Von: "Arno Luijten" <arno.luijten@...> An: main@AmelYachtOwners.groups.io Betreff: [AmelYachtOwners] A54 Engine Transmission (ZF25) I just uploaded the workshop manual for the engine transmission into the "/Files / Volvo Penta" section. I don't think there is a lot we can do about this thing ourselves as it needs lots of specialty tools to work on it.
One thing I did wonder about. Does anyone have recommendations about refreshing the oil in the transmission? I don't remember seeing any mention of this in the manuals. Regards, Arno Luijten SV Luna, A54-121

Re: Passerelle
eric freedman
There are a number of other things for the passerelle.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Attached to my starboard backstay is a tubular rod that swings down and goes into a ring welded to the starboard side of the passarelle. This prevents the passerelle from swinging back and forth. The starboard halyard on the mizzen is connected to a piece of bungee cord. It attaches to the the stern most port loop on the top of the passerelle. If you adjust the tension correctly the passerelle will not touch the dock and to enter or exit you just pull the bungee cord down to the dock. Lastly there are 2 stainless poles with a thick line connecting them. The shackle attaches to the same spot as the bungee cord, then a stainless pole into a hole in the passarelle, more line and then the second pole into the passarelle. Finally there is a thinner line that ties to the middle stanchion on the stern. This makes a nice hand rail to balance while entering or exiting the boat. You will find that this setup works best in the lower hole in the dstep on the stern Fair Winds,'Eric sm 376 Kimberlite

Re: Passerelle
Vic, On ours, the wheel side goes on the dock and the boat side has a short pole that goes into one of two available corresponding holes on the stern (one on deck and one on the top step). This allows the passerelle to pivot. Hope this helps. Someone will likely have a photo for you soon. Denise McGovern S/V CARA SM 440 Chesapeake Bay

Passerelle
Vic Fryzel
Hi,
Can folks please link me to any resources in terms of actually attaching the passerelle to the stern? I've found a couple of photos, but mostly in the photos it seems as though folks are just tying it to a stanchion and/or davit, and it's otherwise free to roll. Is that correct assuming I set the appropriate springs? Thanks! -Vic "Moon Dog" SM248

Useful addition to Volvo D3-110 engine's sea water circuit
When working on our D3-110I-rev. C engine, I discovered a shattered impeller. I hate that as it means you need to open the intercooler to get the remains of the impeller out of the system. Opening up that thing means you need new O-rings to re-assemble that thing.
So when finding out which parts I need to order for our engine I noticed something in the documentation. Volvo apparently noticed the same problem at some point. For the 130 HP and higher versions they included a sea water strainer in the system. Why the 110 HP version was not given this option is beyond me, maybe because the cooling capacity of system for the 110 version has more headroom. It may be if you have a D,E,F,G or H version of this engine this filter is already present, I'm not sure. If not a similar filter can be installed as well (different version!) Anyway, if you look at the enclosed screen-print you can see the hose between the sea water pump and the intercooler can be replaced with some alternate parts to provide a sea water strainer to catch impeller bits. I have now ordered the following parts: Hose 3817382 Hoseclamp 994562 (3 pce) Hose 3817383 Filter assy. 3812612 Hoseclamp 994564 To replace the hose between the pump and the intercooler. I also got hold of the correct Workshop manual for the C-version of this engine. I uploaded it to the "Files / Volvo Penta /" section of the forum. Another thing I did is order a new lid for the (Vetus) sea water strainer for the main sea water intake (from Amel). I added a garden-hose connector to the lid using a Dremel and a drill. I can now connect a garden hose to the water-intake to flush the sea water system when required (lay-up). By connecting this to a water-tap with adequate pressure you will push water trough the A/C, Fridge and Anchor wash system without running either of those. Flushing the engine and genset is also possible however you must take care as closing the valve to the manifold for the above mentioned systems creates pressure in the suction part of the engine's sea water system. In my case it blew off one of the bellows of the transmission oil cooler. No damage occurred, but I needed to remount it. So what I did is start the engine and immediately after opened the tap. Be careful not to rev. the engine as your average tap can hardly keep up with the demand at idle. Alternatively you can also use a big water resevoir to feed water to the engine instead of connecting the hose to a watertap. Regards, Arno Luijten SV Luna, A54-121

Hi Bill, I've attached the one I made when I renamed our boat. The dimensions listed are in inches. Some SMs have a grab rail to port of the steps which might eat into this space, so keep that in mind. Ryan and Kelly

Re: new Rigg on SM2000
Alexis LETELLIER
Hi Eloi,
I just changed my standing rigging at Seanergie Hyeres. And as you said, it's ACMO fittings with WDS cables. I actually didn't challenged that part. My standing rigging was from 1989, and when they removed it, they could confirm it was still in excellent conditions. Still, we wanted to be safe, and 30 years is a good life already. If I may ask, how do you know your rigging has to be changed? (2004 looks young compare to our SR) I can't answer your question about quality of these cables. Just one point, Seanergie warned me that today, cables are made with a small part of carbon for some reason. And this material can give a slight "rusty acpect" quite quickly. But it's not real rust, and has no impact on the solidity/longevity of the cables. cheers Alex

Re: new Rigg on SM2000

Hi Eloi,
We had Pen Azen rerigged 4 years ago by X-Voiles in Hyeres on the recommendation of Amel. Very professional job. They took both masts off the boat. When they finished the boss and I sailed for about 5 hours while he carried out the final tweaks.
They , too, used ACMO fittings but bought the cables direct from Germany. As I recall it, the one German supplier is the company that everyone uses--including ACMO themselves.
We rerigged after 16 years and about 50,000 miles, which was stretching things a bit, though the old rig was in good condition. Having a new rig tweaked by a pro made a noticeable difference to our sailing performance.

Im am in the process of buying a SM2000 from 2004. The standing rigg has to be changed. Amel in Hyères proposed to me the company "Sea Nergie Nautic" (former Rousseau) to do the work. They made a quite interesting offer with fittings from ACMO but the cables would not be from ACMO but from WDI in Germany. Does anybody have experiences with those cables or would you recommend to use cables from ACMO. Many thanks for your help. Eloi SM 2000 #426 (hopefully in 3 Weeks)
