The only person that knows is the person who installed them. They were not installed by Amel.

Trace the wires.

I agree.  If you're in mud or sand and in a place where you know the depth is going to be fairly level, you can move a bit faster.  But, in this case you don't an FLS to scare you...  Just look at the depth meter.  I took out my FLS transducer by hitting a log about 5 miles off the coast of Columbia close to Magdalena River.   What a bummer.

But, I love my Echo Pilot, especially I'm in badly charted shallow waters with hard stuff around.

Happy Sailing,

Ralf,
You might wish to try a home hardware store or camping van store.  they should have one to fit.   I don't think the company who made these are in business anymore. I tried replacing my a long time ago, but no one knew who made them.

Hi Helen and Kostas,
As others have said there is a drain hole in the bottom of the rudder. The rudder is hollow and the drain hole is in the bottom near the front. Over time, particularly if you spend time in muddy estuaries the rudder can fill with mud. Get a hose and push water up into the hole having first opened the hole with a screwdriver/

Helen,

If I had to guess, the hole at the bottom of your rudder is plugged with debris. Stick a screwdriver in there, rotate it around and it should loosen up any debris. Pour some water into the opening around the middle rudder/skeg bracket to help flush out the debris while you're doing it.

Hope that helps.

Re: Super Maramu rudder filled with water

Your SM had a drain hole at the bottom of the rudder. The hole must be clogged or someone filled it in.

Re: Fresh Water Pump

Ian Townsend

Just wanted to circle back on my experience since starting this thread. We installed a Shurflo Aqua King II 4 gpm variable pressure (up to 55 PSI/3.8 bar) self-priming diaphragm type pump. No need for an accumulator tank and took no time to install. After six weeks, we are quite satisfied with the performance. We do not expect it to last as long as the other kinds of more expensive kit mentioned in responses from various owners (though some say their Aqua King has provided many years of service). But that also means we can carry one or two spares aboard and still be ahead. Those spares will likely be 3 gpm capacity as per Bill Kinsey's suggestion.

Jérémy,

I'll second Bill R.'s opinion, that TF Marine pump is top notch. Very expensive, and lasts forever.

Replacing the original pump is usually done because fo the difficulty in parts sourcing. Diaphragm pumps are usually cheaper than other types of similar capacity. I have had poor luck with them--but have not used every brand by any means.
