LG solar panels shipping to Grenada
Paul Dowd and Sharon Brown
Hi all,
I’m planning on joining the Lithium revolution but first need to find a source to get LG solar panels in Grenada, but this seems to be elusive. Would anyone know of a US dealer which can ship? Specifically, I need 3 x LG325N1K-V5.

Re: Maramu 1984 - Genoa - Original sailpan overlap
smiles bernard
Hi Bill The SM rig looks really interesting I think there is perhaps a couple of difference btwn Maramu and Super M in this instance though My Maramu might be typical of others of the same vintage in that it does not have the original furler with the 3 track luff with the ability to use a mouse to release the ballooner. As such, i'll never fly the ballooner and genoa on the same furler as they cant be taken up / down independently. So to me the ballooner has only been used as a cruising chute - flown solo in light airs & without the genoa - ie not very often ! Also my Maramu does not have powered cockpit sheet winches - I've been really happy with the slightly smaller cut genoa as it makes winch work easier and better sail shape upwind but again some of the SM I have seem have nice (aftermarket?) staysails which perhaps help in this department too All the best Miles

Victron Quattro charger/inverter installation
James Cromie
Hello Super Maramu or A-54 owners -
(and particularly Scott Tengah) I am going to install a Victron 24V 5000W Quattro Charger/Inverter in my Super Maramu. As this has an internal automatic transfer switch, I am trying to figure out how to wire this unit to bypass the original Amel transfer switch. In any case, I would greatly appreciate any advice / input on how others have installed this unit in their Amel. Any photos or schematics would be extremely helpful. Many Thanks, James SV Soteria SM2K 347 Cartagena, Club Nautico (in the sweltering heat and humidity)

Re: ZF Hurth Transmission

Gary,
Thanks for tip. I might carry one as a spare.
You guys are so lucky in the States--a mere $5 ( for a product that costs a few cents ). Amazon in the UK want £36.58 ( oh, plus postage, of course ). How do they stay in business ?
I will hunt around.

I drained the fluid from the bottom drain plug then undid the one bolt that holds the shift lever in place. It comes off easily and there is absmall lip seal that can be popped out. The measurement are on the seal and I ordered a couple of replacement items from a Honda motorcycle shop :) That replacement stopped the leak and has held for four years now. The info I have is that the seal is 20mm ID, 26mm OD by 4mm thickness. The Honda part number is 91262-GBF-831 I keep those white oul-absorbent cloth "diapers" spread out under the engine and transmission (and in the genset pan) so I can quickly see if any oil is getting loose. Re: Change from electric to gas cooking?
David Crisp
Thanks Ann-Sofie,
A helpful article. When I first read it I had not realised the oven you bought was electric. I think I shall keep the electric oven for now but change over to induction plates for the efficiency. David

Re: Boat Yard at US East Coast with Experience to Apply COPPERCOAT?
I believe the application method is not relevant to number of hulls, or boat manufacturer, as long as the yard is familiar with fiberglass/gelcoat hulls....

Thank you Matt,
I spoke to Jim Edwards at the Annapolis sailboat show. He pointed us to Cape Canaveral Ship Yard Scorpion aka "Port Canaveral Marine" http://www.portcanaveralmarine.com/marine-services/yacht-services/ But it seems they do mostly Catamarans, had not done mono hulls or even an Amel. -- Michael & Robyn SY RIPPLE SM2K # 417

The US CopperCoat supplier is in Melbourne, FL.

His name is Jim Edwards. I’m sure you can find his email address on the CC site. Ask him. He’ll know for sure, as he loathes warranty calls due to improper application..... My wife and I applied ours, 5 1/2 years ago. It was difficult, and we used Jim as an information resource. It’s worked quite well for us..... ~~~⛵️~~~Matt

Boat Yard at US East Coast with Experience to Apply COPPERCOAT?
Dear Amel Owners
We are looking for a ship yard with experience in applying COPPERCOAT. North Florida, Georgia would be most convenient for us, but we can also go up to Annapolis in spring if this is the center of expertise. In case you don't want to share your (bad or good) experience publicly here our email: SY(dot)RIPPLE(dot)MandR(at)gmail(dot)com -- Michael & Robyn SY RIPPLE SM2K # 417

Change from electric to gas cooking?
David Crisp
All,
I've inherited a Force 10 electric stove and oven with Wilna Grace which means running the generator whenever we want to cook or make a cup of tea. The stove has conventional radiant electric hot plates. In the new year I'm installing ~900W of solar panels and a year later plan to change over from lead acid to a Lithium battery system with inverter/charger etc. Some advice please, do I change over to a gas stove for now, then when I have the Lithium/inverter system in place install an induction hob whilst retaining the gas oven? Or do I retain the electric stove/oven I currently have ready for the long term? My thinking being: Is it realistic to think of running the conventional electric oven off lithium batteries with inverter? Surely the overall power drain is too much? I have an induction hob onshore back home so fully understand why folks love them on a boat and can see how, being so efficient, running this from lithium batteries with inverter is viable. Thoughts/advice? Best regards David SV Wilna Grace Amel 54

Re: Lite gauge wire for bow lights
Thanks for all of the recommendations and feedback. I will add a spool of 18 guage, 2 wire tinned copper oval jacketed wire to my spares. I already have some of the 22 guage shielded, and some 16*4 flat, and some 12 or 14 /2 wire for higher voltage/current. And thanks for the reminder about the bow locker floor Thomas. I'll put something down to distribute the weight before I spend much time in there. Best regards, Daniel Carlson on sv BeBe, SM#387

Re: Lite gauge wire for bow lights
Shielded wire is great for electronics to prevent stray EMI issues. Not so critical for lighting, but still nice to have.
