Thanks. I also took the entire holder to the shop… to verify the interior measurements. I suspect the new ones will be made to a closer tolerance. Dessalator after sales service has been non existent. Cheers,

Re: Membrane Tube end caps
FYI, Dessalator originally made the membrane tube end caps out of white nylon. Emek copied Dessalator. Dessalator's choice of Nylon proved to be the wrong choice. Dessalator later made end caps from a harder material which was black. I am not sure of what the black material is, but, in my experience is that there have been very few issues with the Dessalator black end caps.

Hi Eric,

I had a pair of white end caps made by EMEK marine and these were not good. (I discarded them after just looking at them) But even from the factory, immediately after installation, the black ones leaked and were badly drilled out. Dessalator refused to replace under warranty even when supplied with photos…. I took a well turned end piece to a NZ shop and had a dozen made locally; they are done but I cannot pick them up due to lockdown…. Other Amel owners participated to a small group buy. (About 60% of Dessalator price without delivery and GST costs) What I’m most interested in is any modifications done to the tubes, end pieces or complete replacement of the Duo 100 membrane setup to deal with too many leaks. Kind regards,

No idea. Need to be on more intimate terms with the governor. I heard today from the dockmaster in the marina where Aletes is that a captain of a mega yacht flew in, told the authorities that he was going to quarantine on his boat. They told him no way, and he is now spending 14 days at the airport hotel. Not what he had planned.

Hi Jean-Pierre, Did you have white colored end caps? If you did not and have the black end caps, what modifications did you do to the new end caps? Fair Winds Eric Amel Super Maramu #376

Hello Bill,
I’d like to address the subject of the Dessalator membrane holders. I consider them under engineered, especially the end caps. (Duo60 and Duo 100 models)
I’ve had a NZ shop replicate the end caps but due to Covid-19, I’ve been unable to pickup the parts and complete a change over.
Has anyone modified the tubes or manufactured a different type of membrane system?
Kind regards,

Re: Excessive usage of water maker membranes
AMELIT’s previous (original) owner replaced the OEM DESSALATOR, after 4 years, with the SPECTRA NEWPORT II. I can NOT contribute anything on the DESSALATOR discussion nor want to hijack this thread.
But I do have a specific AMEL question on my SPECTRA NEWPORT II – are there any AMEL (54???) owners also with a SPECTRA NEWPORT II? I would like to Email you with the question/issue.
Thanks for the help.

There are times when you must take marina water and thus can only flush with marina water. I find it hard to believe that the makers of the membranes would not have considered this possibility in the boating world. Then again it might be pure science and I must make water in dirty marinas and harbors come what may. I have a good supply of pre filters.

Apologies for the late response.
A great idea Bill, thanks. Please put Nomad on the list tentatively as we, weather depending (again), may shove off from Martinique of the 24th of April. I believe with Zoom it can be recorded as well. Perhaps a repository possibility for those that miss the gathering? Be safe all!

I would be interested in the audio only option, as it seems that 35 active participants would be plenty for the relatively short meeting time. Any topic would of interest, schedule is great. Thanks, Dave Bruce Liesse SN006
