New Head which one
The base on our old head aft is broken beyond repair. Thought I replace it with a Jabsco quiet flush, however searching the forum I see that there have been issues with the weak base. Anyone have a better suggestion to substitute it with

Hi Paul, another vote for Basimakopoulos. Kincsem overwintered there 2017-2018. They are very competent at hauling & launching and have a good team of outside contractors who do excellent work for a good value. You're also father away from the red Sahara dust than in Sicily, for example. Good luck!

SSB Ground Plane - Advice?
Duane Siegfri
We're having issues with our ICOM M802. It won't transmit at all. Another cruiser (electronics engineer) checked it with an SWR meter and said the antenna reflectance was off the charts. I understood that to mean the ground plane (counterpoise) was not "present" to the radio.
We are receiving Chris Parker, with a lot of static, between FL and the Turks & Caicos. We could not get him in Sint Maarten. We checked the conductivity of the ground wire and it was fine, so apparently that's not an issue. We also checked the mic on another set and it was fine. We checked all the connections, and they were fine, no corrosion, shiny and tight. We opened the antenna tuner and it looked good, no corrosion. We could hear the tuner tuning. I'm wondering if the lack of a counterpoise could have shorted something in the radio that is causing the lack of transmission? What could be causing the extreme reflectance on the SWR meter? Any recommendations for a radio tech in Ft Lauderdale? ICOM's manual said absolutely not to use round wire for the ground connections, which is what is on my boat. If you have an Amel installed SSB, is the ground wire flat copper ribbon or is it round wire? Thanks, Duane Wanderer, SM#477

Paul, Well there is an MDL marina in San Carles de la Rapita Spain. You pay one price for your 6 months or year, to be hauled out, they then power spray the bottom, supply stands, strap you down to concrete, complete flat yard, with electical and water supplied in that price then put you back in the water. And the main bonus is if you want is, you can stay/live on the boat, while you work. The town has all you need for provisions, they have one of the best Volvo Dealer/Service shops in the world. Not the cheapest. But really a good, safe marina. Randall, A54 #56

Bill & Karen, You guys have really been making a huge investment of time and money into your boat this year , I am sure it will pay dividends in pleasure as well as resale value. Your description of this window job was very detailed ,got to give you credit for taking it on. Its amazing how many hours it takes to complete a job like this. Its in my bucket list, but I can't find it because of all the other jobs piled on top of it.
Take it easier,
Pat

Consider in water at Marina Di Ragusa in Sicily. Little to no fouling as there are many fresh water sources within the perimeter. We lived aboard for 6 months... Jean-Pierre Germain,SY Eleuthera, SM 007, NZ

Re: Hardstand storage Greece
Paul, If location is not a factor, I can highly recommend the Basimakopoulos shipyard in Kilada. I have been using them for 14 years and they have grown and modernized with each and every year. Very boat friendly staff and Kilada is a hidden gem.

Re: Hatch handle seat (corners) for Goiot tradition series
Hello Mike,
Thank you for the kind words on the parts I made. Yes, I am in the US. It took me 5 or 6 weeks to make the batch of parts you see in the pictures. The steps are:
Without a sample of the original part in hand, there is a really high probability of surprises. Maybe we can find somebody in the group who has a broken one they could part with temporarily? Let's find a way to do this, I enjoy these sorts of challenges. Charles

I can unreservedly recommend Cleopatra in Preveza, it s the cleanest, most well organized marina I have seen and have heard same from several world cruisers. Average prices, not a steal but not outrageous. There are 4-5 Amels within a heaving line throw of us. Close to airport and there is a daily launch to Preveza town to do shopping and paperwork. Staff friendly and efficient. Best, Dave Liesse SN006
