I accidentally clicked on spam blocking myself from receiving email from the forum… and Bill just help me to get back in, now using a different email address, which is:  uster@...

I don’t think I can read any reply from my post on the old email address, so if could reply again using this one.

Just updated the share parts for sale, adding Diesel Fuel Stick, Safety Bars:

I will also regularly update/add my page:

Re: Cockpit Loud speakers

I replaced ours with Fusion units as well.  While the current speaker covers are square I think you will find a round hole behind them.
I did have to drill new screw holes, and the old ones are filled but still slightly visible.

They sound great :)

Re: New Head which one

The old quiet flush base sometimes failed in 10-20 years. It was redesigned. There is not enough time to tell if it is better, but I believe it is.

Re: Floor board locks

eric freedman

Amel installed 2 on each floorboard. On my last boat I also installed 2 locks.

We have been knocked down about 12 times on Kimberlite 9 in a hurricane 1 microburst a 2 rogue waves.

For about 6 times the floorboards were not locked and the still stayed closed and nothing flew around- no drawers or cabinets opened.

Re: SSB Ground Plane - Advice?

Hi Duane,
Lack of a ground connection can cause crazy SWR readings.
Lack of a ground connection will make it impossible to transmit.
Lack of a ground connection doesn't affect your ability to receive.
Faulty coax cable between the radio and the tuner can cause high SWR readings.

You need to check that there is a low impedance path from the antenna tuner ground to the sintered bronze plates on the rudder skeg.

The best ground connection between all components is flat copper strip, but wire will work as long as it is multistranded and low impedance.(we have wire from the radio to the tuner to the ground plate connection in the lazarette, and it works fine).

Cheers
Alan

Re: Floor board locks

I had Amel install lock downs when Kimberlite was built.

However they cannot be used on a preexisting hatch.

However, I used these on my last boat –they are terrific.

Check this out.

I'm thinking of putting locks on the large hinged floorboards as we store a lot of heavy items there (wine bottles and other necessities), In the unlikely event of being knocked down looks would make such event easier to cope with. The floor boards are rather large should one go for two on each or would one each be sufficient? I know some of you out there have them, do you have one or two on each floor board. any pictures on types of locks would be highly apreciated.

Re: How to clean the hull from diesel soot

eric freedman

Duane,

There a few coats of hard wax aft of the exhaust pipes.

I use Roll-off for any soot.

However- we motored for 10 days last spring with almost no soot.

I believe the solution for me was Howes fuel treatment.

Great job!! We did the same 6 years ago, tricky job though. We used 3M Marine Silicone instead. It needs to be a flexible material. So far so good. Had to replace all of the screws and and all the plywood interior panels as well. One of the more difficult projects in renovating vintage Amels. We used a dark grey, it looks almost black from the outside but from the inside you get plenty of light and visibility. W used a locally produced acrylic manufacturer who used the old pieces as molds to give us the cut replicas of the originals. We also changed the hatches as well.
