unique Amel headstay turnbuckle
amelforme
Hi Craig and I was just on the phone with Roger Underwood and he does indeed have the special turnbuckle but neither one of us can remember if the one for the Santorin is the same as the one for the Super Maramu which is the one he has. No worries as he has a machinist make them up locally and I recall they are about the same price as the ACMO unit. Roger is going to check on that price and get back to me. Additionally, Nance and Underwood use metric wire and fittings, not inch stuff ,as was mentioned in the Zoom meeting recently. Since 1988 they have supplied about 100 replacement rigs to Amel boat owners. They know how to make Amel owners happy . They also know how to ‘tune them tight’ which riggers not well experienced with Amels are reluctant to do. Roger is not my cousin, just a good friend, and all I get is the knowledge that the job will be done right, no monkey business, on schedule. Say hello to Katherine and lets bump elbows when we are once again allowed to do so…

Craig, Joel once told me that Nance & Underwood have the special turnbuckle, but you can also email Roger Underwood roger"at"nanceandunderwood.com to verify.

Bill,
Does the Lewmar switch recall apply to all or is there a date?

Re: Sail Plan - Super Maramu
Hi Bill,
How do Nance and Underwood handle the "special turnbuckle" on the headstay, which is shorter than standard ones? I used ACMO last time and, of course, it's not an issue with them, but since we're back in the States I may want to source locally. Thanks, Craig

Re: Cable feed into Main and Mizzen masts on a A54
Oliver Henrichsen, SV Vela Nautica
Hello, You find the mizzen cables behind the master shower lamp. My Mizzen to Mainmast stay antenna wire (triatic??) ended there too. So I had to route it from there to the navseat. There is a cable tube going from showerlamp to alley. The mainmast wires are accesseble above the forward alley door. Oliver from Vela Nautica Amel54#39 Martinique

Cable feed into Main and Mizzen masts on a A54
Dear forum,
Does anyone have drawings, pictures or other information on how the cables are routed into the mizzen and main masts of a A54 and how to access the cables for the mizzen? One of the things I'm still wondering is where the antenna cable from the triatic stay is going to. I also want to replace some of the other antenna cables as well as the cable for the (quite useless) Immarsat phone for something more useful. Thanks in advance, Arno Luijten SV Luna, A54-121 St. Martin

Re: A54 lewmar chain counter setup: check yours!
Hi Thomas,
Actually I found out the very same thing when I replaced the chain counter. Mine was getting pretty bad with the the LCD readout. So when I replaced it I found the same issue. One of those thing easily missed during commissioning of a yacht I guess. But It's better then the other way around, thinking you set out 30 meter and only doing 20! Cheers, Arno SV Luna, A54-121 BTW I'm having great results with the replacement of the Buegel with a Spade 35 kg. It grabs very fast and sits much better on the bow.

A54 lewmar chain counter setup: check yours!
Sv Garulfo
Hi all, I got a bit red faced the other day when I realised the lewmar chain counter was still using factory default parameters, including a 300mm chain per revolution. I measured the reality: ~450mm ... No wonder we never drag anchor... Best, Thomas GARULFO A54-122 Locked down in Tahuata, Marquesas, French Polynesia

Re: New file uploaded to main@AmelYachtOwners.groups.io
Kent, I talked to Steve about it. There were some errors in the file that were made by Steve's contractor. That file was removed from the files section. This file may help you. It is everything that was in Steve's file with some added things. It is available to you through my website at CLIENT ACCESS>>Book Supplements>>Product Information>>Part 1 Deck & Hull>>Engine Hatch Bulge Repair. There are some other files at that location, including another hatch repair method.

Re: Top loading galley fridge/freezer used as a fridge: No?
Jamie Wendell
Scott, congratulations on your crossing to Hawaii. Sorry you had to cancel the world tour - maybe another chance next year?
I converted to Coastal digital controls and use the top-loader as a very cold refrigerator. I keep it just about -1 degree C all the time to keep drinks and vegetables mostly. I get very little water inside over time, but I do get some ice buildup on the evaporator plates given my colder settings. Every few weeks I shut down and defrost and find mostly vegetable remains in the bottom. It never smells, but as I read in a response to another email about the hydraulic strut for the lid, I had to replace the strut (through Amel in La Rochelle). It is too powerful, and I have the larger lid. I intend to replace again with the one recommended in the posting. Safe travels or is Hawaii your POC for now? Jamie Phantom A54 #44

Re: Top loading galley fridge/freezer used as a fridge: No?
Oliver Henrichsen, SV Vela Nautica
Hello, I was so annoyed by the fridge freezer that I took it into parts and replaced the humid insulation. You can see me doing this job in my video on our youtube. But its a hell of a job. In our case the stainless was watertight, build #39. Where its not watertight and water gets under it is at the hole for the cooling pipes. What I would suggest as a minimal efford with huge effect is to replace the seal. We remouved the old seal. I got stripes of magnetic stainless and glued it on the topegdge of the stainless bassin where the old seal was. We ordered a custum sized, screw fixed freezer seal. (cheap its about 40 euros) This seal is fixed with screws (dipped in sikaflex) to the top lid. When the seal is fixed on the top, like on any comercial product, it does not move. Additional the comercial standard magnetic seal produces and airtight seal. The only moment when humidity enters is when we open the lid. Hope that helps.
