Re: Cracks on bow sprit
We have it too . When we by the boat in 2015 oliver was the seveier he say it was no problem . I think it is from the anker chain in stromg winds and waves , and when you dont fix the chain with two ropes left and right on the clambs

Amel 54 battery group

Hi,
Could someone please advise what is the original battery group for the Amel 54. My batteries are not original and I don’t think they are the correct size.

My Santorin looks the same but I don’t think it’s either structural or weight bearing if you follow the forestay to its lower point of anchor. It could be the result of a collision, or could be a surface crack in gellcoat. What did the surveyor say? Who is the surveyor? What does the current owner say? Best, CW Bill Rouse Amel Yacht Owners School - www.AmelYachtOwnersSchool.com 720 Winnie St Galveston Island, TX 77550 +1(832) 380-4970

Hi Jarek,
Will defer to Olivier Beaute, but I think that's a common and not serious problem with Amels. I've got it and I just fair it out every few years to look nice. Can't give you any details of structure that causes it, but believe it's purely cosmetic and not a structural issue. Kind of like the old "Catalina Smile". Cheers

My chain counter recently stopped counting.
Before it stopped it was counting when we weren't looking and not counting when the anchor was moving. I found that the Efector IB5076 induction sensor is no longer produced, but that the IB5096 is available. The only difference in the data sheet is that the signal NPN for IB5076 is PNP for IB5096. https://www.ifm.com/ch/en/product/IB5076 https://www.ifm.com/ch/en/product/IB5096 Should this be a plug compatible replacement? I mean, one is on a lot and turns off and the other is off a lot and turns on. It is pulsing and the counter should just be counting pulses. What is the opinion here? Keith Bikini SM 282

You may already know but the inverter on your boat was after market Xantrex 110 volt with its own galley receptacles. It was wired differently from units installed by Amel so be cautious at the panel. Ben Driver SM347 La Bella Vita (former)

Desperate plea for an alternator/charging problem - Amel Euros 41, 1976, MD21a engine
Andrew Eaves <andyeaves@...>
Hello all,
PLEASE HELP AND TAKE PITY :) After 38 knots in the bay last night I am 'keen as hell' to get out of here! Apparently in 4 days next week, mother nature is going to give us a re-run for a couple of days, which may at least save us the hassle of handwashing our clothes if we put them in a large bucket before hand! So something is amiss with our charging system, as such the windlass can't retrieve the anchor and neither can the mrs by hand. Batteries are shot and I have limited ah till I replace. I suspect regulator diode issue but please read and chip in with thoughts/experiences. It's an Amel Euros 41, 1976, MD21a engine. It had two alternators when I purchased the boat a couple of months ago, but pictures show only one now as of today. I've started stripping dodgy batteries and the discovered dodgy alternator to simplify the matter. The picture shows what I believe is the OEM design, a single alternator connected to the starter. The upper alternator was faulty, (bracket showing) tested at 2 places as it happens. I 'think' this has an external regulator and no idea what the relay would be for given that also shown in the pictures. I actually don't need at this stage the upper broken 2nd alternator repaired and in the situation. With solar/wind and shore power when connected, it should have enough charge, providing I don't need to crank the engine diagnosing other issues, but that's another day. Being in the Greek islands for now, we are never going to be far from land, if this changes, I'll readdress moving forward. So thoughts; - Is there a way to confirm the diode block, if I am correct pointing at that is faulty? - If found to be the problem are there local fixes/alternatives suitable for a wiring monkey at best as my surname is not Faraday? I understand the Volvo part which is sealed is expensive and on an island in Greece, probably not quick to get other than priority pigeon from Athens. - If I am off course here, what else can I consider? - The Amel switch also shown in the pictures is due for being replaced, but I don't want to change too much too soon unless I just pay for someone to do it all. It's not just purely $$ but knowledge too. This is part of the reason for purchasing this ark. Does anyone have schematics for this switch so I can understand the terminals please? - The other picture showing a wire that clearly looks like it should be connected to the starter, wasn't previously. The connection had to be widened to get on the terminal, and when I did that, it sounds I think a low-pressure alarm, but it looks aftermarket. Either way, having this on or not made no difference to V or A at the battery. Thanks in advance. Regards Andrew

Re: Victron Quattro charger/inverter installation
James, I don't think that you want to bypass the generator/shore power switch for your 220 panel, certainly not for the entire panel. Like the 54, the SM 220 main panel has 2 buses. breakers attach to the buses. The 54 main panel is similar, but different than the SM main panel. The SM buses are independent and wired to the main 220 block inside the panel. I believe what you can do is leave the generator/shore power switch in place and wire one Main Panel bus to the generator/shore power feed, which is after the generator/shore power switch in the engine room, and wire the other bus to the output of the inverter. The difficulty will probably be moving some breakers from one bus to another to get the desired results. With 5000 watts, you will probably want washer, microwave, outlets, possibly 1 AC and possibly something else on one side. I think that you'll have to move a minimum of 2+2 breakers. You might want to make a new plexiglass face, but, at the least, you will need to relabel some breakers. I think it may also be possible to cut a bus in half, but not sure. Some 54's and 55's were made with split buses where some 220 panel breakers were automatically powered by the inverter. I may know more in a few days. If so will come back to you. --

Re: Victron Quattro charger/inverter installation
On the 230/50 panel. Port side is for items supplied by the quay/mains or generator. The starbord side is wired to the inverter. The chargers/ dive compressor, AC, washer etc is still on the port side.

I’ve used Marine Warehouse to ship an Aircon unit to Trinidad. I bought it from them, and was able to negotiate a price on the brand and model I wanted. They matched the lowest price I could find online, and of course, added their shipping fees.

Re: Victron Quattro charger/inverter installation
James. I’ve done this.its a bit of a pain but I rewired the panel. One side for inverter power, the other side for shore/generator power. Keeps it logical and simple with out the possibility of recurrent loops.

LG solar panels shipping to Grenada
Paul Dowd and Sharon Brown
Hi all,
I’m planning on joining the Lithium revolution but first need to find a source to get LG solar panels in Grenada, but this seems to be elusive. Would anyone know of a US dealer which can ship? Specifically, I need 3 x LG325N1K-V5.
