Re: Installing a holding tank Amel Maramu
The tank was made by BONAR Plastics http://www.bonarplastics.com/ …. Philippe

Does anyone know where you can buy the tanks shown in Phillipe's post. I have one of those tanks and wanted to replace it but the only retail source I could find was Accastillage Diffusion. Unfortunately, they no longer carry them. My research says they are still manufactured but I couldn't find a retailer. Any suggestions?

Hi everyone,
We're in the process of buying a 1985 Amel Maramu & were surprised to find there is no holding tank on it.
Has anyone installed one in a Maramu? Did you do it yourselves or get a professional? We're looking at costs, in the water or (I'm presuming it needs to be done whilst out of the water for a through hull)?
Any information or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

Re: Eumenia Mini 5500 Dishwasher Parts
Ken, When the drain pump failed on the original Austrail Clothes washer I bought one here: https://www.espares.co.uk/search?SearchTerm=dishwasher%20pump I was lucky in that I matched what I thought looked like the pump. It fit perfectly. Bill

Re: Standing rigging
Bernd, The best advice you can find was just given to you by Craig Briggs, who owns a Santorin like yours. You can contact ACMO at www.ACMO.fr or Laetitia Boudon <laetitia@...>, +33 03 81 35 70 86. She has helped many Amel owners with a complete kit manufactured to exact original specifications. As far as I know, these kits have always fit perfectly. Tell her I said hello. Bill

Re: Installing a holding tank Amel Maramu
I actually have a schematic of a holding tank designed by Amel. When I get home from work, I would gladly post it . The tank should fit both Sharki's & Maramu's since the forward head are about the same dimensions. Aras S/V FIASCO Sharki #163 1988

Hi Jim, We'd be interested in seeing the pictures if that's possible. You can use the email address at the top to send anything through to. If there's a lot we can share a folder on Dropbox. Thank you for your help, its really appreciated. Kind regards, Sarah & Trev

Thanks for the information Ian. Thats interesting to know that you can have them installed without ripping the heads apart. Kind regards, Sarah

I am not familiar with the interior of the Maramu, but the Santorin looks the same as the Super Maramu. We've lost the clothes hanging drying area as the tanks fit that space and the pipework does fill most of the alert side storage areas. The tanks are visible but not unsightly. The pros are that all maintenance is easy, access to valves, macerator pump tank interior access ( not pleasant but useful!) and of course the tank level reader. I haven't spotted it yet, but somewhere there is a schematic of the pipework and tank dimensions. In my previous boat I had stainless steel tanks. Avoid s/s for holding tanks!! I will be heading back to Lithuania in a few weeks, and will try to contact him from there. If not I am going to try to find the closest pump and retrofit! All the best! Ken Aquarius SM2K262

Re: Antigua riggers
Hi Nick,
That you've got a spare with you suggests you can easily do this yourself. With a couple of dock-mates you can likely do it in half a day - it is not rocket science. There are several posts on this DB, including from the big "OB" about how to do this - don't forget the split cylindrical Delrin spacer you'll encounter when you dissemble it. Get a small tub of grease and have fun! -- Craig, SN68 Sangaris, Tropic Isle Harbor, FL

Hi Sarah , hi Trev,
We have an older Maramu (#79) and installed a holding tank in the forward head - the boat does not need go come out of the water for this work , as it uses the same sea cock with a Y valve fitting - all the other necessary holes ( breather and pump out ) are above water . I can send you some images if you want. They are great boats for cruising and voyaging . All the best Andy and Fifi SV Paladin Sent from my iPhone

Re: Standing rigging
Hi Bernd,
This is one of those questions that sits on the border of engineering and philosophy, with no clear winner. Much like "What is the "best" anchor". I'd encourage you to read the many past posts on this discussion board and make up your own mind. There are too many variables for anyone to give you a definitive answer and those who do are often not unbiased, like the insurance company who wants 7 years so they reduce their risk of a claim - or a rigger who will profit from you replacing now. Your SN #119 is maybe a year or two younger than my 1992 SN #68. I had a mizzen aft lower break in 2010 on a power reach flying the foc d'artimon. That was at 18 years old and after about 25,000 miles of passage-making. I repaired it but then replaced all the next year - an easy do-it-yourself-in-the-water job for about $5000 from ACMO, duplicating the original (except for right-hand, not left-hand turn-buckles (bottle-screws)). So my "new" rig is now 10 years old, but my sailing is now pretty much just a couple of thousand miles of coastal/near-offshore cruising a year, my insurer doesn't have any requirements and I certainly won't be getting new any time soon. So, how old is your rig; where has the boat been sailed (tropics vs. cooler climes); how hard has she been sailed; what is your personal risk tolerance; are you comfortable and capable sailing with a spare shroud should one fail; are you doing weekend sailing from a marina, or seasonal coastal cruising; perhaps a slow circumnavigation; or maybe the Vendee Globe? Hope this helps your decision process. -- Cheers, Craig, SN68 Sangaris, Tropic Isle Harbor, FL

Re: Antigua riggers
Nick, There are options in Antigua, but none in the entire Caribbean are better than Caraibe Marine Greement (Rigging) in Martinique. They are a Preferred Vendor and have rerigged at least 50 SMs & 54s that I am aware of.

Re: Onan group on SM number 32
Juan, Over the years of production, some Onan generators have Normally Closed (NC) sensors and other Onans have Normally Open sensors (NO). Just because some other Super Maramu had NC sensors does not mean that your SM has the same. Attached is a page from my Amel Book that explains some of this.

Thanks for your advise. Next time my Onan will shut down i will try to short circuit the exhaust sensor or the coolant sensor to identify the origin of the pb. Best regards Juan de Zulueta Ophelie X SM 32 Envoyé de mon iPhone
