It is my true pleasure to announce our next ZOOM meeting for 10 April at 2000 UTC.
The Subject of this meeting is “How to work with a broker to Buy or Sell your Amel." Included will be tips from one of the world's most experienced Amel brokers, Joel Potter.
I asked Joel Potter to place some of his Amel knowledge and his love of the brand aside for this ZOOM meeting. I asked Joel to use his experience to help you understand how to best work with a yacht broker as a Buyer and as a Seller. I also asked him to provide you with some inside information and tips on how to work with any broker. I do not think that you will find this “inside information” and tips anywhere.
If you own an Amel, someday you will be selling her and a few tips can be worth thousands. If you plan on buying an Amel, chances are you will hear advice that will be “priceless.”
Joel Potter began his Amel selling career 40 years ago in 1981. Since that time and up to the present Joel has sold Amel yachts, almost exclusively. In 2015, Joel retired from selling new Amel boats after nearly 35 years of being Amels exclusive representative for all of North America in order to concentrate on selling preowned Amel boats.
Joel has sold some Amels multiple times, first when they were new and up to 6 times as resales. Without a doubt, Joel knows Amels and he is one of the few brokers in the world that I recommend. Joel is amazingly linked to Amel and one of Amel’s biggest supporters. Joel has also personally owned two Super Maramus and an Amel 54. Re: Remote control for mizen furling
I have same works well, flat batteries is the most common problem, the receiver is just below the mizzen which you found in the roof of the main cabin, the receiver in the aft lazzarette is for the swim platform.

Re: White plastic "tube" standing rigging protection?
Hi guys, It was on my 55 from the factory, stops the Genoa sheet from fraying against the SS stay, it all fell apart after 5 years from the UV, haven’t replaced it. I have been intending to but it’s low on my list of things to do.

Re: Best Sailrite flightcase storage in A54?
Hello Arno, Scott and Domenique, Yes, funny indeed to exchange the few possible storage positions. Mine is under the front portside cabin's bed. But I think, Arno's suggestion is the best. Will think it over. Fair winds - out of Covid Alexander Hofmann. SY Oceanica I. Amel54#156 |

Thanks guys, sounds like it’s an oring on the shaft, that’s my job tomorrow., note it’s the forward deck locker with a southco latch not the Lewmar cabin hatches.

Super Maramu Cockpit Closing
Hello Amelians.
I am replacing the Amel original closing of the cockpit in our Super Maramu. If anyone is interested in the one being replaced I will be happy to give it to whoever wants to replace his. It is in very, very good conditions. Should anyone be interested, please contact me to send pictures, measures, etc. I am currently in Corfú, Greece and plan to sail to Italy and then France from may on. Best. Victor SM314 Alendoy |

Hi Slavko,

Some people like to have those tubes so that when they grab the stay it is easier on the hand, as opposed to cable. The downside is it allows water to remain in contact with the steel, predisposing to rust. I don't think it’s factory installed, plus the plastic would have rotted away by now from the UV. We were re-rigged in Martinique by Gautin, very experienced with Amels. They said they did not have such coverings, and recommended against. Tom Peacock SM 240 Aletes Chesapeake Bay

White plastic "tube" standing rigging protection?
I have number or almost all standing rigging parts from deck level to up to 2m above covered with white plastic tubes. I have asked a rigger what is this for and his response was that it does not make sense. I never so it on other boats. But with Amel one never knows. I have attached a photo where one can see what I am talking about. Any help highly appreciated.

Re: Best Sailrite flightcase storage in A54?
Funny how everyone had a different location.
Ours is in the aft cavity under the table in the main saloon. By sliding the table you get decent access to lift the “spare boat anchor” from the locker. Cheers, Arno Luijten SV Luna, A54-121 |

We don't have a sail rite but rather a cheap Singer and we store it under the aft cabin bed.

Re: Leaking deck hatch latch
Scott SV Tengah
Where is it leaking? I have a 54 but we have Southco latches, too. One was leaking on the shaft. If you see rust on the shaft itself, it's likely the o-ring on the shaft. Take it apart and replace the o-ring and you're good to go. Arno was the first to do it (to my knowledge) so search for his posts.
If it's the sikaflex, just unbolt the whole latch and reseal. No need nor advantage to replace the whole thing. -- Scott 2007 A54 #69 SV Tengah http://www.svtengah.com |

Re: Leaking deck hatch latch
Bob. If you take it apart and clean and re silicone the seals then recaulk I think you’ll be back in business. The caulking especially as it gets dry and brittle need a refresh I found. Otherwise our friends in Rochelle happily will supply you with new parts.

Leaking deck hatch latch
Gentlemen, My Amel 55 has a leaking forward deck hatch, it seems to be the southco latch, Does anyone know where to buy seals for these latches? Couldn’t find any parts on the southco website.

Re: Sea Chest
I have a one-way flap valve between the manifold and the sea-chest/strainer. It is not possible for water to easily flow backward toward the sea-chest even if the engine or genset pulls water faster than the strainer can provide (if dirty). This ensures my pumps for AC, water makers and heads remain primed and I get no air in the sea-chest. The original was brass and I upgraded to stainless when I rebuilt the manifold.
With best regards,
Mark

That would certainly suck air into the strainer because the suction from various pumps would overcome a one-way valve. All of the one-way valves I am familiar with for water do not work well for air.
I am not sure what Mark is talking about because the sea chest contains the strainer.
