Re: Need to align C-Drive to Engine - Santorin currently North side of Sicily
Yes! I had this done in palermo 3 years ago after a hack job mech in mallorca failed to do it right and trashed my vetus coupling rubbers in a few hundred miles. Limped in, found Gabriele Galizzi, at nautica Galizzi, in palermo old port. He had never done one before but I showed him the specs to make the alignment tool (you need this tool without question), he whipped it up in an hour, and did the job fast and well. 3 years on, many hundreds of miles motored, perfect. Great young guy (son of owner). Can't say enough about gabri. One of the few good guys out there. If you go to him, stay next door at sitimar. Also a great young guy, cheapest, friendliest, knows gabri, no worries.

Re: Speed sensor rubber cap
I had exactly the same issue. My sonic speed stopped working. I dove and found that I had one big barnacle on the rubber cap When I pulled on the barnacle the cap came off. Amel told me to reattach it with silicone sealant on the edges. I didn't haulout to do that and waited for about 6 months for a scheduled haul out. I replaced the cap, but Sonic Speed never worked. Good luck! Lior, Seawater flows to the aft first then in series to the other two. What you have cannot be a water flow issue. Re: Water maker - mental moment
The solenoid is the likely culprit. It can be removed and cleaned. Soak the parts in vinegar to remove the calcium.

Re: Water maker - mental moment
Bill I think you’re completely correct with your conclusion about the three way valve. Many thanks for that great tip !!!
I’m having long time the same problem as David. Only difference is that I’m having a manual shut off valve ( grey/blue valve on the picture ) in the fresh water line before the three way valve. That one I always shut off manually to get rid of the problem that the fresh water pump goes on every 20 minutes. But to run the watermaker I need to go in the engine room to open that manual valve to allow the watermaker to do a flush after use. When ready I need go in the engine room again to shut the same valve. I thought that the only culprit to this problem was the solenoid valve.
Asked the Dessalator dealer here in La Rochelle to check it but he could not solve the problem. Asked the Amel crew on the Amel pontoon which also had a look but couldn’t find the cause. Went back to the Dessalator dealer and he told me it could be some calcium on the solenoid valve which blocked it from closing completely. He advised me to order a new one. Which I did. Installed that new valve (by coincidence yesterday) and the problem was still there !!
Today I read your remark about the three way valve. I closed that valve (horizontal) left the manual grey/blue valve open and to my surprise problem was gone ! Which mean that your correct, the fresh water was simply leaking via the three way valve back to the seawater intake. And NOT via the solenoid valve ! I never thought about that possibility. Not only me … but also not the Dessalator dealer and also not the Amel crew on the pontoon.
Again big thanks for the great advice !!

Speed sensor rubber cap
Mohammad Shirloo
Our speed sensor was a bit erratic after a 3 week stay in Venice. I dove in it today to clean the rubber caps with my diving gloves. The rubber cap came off of the forward sensor and I was able to catch it before it went to the bottom.

Re: Air in the cooling system of CLIMMA Aircon
I do not think you can have air in the sea water cooling system if the other two units work. The cooling is one circuit, sea water into pump then flows through each aircon compressor one after another with the final one being in the port forward cabin and out over the side.

Your problem in the aft cabin is something else, possibly low refrigerant? Or something else…hard to say…. Nick S/Y Amelia AML 54-019 Leros Gr

Researching low profile solar panels
Hello,
I have a unique setup, an arch in front of the mizzen mast where 19W flexible solar panels were installed maybe 20 years ago. They are dead.
The boat is based near Barcelona. Where is a good source to get panels in Europe? I know where to go in the US but not in Europe. Thanks again for the help, -- John Bernard "JB" Duler San Francisco Meltem # 19, Western Med

Thank you a lot for the advice. Actually, I don't find any water filter at the aircon. It is also very hard/impossible to see something at the backside of the aircon. Thanks Lior SHARONA A54 #18

Buying an Amel
Paul Harries
This forum is superb, the one most important thing I have gleamed is to buy a boat that isin excellent condition as refurbished can break the bank.
Covid has changed things, there is a lot more windown shopping, jetting around looking at lots of boats is no longer easy. What tips can you owners give on picking out excellent boats from the ads? Obviously I am well aware of Bill's and Joel's services. -- Paul Harries Prospective Amel Buyer

In Italy a reference for Amel Yachts and also other sailboats is Davide Zerbinati (info@...). He is based in the north of Italy but has a good knowledge of available resources in the country. Unless a better option through the Amel Group, I would contact him for advice. Fair winds, Marco Baldan (not yet an Amel owner but looking for a Maramu)

Alain Durante <info@...>
Hello,
Just came back from the boat and took the photo here under.
As you can see, the MOTA is bigger and longer than the original oil cooler and that might be a little more work to fix it on the engine frame.
Not difficult but needs to be very tight to avoid to touch the shaft brake disk when engine is running.
Maybe it will be easier to only order a new Bowman oil cooler together with 2 additional neoprene moulding to be used with the old cooler as a spare unit.

my transmission oil cooler has a fitting of about 1.6 cm (5/8 Zoll). Should I replace the L fitting (by Bowman or Mota)? Thank you in advance. Lior

Air in the cooling system of CLIMMA Aircon
Lior Keydar
Hi
Today I serviced the saltwater pump of the Air condition (3x CLIMMA 9 BH). Only the aircon in the aft cabin does not work. It is getting very fast hot and shut off incl. the 220v switch. Is it possible that there is air inside the water cooling system of this air con? the water flows out. The other two air con works perfectly. Thanks for your help. Lior, SHARONA A54 #18

Re: Water maker - mental moment
David, the actual 3-way manual valve has been known to leak also...And, of course, it could be a leaking 1-way valve on the freshwater pump.

SM Skeg
Andrew & Kate Lamb
On the skeg at one of the rudder fixtures there is a screw on either side fixed into I think a Nylon bush. They look like they might be for grease? There is no mention of this being a maintenance point in the Amel documentation. Does anyone
know what these screws are for - see photo- perhaps they are just to be removed in the event of lifting of the rudder?
