Re: Parasailor on A54
If anyone wants to buy one for a deep discount from the original price, contact Dimitris Krasopoulos <dkrasopoulos"at"gmail.com>. The last time I talked to him, he wanted to sell his ParaSailor, used only a few times. Bill

Stefan, We do like it. - the size seems to be about right. We can sail at windspeeds where before, the motor would definitely come on. On the other end, we had a situation at night in an area with low forecasted CAPE and of course a squall hit and we saw over 30 knots apparent.I made the decision to just keep the parasailor up rather than risk crew going forward to try to wrestle it down. No damage or difficulty steering whatever. We just flew along at 9-10 knots. The motion is MUCH improved over the wing on wing setup. The only downside is setting it up can be more work than the wing on wing. I just bought the ATN tacker and will try that out next time we fly it. Joerg seems to love the ATN, so I have high hopes.

Re: AMEL Group Insurance -- Update?
There is a small group of us that are looking at group insurance options again. We have a group member now who has experience with this who is taking the lead. Rather than get everyobe involved now, we are going to see what we can put together first, then present it to the group. A new poll should be going out in the near future, I hope everyone will complete it so we have a good understanding of what interest there is, and what owners are looking for.

Re: Curtain Sizes for SM2000
The curtains on the latter model SMs was a blue and yellow stripe with a UV backing. Ours faded, likely from washing by a previous owner because they were slightly shrunk too. I used an outdoor fabric because I liked it and backed it with Roc-Lon blackout liner. If you make your own replacements, I recommend you follow your own measurements and don't use the old ones as a template (because of the above mentioned shrinking). I would also checkout some of the new fabrics that are blackout built-in so no need to line. Photo is from our cabin and yes, I like the crazy fabric, it's a bit dark back there. Re: Curtain Sizes for SM2000
Kathy has SM2k drapery which is a cotton print with an expected life of 10-12 years. That cotton print is no longer available because cotton prints have a design lifetime of 1-2 years, then replaced with something new by the manufacturer. The cotton print was preceded with a Woven Draylon Velvet which will likely last 100 years.😀 Karen is correct. Making these draperies is very straightforward and I believe almost anyone with a simple sewing machine can make them. Use UV Blackout liner fabric.

Kathy,
The face fabric for the curtains on our SM Harmonie are the original synthetic velour-like upholstery fabric that Amel used throughout the interior. The curtains are a very simple construction of fabric inside, with a UV proof lining facing the window hemmed around the edges. After 25 years of sun exposure several of the linings had disintegrated. We simply ripped the seams along the edges and replaced it. Looks like new. Bill & Karen SM160, Harmonie Charleston, SC, USA

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] electrolysis on jib furling gearbox? [1 Attachment]

We use the Shoresafe galvanic insulator and it is mounted in the engine room just before the automatic shorepower/generator switch (do not connect after this point because the ground connection of that switch is connected to everything that is 220 and it is not switched.
The Shoresafe product is 1)relatively inexpensive 2)has extra reserve amperage capacity and high quality 3)has an external monitor that indicates both AC and DC leakage and 4)the company will respond quickly and thoroughly to issues or questions. If you read their material you will see that it is well thought out. Once we started using the product our zinc usage decline dramatically. The external monitor can be mounted on the side of the "white 220v box" so you can immediately check for a leak when connecting to shore power (vs having to go into the engine room). https://www.safeshoremarine.com/products/ Bob, KAIMI SM429

Hi Joerg and the other Amelians,
regarding your Parasailor/ Oxley. Which size is yours? Are you satisfied with it? Or do you recommend different size? Best regards Stefan A541#119 Lady Charlyette, currently Exumas

Hi Scott,
regarding the size of your Parasailor. Are you satisfied with it? Or do you recommend different size? Btw, the little welded loops far forward on the life rails, circled in blue, are - on my opinion - for connecting a belt as a safety element for the seat / your wife :-) / not falling out forward. Mine made a kind of webbing for it - see attached. Best regards Stefan A541#119 Lady Charlyette, currently Exumas

Hello Nick, This video shows the placement of the transducer, from the outside while Aquarius was on the hard, and video from the inside of Aquarius. You need to build up the fiberglass where you plan to install the transducer. Should not be difficult, and fairly cheap. Then drill and install the through hole. I would install the display in the same location as on Aquarius. This was installed before I bought Aquarius, so I can not take credit, but I have found the placement of the display perfect! Running the transducer cable through the boat take about 1 hour with two people. Had to do this because I hit a log in Columbia and this cracked my transducer. I felt blind without my EchoPilot. Some have said that the forward looking sonar is worthless because you can't see more than a boat length in less than 4 meters of water. When I have 4 meters of water under Aquarius, I can see out about 40 meters. When it gets really shallow, 2.5M, I can usually see about 30 meters. And this information is priceless in those situations. And for those Amel Owners that want to go 6 knots in 2.5 meters of water.... Buy a boat that is better suited for this task.. A Beneteau. Sorry Beneteau owners, but there are so many Beneteau's, 1 missing won't be a big deal. We have a very limited amount of Amel's and we need to keep our fleet safe and sound. These gauges might be filled with either glycerine, mineral oil, or food grade silicone oil. Basically, something inert, that if it leaks into the water side of the gauge will not be toxic. If the "oil" in the gauge dissolves in water--it is glycerine. I can't think off hand of a quick and easy test to differentiate mineral oil from silicone oil.
My preference for a watermaker pressure gauge would definitely be glycerine. Mineral oil and silicone oil would destroy the membranes if they ever leaked into the water side even if they did not poison the resulting drinking water. Bill Kinney SM160, Harmonie Charleston, SC, USA

Insurance My insurance broker recently informed me that they would no longer cover any sailing vessels in the Caribbean, After much discussion with other cruisers and soliciting bids for coverage I could not find acceptable coverage. I was in Grenada at the time and another cruiser had just gotten coverage from a little known company there. The company is Netherlands Ins. Ltd. Based in Grenada with offices in the Netherlands. They don't advertise much but do have an ad in the Caribbean Compass. They have only recently started covering cruising boats and don't have the history of massive hurricane losses. Their main business is large cargo vessels. They are the insurers (carriers) not a broker.' They are slightly more expensive BUT some of the good points are - No depreciation when replacing or repairing, they cover all arbitration and legal fees in damage matters, they cover lighting strike damage, their deductable is 2% for normal damage and 4% for named storm damage and the real kicker is your cruising limits are worldwide! No limits during named storm season. Contact me if you want more details of my coverage. Bill Reynolds S/V Cloudstreet SM2K 331

Re: AMEL Group Insurance -- Update?
Rick, the subject of insurance is back on the table. A small group is looking into it (Teun BAAS, Kent Robertson, Ken Powers, Brent Cameron, David Kurtz, David Vogel and myself). We recently had a brainstorming session, have drafted a survey that hopefully will be out soon after several comments. We will keep you posted. -- John Bernard "JB" Duler San Francisco Meltem # 19, Western Med

Hi, I had the very same problem. I bought some special oil that goes into these gauges. I found the cap on the top of the gauge parished. So I put some tape over it, but it kept loosing oil so I gave up on it and bought a new one.
Be aware that once you start taking the panel apart to replace the gauge you will most likely find more parts that need replacement also because of the taking apart. This is the oil I used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D0HVY8W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Regards, Arno Luijten SV Luna, A54-121
