Safe Removal

nomadforpaul <pflafrance@...>

Has anyone removed the safe in the aft cabin? Our keypad is broken and we are looking at a new safe to install at a cost of $50.00. We have tried contacting the Italian manufacture and to replace the key pad and no response to date. It would probably be more expensive to have the part shipped to the USA, hence a new safe.
Our safe measures 14" W X 12" D X 9.5" H. We can not remove as it will not come through the cabinet door. We are looking at removing the shelf to turn the safe over on the side to fit through the opening. We believe the front part of the cabinet is fiber glassed in.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Highly reccomend McLube. Its dry, clean, & works incredibly well.
Great used on sails to seal & makes them easier to furl in the mast.

All,

Our outhaul car on the mizzen recently failed. The shackle cracked
and broke that secures the outhaul line and sail to the car. When I
inspected the shackle on the main outhaul, I found it cracked. You
may want to check yours.

It appears that the Mizzen outhaul car has to be removed to replace
the shackle because the top of the car must be removed to allow the
shackle-retaining pin to be removed. The car halves are secured with
4 bolts and nuts. I assume that as soon as I separate the halves
that I will have bearings falling everywhere. I now wish that I had
a small pieces of track to enable removal of the various cars. Also,
I noticed on Anatal's website that the 4100/SH (the NEW replacement
for mine) allows the removal of the shackle without separating the
car halves. If you have experienced this failure, any suggestions
would be appreciated.

I uploaded a photo in the "Rigging" folder of "Photos" on this
website. You may be able to link directly to it using this link: http://groups

Rép. : [Amel] Outhaul Cars Main and Mizzen

Serge Tremblay <laetitiaii@...>

In 2007, while sailing on the Med, the shakle linking the mizzen car to the pulley broke.
The car is Goiot  but the SS shakle (unmarked)  broke leaving a star telltale crack, which seems to indicate the SS had crystalized. I replaced same with a larger size, but i am now afraid other portions of the original systems may fail.

The lesson: the shakles are a weak link to be checked regularly.

Joel,

Thanks for the info, but I guess it left the boat with Rich...he probably didn't know what it was and just packed it! The fact that Amel placed such an item on board, is just simply amazing as compared to what any other boat builder would do. I do not remember this as part of your pitch. It is a small thing, but just proves the minute attention to detail and the "real world" approach Amel has to outfitting an ocean cruiser. Like a lot of things, it isn't a big deal until you need one.

I will keep my eyes open for another Amel...if we find one, I will go ask for a "cup of" mizzen track...in the mean time I will get myself a 6mm shackle.

Anyone on this list in the Singapore area?

Thanks again Joel.

Best,

Bill

The Lupolite were a little bit to small to fit in the existing lamp. So we manufactured a plastic plate that fitted inside the lamp and then we made a hole in the middel and mounted the Lupolite.

Hi Kent and Annsofie,

I am in the process of replacing my forward decklight in total as the fitting was broken in a storm in the Aegean this summer. I would appreciate details of the LED replacement Annsofie.

For your information Kent, the original sealed beam lamp was manufactured by GE as an aircraft light 28 V and 50 Watts Pt No GE 4015 and stamped MADE IN USA, A 36.. on the back of the glass. The cost from my local supplier was £46 delivered to UK and seemed expensive.

Why don't you mount LED instead? It will save you a lot of power.

We have changed all our navigational (Hella) and deck lights (lupolight) into LED and are very satisfied. The LED deck-light gives a much better light than the ordinary.

The power consumtion of the LED is about 20% of the consumtion of the ordinary light bulbs.

Hi, again, all.
Simple ? this time. I'm changing the bulb in the mast worklite (that shines on the forward deck) but the old one had no identifying marks. I found a replacement that was already on board in a box that had been opened and had only a handwritten "24v 25w". That doesn't seem very bright for a worklight that far above the deck. I know it's 24v, but can anyone tell me what wattage it is? Is the cockpit flood mounted on the mizzen mast the same?
Thanks,

Thank you all for your replies...who'd a thunk there would be so many replies about a lite bulb? I'm not ready to spend any more money right now on LED's but after reading earlier posts that's on my wish list. I found a source for the 4502 and 4505 bulbs near by for around $10 US. Maybe when they burn out I'll be ready to go LED.

Re: [Amel] DSC as an add-on

Lars H. Knudsen <museum@...>

Dear Attilio & Maria

I own a similar Santorin and did throw out my working 8100 to instead
install an iCom DSC VHF with an extra Command Mike mounted at the steering
position. This not only works perfectly, but is also interfaced to my GPS
for automatic position indication and can also report DSC calls on my
chartplotter from Garmin.

Added to this is new features like automatic foghorn capabilities, intercom
(well, not that important, but anyway…) and PA-capacilities through a
speaker on the main mast. So now I can shout really loud to my fellow
sailors if they don’t behave… J

You will enjoy the much more modern user interface on a new VHF DSC radio,
you can buy one with built-in AIS receiver and all-in-all it will probably
cost the same or less than adding an external DSC unit to your existing
Shipmate radio.

Kent, The 25 watt is OK for the mizzen, but you should use the hard to find aircraft GE bulb no.4593 for the main mast. Its 28 volts and 50 watts.
Any GE dealer should be able to order it for you. I got some from Aircraft Spruce & Specialty Co. in Georgia phone 877-4777823 John "Moon Dog" SM 248

Subject: [Amel] Mast Worklite

Hi, again, all.
Simple ? this time. I'm changing the bulb in the mast worklite (that shines on the forward deck) but the old one had no identifying marks. I found a replacement that was already on board in a box that had been opened and had only a handwritten "24v 25w". That doesn't seem very bright for a worklight that far above the deck. I know it's 24v, but can anyone tell me what wattage it is? Is the cockpit flood mounted on the mizzen mast the same?
Thanks,
Kent
