I am not very good with electric parts but I had a similar problem. No click from the starter but I did hear a whish noise from behind the control panel. I took them out and put them back in, when pressing down on one the Onan started. I replaced both relays and all then started and worked. Re: Onan does not start
You should check the negative and positive start solenoids and the wire connectors to these. Most of the time it is the negative solenoid. The second most common cause is the connection between where the start battery negative wire connects to the terminal on the outside left of the Onan and the connection to the negative solenoid. You can check both of these using a jumper cable between where the start battery negative terminal connects to the Onan and, first, to the battery-side of the solenoid. This will check the wire and connections. Next, then from the start battery negative connotation terminal on the Onan to the other side of the solenoid. That will check the wire, connections, and solenoid. Use CorrosionX on all connections. SM Outhaul troubleshooting
Hi all, on our last passage I popped the breaker on the mainsail Outhaul a couple times. I disconnected the motor from the Outhaul and was able to reset the breaker and actuate the motor, but the when reconnected it it popped the breaker again. Onan does not start
My Onan is totally dead nothing happened when trying to star not a slightest click. I have measured 12,8 volt between +on the starter and minus on the alternator, but only about 4 volt between + on the starter an - I believe it is on the starter see attached photo the same reading 4 v between plus on the starter and the ground strap.
I assume the reading should be 12,8 and not 4 volt? Any idea where to start searching? Paul on SY Kerpa SM 259, Lagos, Portugal sykerpa.com

Re: Genoa Swivel - position + binding connection to the genoa top loop - Amel 54
Bill,
Thanks for the link to the video. Now I got a good idea how the system works. Very smart solution ! I didn't know this existed. It's a shame we don't have the split poles anymore on the 54 because that was very easy system to set up. On our 54 we now use the Parasailor. But for a short handed crew I think the genoa/ballooner system is safer because it can be rolled in a second in case of a squall (specially at night) Drawback with the twin sails is the rolling of the boat and the necessity to sail almost dead downwind.

Hi Jacob I put double sided tape (3M) into the socket. The nut sticked in it quite well until it was on. Is that attachment point at the top something you added, or is it original? Jacob

Re: SM Anodes especification
#replacement
Ryan, I do not know. I believe it was a SM2k anode bolt that I measured. Of course, I did not measure a wide range of production years. And with the increasing age of the SM, it is impossible to rule out some owner modification. I do remember that I had to drill-out anodes bought in the US. Bill

Is it possible the size of the bolt changed between the SM and SM2000? Our anode bolts measure 9.84mm x 40.5mm. It's not imperial, because it's too big to be 3/8". It's exactly in spec for M10. I haven't seen or heard any evidence our boat has been modified in this respect. Ryan and Kelly

I recommend US R7 Anode (zinc 7" diameter). In Europe use a 127mm anode. An M12 bolt is used to secure the anode. Bill

Re: Genoa Swivel - position + binding connection to the genoa top loop - Amel 54
Laurens, Very few 54s had the second pole + ballooner option, although I believe all of the 54s had the genoa foil and swivel needed for the twin pole/ballooner. This video of a SM may help you visualize the system. The 54 poles are full length rather than 2-part SM poles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqNF1ggKGRw Bill
