Re: Deck
Ross Hickey & Donna Hammond
We used International Toplac Ivory with about 10% Toplac Cream as international no longer make Brightside. The mix was a very good max. We brought the Beugler tool but didn’t use it as we felt we got a much straighter line using masking tape and once it was masked it was very easy to paint two coats using an artist brush.

Whole job took about 100hrs and used 200 rolls of tape and 750ml paint for two coats. We are very happy with the job. Regards Ross and Donna SV Intrepid Kiwi SM2K #356 Currently in Turkey

Re: The maintenance fuel bladders
eric freedman
We have had a 200 liter fuel bladder made by nauta for many years. they made two types. The better one which we have has a nylon outer coating , brass connectors and hold down straps. We fill it and drain it with a pump through one 5/8 inch hose. When we are done with itn we hold it up so the drain is at the bottom , and the roll it up. Th tank stays in the port locker for 6 months at a time. when we fill it up again we add Howes fuel treatment to the fuel. We have never had a problem. Fair Winds, Eric SM 376 Kimberlite

Re: Deck
Ww used Interlux Brightsides Hatteras White with a flattening agent. Very close match. Two coats. Looks great after three years. About 40 hours per coat. Be careful with the striping tool. Despite many attempts to thicken it, dwe found the paint still gets runny coming out of the chamber and onto the wheel. Good luck! Sent from my Galaxy

Deck
Dear all,
I finally made it to get my Beugler striping tool. Not easy since the California Branch does not even answer emails and the European branch is in the UK. So nowadays outside Europe.... Anyhow my Q is... Which kind of paint did you use for the deck stripes and how did you dilute it etc. I find many pics in the gallery, but thats it. Please also let me know if its better to use Owatrol/Polytrol with a brush or cloth. Thanks -- Bernd SN 119 / Cascais, Portugal

Re: The maintenance fuel bladders
14 days and 10 Jerry Cans should be more than plenty but I agree bladder should be fine. If you’re really concerned fill it with 10 gallons and move shake and squish vigorously then dump you should be good to go

Re: The maintenance fuel bladders
I’d have to guess cleaning would not be necessary. The problems emanate from moist air getting in the tank. I imagine your bladder isn’t vented, and flattens as it empties? If so, there isn’t a daily air exchange, so moisture should not condense inside, so nothing to feed the creepy crawlies that grow in fuel.

The maintenance fuel bladders
Thomas Kleman
Many/most of us have a COVID related "change of plans" story, but ours included 28 days nonstop Panama to Nuku Hiva, 8 days in Nuku, then 14 days Nuku to Hawaii. We had been Caribbean based our first 9 years of cruising so the distances in the Pacific intimidated us enough to buy a 100 liter fuel bladder to supplement our 10 jerry cans. Of course we used about 20 pct of all this fuel - the first fuel used being from the bladder so I could get it off the cabin top behind the mizzen. That was 8 months ago. I got all the fuel out of it (I hope) and stored it nicely folded back in it's nifty plastic bag. I did nothing to clean it as I had no idea how to and other priorities emerged like finding a place which would take us.
I'm very cautious about fuel; straining everything first, Biobor, changing filters neurotically, etc.) I've read accounts on this site regarding various fuel goblins and problems of that nature and don't want these issues on L'ORIENT. Should I be worried about using this bladder for my return trip to FP from Hawaii (14 days); can/should it be cleaned ? If so, how ? I just have no experience using this a second time. Re: Fresh Water Pump
Karen Smith
Jérémy,
I'll second Bill R.'s opinion, that TF Marine pump is top notch. Very expensive, and lasts forever. Replacing the original pump is usually done because fo the difficulty in parts sourcing. Diaphragm pumps are usually cheaper than other types of similar capacity. I have had poor luck with them--but have not used every brand by any means. Bill Kinney SM160, Harmonie Charleston, SC, USA

Re: Foredeck alarm
Paul,
This happened to me during my first winter storage. It wasn't flat batteries, and I couldn't put my finger on exactly what caused it. The boatyard reported some electrical storm activity around the time, so that could be related. Anyway, now I always turn off the breakers when storing the boat and it hasn't happened again! 🤔 Dean SV Stella A54-154

Re: Fresh Water Pump
Jim Anderson
Hi Jeremy, I replaced the fresh water pump on SM384 with this Sure-Flow pump 9 years ago and it has performed flawlessly. It automatically varies its speed depending on demand, and pumps up to 5 gallons/minute and 55 psi. It is also quieter than the original one, and you can eliminate the hard-to-adjust spring/screw pressure switch. I left the factory accumulator tank in place but it is also not necessary. I bought 2, since it was in-proven but the spare is still sitting in a locker. Jim SM384 Sirena Azul Seattle

Re: novice problem
Danny and Yvonne SIMMS
Hi Matti. See the photos attached. The clamping system mirrors Amels main mast stay attachments. It is important to put the tibe over the mizzen boom for head room. There is no need at all to fix it to the mast. My bimini top is secured by zips to the rail. If I remove the rear curtains I can zip on a mizzen boom tent. The sustem has served us well. Any of the side curtains can be rolled up or removed quickly and easily. The top extension s also quick and easy to remove if so desired. Then you can fold away the whole top Amel style and have it as open as ypu wish. So the system suits us well. We often sail with the windward curtain down and one or both the rear leaving air open to leeward. Mix and match according to conditions. Fully closed, snug as you could wish for.
