Re: Anchor sizing
Dominique Sery
Hello Victor,
I changed the anchor but not the chain.
Because I have 100 meters (10 mm) stainless steel.
The locker can not store 100 m 12 mm or 14 mm and in Greece sometimes you have to drop the anchor in 20 m deep water.
But I think that 10 mm is too small, the chain is not heavy enough and the boat swings.
For the weight on the bow, I removed the second anchor and its chain, which I never used.

Re: Anchor sizing
This is a very enriching thread. Thank you all for such valuable information. I am also about to change my 30 kg. Wasi for either a Mantus 48 kg. or an Ultra in my SM. But I see no one talking about the size of the chain (not the length). Do you recommend 10 mm or 12 mm. My first idea was going for a 12 mm. but I fear it might be too heavy on the bow. The other option is to keep my current 70 m. 10 mm. Inox chain with a 30 meters line. Any comments about this will be more than welcome. Thanks in advance. Victor Alendoy SM#314

These photos show what I received from Maud about a year ago. I had it installed here in Thailand, and looks good. I showed a photo installed, and how they cut it in the corners. They didn't cut it like crown molding, they only cut out the bottom, and left the top to fold over itself. Hope this helps. Ken on Aquarius SM#262

I am ordering these switches on Monday—sorry for the delay. They will be shipped to you express mail. If anyone else is interested, Please email me with the the quantity you wish and your MAILING address. Fair Winds Eric Amel Super Maramu #376
I have broken a few of these switches over the years. I have done this by reaching over the generator to retrieve something stored behind the genset. I received a quote from my Onan dealer and on Amazon for around $90- plus tax which is ridiculous. I tracked down the OEM manufacturer and the cost is about $23- plus a one time set up fee of about $50- I plan on ordering 2 of these. They stated that they make this for ONAN. If anyone is interested please let me know and I can order them for you $33- each plus USPS of about $8.00. I will order the switches within a week. Fair Winds, Eric SM 376 Kimberlite

Hi Ken,,
Thanks for the tips. Thanks also for the video which is really helpful. We do have the rebuild kit on board in case we have to fit it.

I rebuilt my bow thruster twice. The first time was in Trinidad, and the second time was in New Zealand 18 months ago. I made a video about the bow thruster https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-xWzNfnWLw The previous owner of Aquarius had left a spare shaft from Amel on the the boat, so in New Zealand I replaced the shaft and the seal. Just replacing the seal with a smaller diameter inner measurement will probably not give you the proper fit. I would have the shaft machined down to the point it's smooth and get the proper sized seal for the final measurement after the shaft is completely smooth. I replaced mine, but one of these days I will have the old shaft machined and purchase some properly sized seals so that I have a spare shaft. After seeing what happened to JP's boat, completely rebuilding his bow thruster in New Zealand as well. I decided to purchase the entire gear, shaft and bearing set from Maud. I now have this as a spare on Aquarius. Thus, I can rebuild the bottom end of the bow thruster in an afternoon with the parts on Aquarius. No machine shop required. Paul also did a rebuild video of the bow thruster bottom end. https://youtu.be/6zRPHvzMvtg And he had the kit from Maud which he shows in the video. And he did his at anchor. After I replaced the shaft in New Zealand, I have had no leakage. I am now on the hard in Thailand, and everything still looks great after 18 months and going from New Zealand to Thailand. Re: Mango fuel filter question
Hello Craig. good advice, and I have made sure that about 99 percent of what is on my Amel is the same setup as the original where possible.. ;-)
I am used to having a visual indicator of fuel condition and filter condition at a moments glance. I had the RACOR 500MA and pressure gauge on my last vessel which I could always visually check before entering a port or leaving port. I recently had an incident where I was delivering a 60 foot 2018 Beneteau and the owner is very meticulous with his maintenance. We were 4 miles from entering the harbor when the boat powered back on its own and eventually stalled. It ended up being a clogged fuel filter. We changed the filter and went along our way, but if that had happened 4 miles later, we would have been adrift in a busy seaport until we could raise sails if there was room... So if it can happen on a new boat with a owner that just changed his fuel filter a few months prior it reminded me that I really do not know what my fuel in the tanks look like or the filter condition until after there is a problem.. So that was the genesis of my thought process, But I do agree that Henry got it right and simpler is better as eventually everything will need maintenance and is subject to failure...

Did you need to change the bow roller to the ultra style or did your stock super maramu one work with the new anchor?

Hi Bryce,
Yeah I am aware of the 60 days refund but my intention is to sail AUSTRALIAN waters for the season (or maybe 2 seasons) 😊 I hear the WHITSUNDAYS are magnificent.
I could postpone buying the chain until I am ready to leave.

If you purchase the chain within 60 days of departure you should also be able to claim back the 10% GST.

Re: Changing the base of the WC on an older SM
I just recently did this job.
Jabsco claims in their literature the holes on the new part align with the holes on the older style base. They lied. The old style has 4 holes the new one has three holes. Also, be careful. They changed the base’s design and not the part number.
In my case, I did not find the backing plate extended to the area needed for the new bolt placements. This was very evident when drilling the new holes. I filled the old holes with epoxy (I color matched the brown).
I used stainless steel threaded coil inserts secured with resin for the new screw positions. Then screwed the bolts into the inserts.
With best regards,
Mark
