Bow thruster tool
william reynolds
As a newbie inn the pack I read and heed all the advice on the Owners site.
the info on bow thruster service and maintenance is very informative and rewarding. There is mention and reference to 'THE TOOL'. Several owners have inquired about it. Whilst perusing the inventory and tools left by the previous owners (thank you Joe) I came upon the item in the attached photo. Is this 'THE TOOL'. If not, what is it? Re: Bow thruster service SPECIAL TOOL
Patrick McAneny
Stefania, My boat did not have the tool, and I was going to make one ,when another owner for some reason had two and gave me one. I think the tool would be very easy to fabricate ,keep in mind that it does not need to be made from wood & metal or resemble the tool , however a bit of a cone shape would ease it into the hole in the hull. If there is another Amel nearby , borrow it to get your dimension and fabricate one .
Good Luck,
Pat

It was not MEK. I know what that does to plastic. These blotches and crazings will not polish out and if I tried to buff them out I could make it worse and the insurers might say that I made more damage, best to leave it for the insurers to made the assessment first. I will ask Amel for the brackets to go with the struts and fix them myself first. At least I can not mess it up if I am going to have new windscreens made. All the top and rear hatches and port windows on the Starboard side have been affected. These also need to be replaced. Need to find a contact for this also. All port windows on the Port side are still completely clear. Best Barry and Penny “Lady Penelope II” Amel 54. #17 Port St Charles, Barbados

Re: A54 fridge circulation pump
Oliver Henrichsen, SV Vela Nautica
Hello Carina, Since I changed my fridge cooling to brushless and VESC CONTROLLER we had no pump breakdowns anymore. Now we use it in tropical conditions in the Caribbean and its still working fine. You will need some kind of setup to switch the Motor on and of. I use a microcontroller instead of the original Thermostat that regulates also the temperature control of fridge and freezer. If u need help let me know I am interested how you get on. Oliver from Vela Nautica Amel54 Martinique

Re: genoa sheet track end cap/pulley block
Ah, OK, thanks for that, I'll change it to an eye bolt when I have a go at getting the port one out.
It looked to me that perhaps it's not an eye bolt per se, but an M8 stud with a screw on eye, and maybe that's what the OP has but someone has put nuts on it instead of an eye? Do you know for sure what type it is? Cheers Alan Elyse SM437

Re: Replacement windscreens
We have done almost the same. starting with 1500 grit wet or dry sandpaper, then 2000 grit, then the polishing compound with a buffing wheel, then a silicone wax.

Acetone will make Plexiglas frosty. If you purchase some acrylic polishing compound (it comes in a bar like soap) You can apply the compound to a clean pad on a buffing machine and polish the Plexiglas until it is again clear.
We do this almost daily on smaller things and I did refinish one hatch the same way.

Hi Paul, Thank you for this contact, we have just arrived in Barbados and will be going to Grenada sometime soon. I am looking to get mine replaced after some acid type liquid was dropped over mine recently during washing by inexperienced cleaners in Tunisia. The early 54’s only have one gas strut (300n) and the rubber seal is in a groove on the underside of the plastic. Your 54 has two gas struts (170n each). For your information, Your gas struts are available from Amel Hyeres. They offer in stainless steel 170n and 200n but not 300n. When I replace mine I will probably change to the two struts. Did they cut the groove in the plastic for the rubber seal? Did they cut the holes in the plastic for the gas struts and hinge brackets? I will probably claim on insurance for these as the cleaners also spilt this acid type liquid over my hatches and port windows. Looking forward to hearing back from you. Best

Espar heater exhaust hose?
David Lambertsen
Hello, Amel Club,
I want to replace the Espar heater exhaust hose on my 1989 Maramu #258. The Espar was installed by Amel as original equipment. The braided metal exhaust pipe goes into a metal pipe chase (a heat shield) and goes through the hull on the port side. The exterior hull fitting looks like an Espar fitting. I do not want to remove the exterior hull fitting until I know how to the exhaust hose is attached. It would be great to just remove the exterior hull fitting and pull out the hose, but I can't count a simple solution. I may need to replace the pipe chase, too. It is glassed onto the inside of the hull in my cockpit locker. If anyone has dealt with replacing the exhaust hose and pipe chase, please tell me whatever you can. I searched the site for photo and messages, but only found info on installing Espar heaters after a boat was constructed. -- David Lambertsen s/v Have Fun! 1989 Maramu 258

Dear Amelians,

I just wrote one or two times before now, but I religiously read all your very interesting interventions. My husband and I are preparing our Santorin for the Atlantic crossing in November. I asked Amel Mediterranee about the possibility to buy the “tool” you are talking about , but it seems it isn’t available anymore. Do you think that it could be possible to let it made by someone (carpenter or someone like this)? How can I have the sizes of the tool? May be someone of you has a tool to sell? Any suggestion should be very appreciated Stefania Dente SN 93 Euploia Bocca di Magra (Italy)
