Barry,
I remember now – we had this exchange before. I recommended a place in Grenada called Driftwood to replace your cockpit screens – photo attahed. I can’t help with the hatches though.

I don’t know if any Amel 54 owners have had to replace the acrylics before. If anyone has any experience with replacement of the acrylics I would really appreciate any advise. This is becoming a challenge. A have had some traders wanting to cut out and replace, don’t know what quality acrylic I might get. I only want the genuine supply from manufacturers. Would appreciate any advise that anyone has. Best

I will make sure I replace both the hinge pins and grub screws. I found one Lewmar agent with some lens in stock. I am asking them to give me the actual lens measurements. Best Barry

It is much cheaper to use the method introduced by Selden.

Hi Ryan,
I am going to test this one. The vivration frecuency (musical note) os a string depends on the tension. More tension = higer frecuency. Thus, why not to try with a bass guitar tuner? :-) All the Best, Diego de Miguel Sharky 52

In Martinique and St Thomas they use a type of hydraulic tension measuring device with a digital readout. I am sure many of the bigger Brewer yards around Boston use these gauges. I am also sure that yards in Newport can measure wire well over 12 mm. My friend had his boat rerigged and the capstays were over 18 mm.
I have the Loos pt3M gauge on board which goes up to 10 mm. I really only need it when I drop the mizzen backstays to get into a smaller travel lift. Over the 16 years that I owned kimberlite before changing the rigging I found very little to no stretch in the cable. Fair Winds Eric Amel Super Maramu #376

Laurie, I apologize. I was in the zoom meeting when I received your email asking how to attend the zoom meeting. I quickly pressed a button to send you a form email for the zoom meeting, but accidentally pressed the wrong button and sent an email about my Amel Book. I am an idiot and I am very sorry about that. I see that Tilo also responded by sending you a link to the YouTube simulcast. I hope that you were able to view it. Bill

Rigging tension gauge
Ryan Meador
Hi all, On the Zoom call this evening, Ian asked if anyone uses a tension gauge when tuning their standing rigging. Here in the Northeastern USA, it seems that none of the professional riggers use them (I even had one tell me no such thing exists for wires as large as our rigging). But down in Martinique, Caraïbe Gréement (the Amel-affiliated rigging company) uses an elevator cable strain gauge for this purpose. I've attached a photo I snapped while Gaëtan's crew was working on our boat. It made quick work of the process. I'm tempted to buy one for my own use. Thanks, Ryan and Kelly

Re: Lewmar acrylic lens replacement on Amel 54
Hi Barry,
I would not worry too much about the size difference. Do make sure you are looking at the medium size profile series as opposed to the Ocean series and the low-profile series. Word of advice; also order new hinge pins as you are likely forced to break the existing ones out when removing the hatch. Lewmar did not put anti-seize paste on the hinge-pins (stainless pin in alloy hole). Also the small grub-screws holding the two halves of the frame together may prove a pig to remove. When replacing the lens most definitely also replace the seal that holds the lens, you will get leaks otherwise. I had all the hatches done last year, but did not require new lenses. Only the seals were replace because of leakage. Regards, Arno Luijten SV Luna, A54-121
