Has anyone been able to find the magnetic microswitches on the bowthruster? I am attaching a picture of them. Tough to find someone who will sell them.

Re: Sea Chest
Mark, Below will help you understand what Amel originally did on your SM: This will help you understand generally what Amel does today with PVC manifolds and some other ideas for you:

Sea Chest
I am looking for some ideas to redo the sea chest. I am pretty sure the unit I have is not factory since an additional water maker was added by the previous owner. Also, my current unit is polypropylene pipe and I have read about corrosion being an issue on other Amels. So, I have no idea how Amel originally designed this.
Coming off the Vetus strainer, I have independent direct connections to the generator and engine. The third goes to a one-way flow valve, a shut-off valve and then to a pipe with outlets for air conditioning, heads/anchor wash, water maker one, and water maker two. There are no independent shut-off valves for each of these four outlets. I am wondering if anyone has tackled this project and can give me some pointers regarding design and placement.
I would like something that is easy to clean and has individual valves for each outlet. Thoughts?
With best regards,
Mark

Re: Inverter grounding and other details
Hi Bob,
Thank you for your replay. I think your approach is OK, particularly for a small inverter. However, for a 5KW inverter, I also want to run pretty much all the 220V devices in the boat (obviously not at the same time). The inverter will be located next to the battery bank to minimize the distance to the batteries and make sure the inverter is in a dry place. I already had the experience of having a saltwater leak which sprayed over the desalinator high-pressure pump (which shortly after died) the battery chargers and most of the pumps. I plan to place a Plexiglas barrier protecting the battery chargers similar to that which will be used to protect Kamela Harris tonight from the vice-president Corona virus spary ;). Also, by connecting the inverter 220V output to an outlet identical to those used by the two shore power outlets, it will be connected to all the 220V devices that are run with shore power and generator without having to modify any of the AC wirings of the boat and will use the RCD of the "white box". I find it unnecessary to add a second RCD at the outlet of the inverter for the same reason that there is no RCD between the shore power and the "white box". With this approach, I can manually change the plug between any of the two shore power outlets (as currently possible) or the inverter outlet that will be installed in that box. In addition, while I was charging the current AGM batteries with shore power and monitoring the current into the batteries, I turned on the generator and observed that the charging current went temporarily to zero before it restarted with the generator. This means that the relay switch does exactly what your 3 position switch. It disconnects the power input to the "white box" before turning on the power from the generator. Obviously, I will not be using the battery chargers while the plug is connected to the inverter outlet (the new outlet I plan to add to the "white box") but I could be using any of the other devices inadvertently. In case I want to charge the batteries with the generator I will be turning off the inverter before I turn on the generator. and then turn on the battery chargers. This will prevent that I inadvertently leave the battery chargers running on inverter power after I turn off the generator by forcing me to make sure the battery chargers are off any time I turn on the inverter. I want to clarify that I will be installing an inverter and NOT and inverter charger which brings other complications to the problem, particularly when using shore power with 60 Hz. Still, I what to know what people have done with the AC grounding of the inverter. (leave it disconnected or connected to the battery negative cable I will be adding pix once I have concluded and tested the new system Jose Venegas Ipanema SM 278

Finally – don’t underestimate the importance of having the lines of your davits hanging exactly straight down and NOT in an angle from the davits to the tender. It is amazing how quickly even Dyneema chafes thru in a rolly sea; I had the stern davit line breaking on a 1 week old HIGHFIELD during 30 plus knots of wind against the swell on passage from NEW CALEDONIA to TANNA, VANUTUA. We were able to re-rig/secure the dinghy but it was NOT cool. The beauty of the OCT is that Russell will ask you for the exact distance between the davit lines and then makes sure the Dyneema hook up straps will be at the right place. Since then I never had a problem with the davit lines chafing.

Yes I slept on the problem. It turned out I needed to back out the arms at the top furling swivel. My top lashing on the genoa broke and the tension on the halyard jammed the swivel right up to the black plastic
stopper
The tender is the Caribe L9 with 15 HP 4 stroke. It can only just plane with four people on board. It hauls up on my solar stern arch and is absolutely fine in all weather. However for ocean passages I put the outboard in the stern locker and store it upside down on the aft coach roof. It just fits without fouling the mizzen sheet.
It is a good ride and very sea worthy. Being smaller than your current one there is no problem with it overhanging port and starboard, and as you can see the stern passerelle goes over it if it is lowered. I must say I do like the look of the NZ hard tenders, the only problem is the price and of course theft.

Re: Inverter grounding and other details
Hi Jose,
We installed a 63 amp, 660V, 3 position rotary switch. The left position connects all 3 wires coming from the autoswitch that will give you shore power or generator, the middle position has no connections of the 3 wires and the right position switches all 3 wires coming from the inverter. The 3 wire output goes directly to the input terminals of the "white box" AC panel above the sink. Earlier I had posted a full explanation of the installation and the advantages of it. The Amel posting also has links to pics of the installation--- https://amelyachtowners.groups.io/g/main/message/49150?p=,,,20,0,0,0::Created,,kaimi,20,2,0,46195362 A link to photos of the installation are in the posting-- https://photos.app.goo.gl/xoac3UQCHckm7TPN8 The old link to eBay for the switch itself is no longer valid but here is a current link https://www.amazon.com/Baomain-Universal-Changeover-SZW26-63-Position/dp/B01IZ5ZFYC Even though I had the parts and a plan, and the tools, we had the installation completed using a marine technician at Manoel Island Boatyard in Malta. In my opinion having an professional expert involved is worth it for safety reasons. He required an RCD installed immediately after the 220V exited the inverter (even though it went only about 3 feet to the "white box" AC which also has an RCD. The installation also required an appropriately sized DC breaker just before the inverter (ABYC requirement which you can Google). Let me know if you have questions. Bob, KAIMI SM 429

actual I have a Plastimo 270 Hypalon wit GRP bottom and 6 HP Evinrude. Because I am sailing alone, it is important for me to have it easy to handle. Long distances, heavy weather I keep on deck and it fits between my mizzen traveller and mast. In the davids, I have a construction from La Rochelle. It works in some marina to lift it down and use the pasarella above and take care for your head. The SM space for rib is more less than at 54. I attach a picture. The last 20 years I put a lot of dingys in rubbish. The last on my previous boat was a Caribe L9 and and it was ecellent but get sold with my boat. the reason now for Plastimo was only the price under 2k € and Hypalon. If money is not important but the quality Pischel is my favorite. They will ask you the placing for the lifting hooks that it fit to your davids, the color of the tubes and everything you want. Same here – 2020 completely shot as far as sailing. I wouldn’t be surprised if even Q2 2021 is optimistic for AUSTRALIA as I believe they will first have a 2 or 3 months travel bubble between NZ and OZ before even contemplating opening to the rest of the world. Even when that happens I wouldn’t be surprised travel originating from or coming via USA to be getting “special” attention/rules. ☹.
I got the OC350 = 350 centimeters with the Delta panel; ladder; beachmaster wheels (absolutely fantastic); AMEL color coordinated burgundy rub rail; nav lights etc. etc. They also have a full Carbon version which I did NOT order and I believe, since recently, a sailing dinghy.
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
But absolutely worth it – I think, after having had 4 dinghies within 18 months before the OCT, I am qualified to tell the difference. BTW – the very first dinghy, which was on board when I got the boat, I loved the best as long as I was on anchor but just didn’t make sense to have on the boat during passage: a brand-new (6hrs) old, huge HIGHFIELD center console with 50HP HONDA outboard. Total listed weight 295KG while the davits are rated for 300KG. I suspected the 295KG listed weight for the dinghy to be w/o the 35 liter gas which would have put it well over the rated 300KG for the davits.

Hello M&A, My neighbors tender is a brand I hadn't heard of before called 3D https://www.3dtender.com/ALUMINIUM-SEMI-RIGID-TENDERS-147-64-0-0.html My purchase was the Highfield 310 and didn't want to wait for the Hypalon as they were unsure when they could get one in Gibraltar. I believe that the extra investment in Hypalon pays for itself. The 3D tender when side by side is identical to the Highfield. My 310 is at the limit of width for the 54. And we are restricted to keeping it on the aft. I wish I had the OCTender that was on the back of my boat. I regret not making it the one and only demand when purchasing my boat. They are very nice, hindsight 20/20.
Safe travels, and wishes the world opens soon. Randall A54#56

Hi Mohammad, Hi Aty,
We very briefly met as you were leaving when we were both anchored off Corfu town last summer.
I bought Amelia with her Caribe included and it is still going strong. Hypalon pontoons and GRP rigid hull. I highly recommend this brand.
In my opinion Hypalon is well worth the extra expense. I also believe that if you have the habit of leaving an aluminium hulled rib in the water the whole time corrosion and adhesion of the pontoons to the hull can be a problem. If however you are in the habit of hoisting the dinghy on your davits every evening that may not be a consideration.

Hi Dirk;
Thanks for the input. Did you have to make any modifications to the lifting points to be able to lift the dinghy on the Davits or was it just plug and play? We currently have a 20HP Yamaha 4-stroke. Do you think this will plane with 4 people? We’d also like to be able to pull surfboards and other toys behind. Are there attachments at the transom for ski ropes and do you see any issues pulling with this tender?
Not sure where you are currently cruising, but do you have to moor stern to? If so, does the CL360 interfere with adjacent yachts when leaving the dock in a cross breeze?

Hi Mohammad,
this year we bought a Highfield CL360 in Hypalon. It fits perfectly on the AMEL davits (Cooney Simpson). Hypalon should be chosen if the dinghy has been in salt water for a longer period and is exposed to strong sunlight. We have a powerful outboard motor (Yamaha 25PS) with which the CL 360 can drive perfectly over long distances, even with several people. The aluminum hull is very light (the CL360 weighs only approx. 70kg) and thanks to the good V-shape it drives very well over the waves, even at higher speeds. Incidentally, the new Yamaha 25PS still fits in the aft locker on the outboard motor bracket ... a perfect place for the outboard motor for longer sea passages or winter storage. In addition, the CL360 fits perfectly (upside down) on the aft deck ... also for longer sea passages or winter storage. We are very happy with this dinghy choice.
Many greetings and thanks again for your help regarding the oil pressure sensor this summer!
