks were not fitted with inspection hatch..
Renaut Marine Couach and Volvo Penta MP21A (50 HP 3500 RPM) were the 2 engines models proposed at the time.
Should you require any more precision feel free to revert to us at any time.
Have a nice sailing,
With our kindest regards

Re: Amel Euros 41 1976 - Steering Wheel Removal Confusion
Gerhard Mueller
The bolt/screw underneath the steering is for fixing the steering wheel so it doesn't turn anymore neither by hand nor by autopilot.
As there is so much missing and damaged of this steering I suggest to install a quite new steering e.g. a hydraulik steering: -- Gerhard Mueller Amel Sharki #60 Currently Kalamata, Greece

You will not find a door for a fridge more than 40 years old.
Better buy a new fridge which fits into the place of the old one. I have found a new fridge which fits exactly into the place of my Sharki. -- Gerhard Mueller Amel Sharki #60 Currently Kalamata, Greece

Re: Spurs Cutter Installation
You do not drill any holes. You change the oil drain plug for a new one with the "V" holder made to the plug. You get this part from Amel. See below, snippet from my book.

Amel Euros 41 1976 - Fridge Door Missing!

Hello
At some point in its life, the fridge door was removed and the space used as storage. Sacrilege! I know this is a long shot but does anyone know of a spare fridge door or have a suggestion of how to reinstate this? Regards Andrew

Amel Euros 41 1976 - Steering Wheel Removal Confusion
Andrew Eaves <andyeaves@...>
Hello all,
This is my first post on what will be a long term project boat. It's working and sailing but it needs some love and attention after the previous owner just found it too much for him at his stage in life. Thus my first question I hope you can help me with please. The steering is moving in/out and I am trying to disassemble to see what's going on. The sprocket looks to have a possible aftermarket bolt drilled (removed from the pic) to hold it onto the shaft, but it's not budging anyway. However I can't see how to release on the other side (steering wheel). There is a bolt/screw underneath the steering but that too is rock solid. Should it turn/pull if so what for? Many thanks in advance for any help received. Andrew
