Re: Washing Machine and 50 htz
Hi Danny,
The actual insurer who covers 100% of this risks is ERGO Versicherung AG AG ERGO Platz 1 40198 Düsseldorf Germany
This is what I sent to Penny & Barry this morning:
As promised this is the contact info for the insurance agent I had for the last 3 years for AMELIT. He was able to get me an increased “agreed” value for the hull, machinery and equipment; he operates out of THAILAND; they are also in FRENCH POLYNESIA but the company main office is in NEW CALEDONIA.
Christophe GEORGE Poe-ma Underwriting & Management Asia Ltd (PUMA) - Poe-ma insurances Group
And these are the other agents but they all came with the same insurance company in Germany; except lower agreed values (but at a lower premium).

Re: Washing Machine and 50 htz
Hi Penny & Barry,
I didn’t try PANTAENIUS after in 2017 their USA office offered me USD17K or so which I was ready to accept. Then PANTAENIUS USA sent me to PANTAENIUS UK bcoz the boat is owned by a LONDON company and Dutch registered meaning an additional USD2 or 3K in VAT – so now close to USD20K. Bill ROUSE sent me to another Insurance company and they offered USD8K (but the boat had to be during cyclone season in NEW ZEALAND) and again, happy to save USD10K, I was ready to accept when my friends in NEW CALEDONIA introduced me to my current agent who insured AMELIT for USD5K with LLOYDS in LONDON and no cyclone clause at all.
Apparently these premium disparities still exists as last year I met in the SP some other AMEL owners paying these sky-high USD15K plus premiums. I can eat a lot of sushi for the difference in premium 😊. I am sure PANTAENIUS is still willing to write policies at these premiums while making their conditions IMPOSSIBLE to comply with so they can get out of a claim if they want to.
The writing on the wall is that in 2017/2018, while the premiums & conditions were all over the board for the same boat, these proposal were readily available from several insurance companies; now that seems to be no longer the case.

Thank's Teun,
My Aussie friends in St Martin are very grateful for your research and the good result you got. Have read a just posted good article on Noonsite about getting insurance, seems to be a hot topic now that so many boats are stuck in areas they don't want to be in. I am lucky that my wife is British and our boat is still UK registered, our insurance with Pantaenius UK is excellent though a bit pricey. I am sure your research will benefit many Amel owners.

Re: Washing Machine and 50 htz
Hi Barry,
Have now received my policy for AMELIT on very acceptable conditions & agreed value.
FWIW: I also received a quote from the last agency recommended via this AYOG forum and he also came with the same insurance company. All 3 agents advised me that the carrier didn’t want to increase the agreed hull/machinery/equipment (HMEV) value except my current agent was able to have the HMEV increased to a level I preferred. Very worrying that out of 8 agencies only 4 were able to offer me a cover at all and ALL 4 agents proposals came from the same European Insurance company ☹

Hi Teun and Mohammad, Teun, I have an Australian friend who is having trouble getting insurance. Can you give me the broker that you went with, maybe the NZ broker as well. They just lost cover that they took out 2 months ago through a Caribbean crook. If anyone wants to know who the company was, please ask.
Mohammad, when the lock down is eased I am visiting Oliver who is anchored in front of me. I will be doing the same as your plan and designing the new lithium battery system. I will let you know what I find out as I progress. Things are getting better and easier every year. Can you imagine what this lockdown is doing to people. In nearly 40 years Penny and I have never gone for a month without shopping or spending any money.

Hi Bill & All:
Mark at Borel returned my phone call yesterday afternoon. I told him of my long favorable use of his product aboard my boat and the renewed interest in the pump run-on alarm. He has retired and no longer manufactures his products. I told him there might be an expanded market for the product due to publication of its utility. He indicated he would not restart production. I further inquired if he would be willing to sell the production rights etc. and he expressed no interest in doing so. Darn it, I guess we will have to look elsewhere for a 28 VDC pump run-on alarm. Re: Replacement of carpets in SM
Alexander, I am of no help in France but we made our own replacements without too much trouble.
We made a template.from large wrapping paper then bought a "remnant" piece from a big-box store. Cutting it with a box cutter was not too hard, just have to be careful. Once we had the pieces cut out we took them to a real "Carpeting and Flooring" store and asked them to "Bind" the edges which they did nicely in only a couple of days. We learned that the "Binding" process adds a small amount of extra material to the edges so our pieces were just a tiny bit too big but still fit ok. I think we will do it again this summer as the first attempt was mostly an experiment anyway. It was not very expensive overall. Best wishes! Gary W SM 209, Adagio Georgia, USA

Re: FRESH WATER SAFETY CUTOFF

there are no simple solutions. the leakage can appear anywhere in the system. the discharge can be fast or slow, it can be regular or occur in specific condition (of temperature for example).
the timer is not the solution as it can cut the water when you are just second or third taking shower. the only way is to implement AI to distinguish leakage loss from normal water consumption. kind of analysis of presence of crew, times of running for FW and bilge pumps etc. the only reasonable way is to switch it off when needn't and, when on, watch FW and bilge pumps indicators as you must do for all other things as a responsible sailor under COLREG-72.

Re: FRESH WATER SAFETY CUTOFF Maybe Gary Silver will respond
I've had this Square D switch with safety feature for some time now. The added safety is good but if a hose starts leaking it will do nothing to prevent pumping your fresh water tank empty unless the leak is massive and close to the pump. The main objective of the safety is to prevent the pump from running when the tank is empty.
Our pump never runs continuously when using the taps or the showers. Only for the toilets the demand exceeds the pump-supply capacity. In all other cases the pump supplies more water then requested, causing the pressure vessel to fill up. At some point the pressure exceeds the shut off pressure (even when the tap is still running) and the pumps stops for a short while until the pressure vessel has lost enough pressure to re-activate the pump. In other words in many cases the pressure drop will not be enough to activate the safety feature on the Sqare D switch. So when, let's say the shower tape starts leaking it will happily empty out the watertank even with the Square D safety feature. The most simple way to secure the system is obviously switching off the pump when you leave. A timer may work but with a big leak you can pump quite a lot of water out of the system in an hour so the question becomes at what duration the time should be set.
