Re: Volvo penta D3 110 I-D
I am not very familiar with Volvo but Yanmar have a fuse in the panel. Is the starter getting getting voltage when the key is turned to crank?
With best regards,

Hi Mark Thanks for the response. Hope you and your wife are well in Tahiti. The engine doesn't crank. I turn the key to position 1. The leds flashing around and the ventilator starts. When all LEDs are out I turn the key to position 3 and nothing is happen. The ventilator stopps too. BR Hans

Fuel Bladder on the aft cabin top
eric freedman <kimberlite@...>
Hi Mark, We usually mount a 50-gallon bladder to the cabin top in addition to having 2 aluminum 40 gallon tanks fitted into the life raft locker. 50 Gallons of diesel weighs about 350 pounds. That is not much weight considering the size of the tank. The tank is tied to the rails using line with a wrap around the mizzen. We also use the supplied mounting straps and zip tie them closed as they have had a tendency to loosen. We only do the final tightening of the straps and lines when the tank it totally full.
We use only one hose to fill and empty the bladder. We used to fill the galley garbage can and with the use of a jabsco vane puppy pump we filled the bladder. When the bladder starts to get full we “Burp” the tank by jiggling the tank and reversing the pump to get the air out. I had Amel fit a 24-volt waterproof outlet in the cockpit . The tank we use is the commercial Nauta tank fitted with bronze fittings. The regular Nauta tank used to weep diesel. I fitted an elbow and fuel hose to the tank which ended with a locking ball valve . When it is time to empty the tank we just add a piece of hose and dump the entire tank into the main tank.
We now fill one of the auxiliary tanks with 40 gallons of diesel and while pumping the bladder we add the additional 10 gallons.
It is very important to have the tank very full without any air , it must be tied and strapped down tight, Never empty the tank partially. When the tank is totally full it is hard and does not move one inch.
I have been doing this for many years in all sea states. We just make it a practice to empty it as soon as we need 50 gallons. We then hold it up to get the last drop out , fold it up and put it into the port cockpit locker. We also wrap the locking ball valve with foam rubber when it is on deck and when we put it away.

So in that case, Joel, maybe you should just stick to American - nobody knows nor cares what a bloody "jubilee clip" is, anyway!

I think the SM has a very different place than the 54. Can a SM owner directly reply to the SM requests?

Lovely job!
We are in the middle of doing the same refit. Looked at several different materials and settled on King Starboard. You can get just about any color, size and thickness you want. We went with black, intentionally trying to contrast with the original helm color. The thickness used was 3/8 inch. The finish is matte, so we minimize glare. The material is stable and can be worked with standard work working tools. Matt Talia SM#208

Re: Eumenia Dishwasher Troubleshooting
Thank you Gary, Alexander an Leopold for all of the responses. And particularly for the additional details on the part and access. I have added the capacitor to my shopping list and hopefully my daughter will be able to bring it when she visits in a couple of weeks. I have seen the instructions for access and removal of the dishwasher and did not want to undertake that until I had a good idea of what I should be looking for and what parts I should need to complete the job. Thanks and best regards, Daniel and Lori Carlson on sv BeBe, SM #387

Hello Xavier and my friend Craig Briggs gives me too much credit. My French is not good enough to try to do a “simulcast” in French and English. Perhaps you could have a friend who is bi-lingual watch the zoom meeting with you and translate the parts you don’t quite understand.
Sorry to not be able to accommodate you.
All the best, Joel

Hans,
When you say it doesn’t start, can you be more specific. It doesn’t crank or it cranks and will not fire?

Hello, looking for some troubleshooting tips for my Volvo penta on my 55#13
After replacing the starter battery the engine doesn't start. May be my last try to start the engine with the old starter battery was damaging the pcu. I measure at pin B32 only 10.5 Volt. All the relays and fuses are ok.
In the engine room I find a box 12 and 24 Volt with Murphy Relais. I think this is for the two alternators.
Any help is very much appreciated.

Re: Eumenia Dishwasher Troubleshooting
Gary Silver
Hi Dan:
I recently had similar symptoms on our dishwasher (SM 335), fixed it to sell the boat. It indeed was a smoked capacitor on the pump motor. My experience is that any electrical problem aboard the boat is that any capacitor in the circuit has failed unless proven otherwise. Access was by removing the gimbled stove and the crash bar in front of it, removing the Amel cabinetry panel on the forward face of the dishwasher (4 screws as I recall), removing the metal panel on the forward face of the dishwasher (several sheet metal screws), and removing two sheet metal screws on the port side of the bottom panel to allow that panel to drop down somewhat so my hand could reach to the outboard (port) aft side of the enclosure to access the capacitor. The capacitor is in the far back of the outboard side of the housing below the washer vessel. It is a stud mount, 5 microfarad 470 VAC that I obtained from Mouser Electronics (2 including shipping to Puerto Rico for $21 in 2020) https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/epcos-tdk/b32332i6505j82/?qs=A6ThuIxGArANd2wDnaK6CA%3D%3D&countrycode=US¤cycode=USD Thereafter everything worked like a charm. Hope this helps Gary S. Silver, M.D. Former owner of s/v Liahona Amel SM 335 Owned from new in 2001 until Dec 2020

Hi Dan, we had a similar problem in marinas with 50 hertz. Or does it also react like this on gen-set? If yes I could ask the Austrian dealer for Eumenia ( he is a specialist for this not-any-more-existing brand but doesn’t speak English) if he has an idea about the reason for this nuisance.
