Re: How to clean the hull from diesel soot

Duane,

There a few coats of hard wax aft of the exhaust pipes.

I use Roll-off for any soot.

However- we motored for 10 days last spring with almost no soot.

I believe the solution for me was Howes fuel treatment.

Great job!! We did the same 6 years ago, tricky job though. We used 3M Marine Silicone instead. It needs to be a flexible material. So far so good. Had to replace all of the screws and and all the plywood interior panels as well. One of the more difficult projects in renovating vintage Amels. We used a dark grey, it looks almost black from the outside but from the inside you get plenty of light and visibility. W used a locally produced acrylic manufacturer who used the old pieces as molds to give us the cut replicas of the originals. We also changed the hatches as well.

Cockpit Loud spekers

Our loud speakers in the cockpit needs to be replaced.I have problem finding suitable speakers, as most of them are round. I guess someone out there have changed them and can give som advice where to find square ones or suitable round ones, that not cost a fortune.

Floor board locks

Paul Osterberg

I'm thinking of putting locks on the large hinged floorboards as we store a lot of heavy items there (wine bottles and other necessities), In the unlikely event of being knocked down looks would make such event easier to cope with. The floor boards are rather large should one go for two on each or would one each be sufficient? I know some of you out there have them, do you have one or two on each floor board. any pictures on types of locks would be highly apreciated.

The base on our old head aft is broken beyond repair. Thought I replace it with a Jabsco quiet flush, however searching the forum I see that there have been issues with the weak base. Anyone have a better suggestion to substitute it with

SSB Ground Plane - Advice?

Duane Siegfri

We're having issues with our ICOM M802.  It won't transmit at all.  Another cruiser (electronics engineer) checked it with an SWR meter and said the antenna reflectance was off the charts.  I understood that to mean the ground plane (counterpoise) was not "present" to the radio.

We are receiving Chris Parker, with a lot of static, between FL and the Turks & Caicos.  We could not get him in Sint Maarten.

We checked the conductivity of the ground wire and it was fine, so apparently that's not an issue.
We also checked the mic on another set and it was fine.
We checked all the connections, and they were fine, no corrosion, shiny and tight.
We opened the antenna tuner and it looked good, no corrosion.  We could hear the tuner tuning.

I'm wondering if the lack of a counterpoise could have shorted something in the radio that is causing the lack of transmission?

What could be causing the extreme reflectance on the SWR meter?

Any recommendations for a radio tech in Ft Lauderdale?

ICOM's manual said absolutely not to use round wire for the ground connections, which is what is on my boat.  If you have an Amel installed SSB, is the ground wire flat copper ribbon or is it round wire?

Thanks,
Duane

Re: Hardstand storage Greece

Paul,

Well there is an MDL marina in San Carles de la Rapita Spain.
You pay one price for your 6 months or year, to be hauled out, they then power spray the bottom, supply stands, strap you down to concrete, complete flat yard, with electical and water supplied in that price then put you back in the water. And the main bonus is if you want is, you can stay/live on the boat, while you work.
The town has all you need for provisions, they have one of the best Volvo Dealer/Service shops in the world.
Not the cheapest. But really a good, safe marina.

Bill & Karen, You guys have really been making a huge investment of time and money into your boat this year , I am sure it will pay dividends in pleasure as well as resale value. Your description of this window job was very detailed ,got to give you credit for taking it on. Its amazing how many hours it takes to complete a job like this. Its in my bucket list, but I can't find it because of all the other jobs piled on top of it.
Take it easier,

Hi Amelians,

We are just about finished with installing the new windows on Harmonie, there are just a couple of pieces of trim left to put back. It was a major project! Here is a link for the details!  https://fetchinketch.net/a-new-clearer-view-of-the-world/

Consider in water at Marina Di Ragusa in Sicily.  Little to no fouling as there are many fresh water sources within the perimeter.  We lived aboard for 6 months...
