FA50 Silent mode on A54?
Chris Likins
Hello All,
Can someone explain to me how to go into “Silent Mode” on the Furuno FA50 so the AIS only receives and doesn’t transmit (Amel54 #133)? With the standard network setup I thought there should be a function on the Navnet3d menus but it doesn’t seem to exist. Any help or advise appreciated! Chris

Slavko,
I’m not 100% sure but as per photo you attached seems that Agua Signal lamps are same on SM and A54, but please check that.
However I found on mizzen mast lamp number 526-156 engraved in plastic case. Maybe that is model number?

Since we are on the subject of Bowthrusters, I would like to buy all necessary switch and sensor spares for our A54. Can someone please provide source and part numbers for purchase in the U.S.?
We did manage to purchase the main relay and one as spare while in Croatia. Any other bowthruster parts that are good to carry as spares?

Alan - nice to hear from you. I do understand what you are saying, but 2 of my sensors are suspect so I didn’t see any benefit to swapping them around. After reading your post, I traced the sensor wires to their respective pots and could test to see if voltage is present, but after talking to Mark I think I’m going to wait until I get the new board from him. The unit is functional at the moment - it goes up and down. We just have to turn off the up switch before it gets too high and pull the cables for the last bit for pinning. I spoke to Duane Siegfri formally on Wanderer, and he seems to think it is our sensors, so I will order a couple of those from Maud unless someone knows a source here in the States? Thank you Bill and Alan for your help. I will follow up with my findings once I get my hands on the parts. There are a number of cleaning products on the market that will flush crustations , mussel shells, etc from your seawater cooling system.
What none of them tell you is that well worn transmission heat exchanger units are susceptible to the highly corrosive nature of the chemicals employed. Which is why I spent a windless night on the VHF screaming at shipping with nobody on watch off Acapulco with a seized gearbox and subsequently had a new gearbox shipped from Florida - six weeks. The good part was, collecting the gearbox from the bus station, ferried it out to the anchorage in our dinghy, hoisted it aboard on the mizzen halyard, bolted it up, slid the engine back on the runners and we were away to Costa Rica the next day. I know they were the same at the beginning of production, but I do not know if they were the same throughout the 54 production.

Hi all, we had the same problems with all Southco-locks. Some of the O-rings were worn out, most of the pins were bent. It was a problem to get O-rings with the same specifications. Finally we used O-rings with the following dimensions: Inner diameter 10 mm, outer diameter 13.8 mm, cord thickness 1.9 mm. A slightly thicker cord also works, but makes it difficult to insert the O-rings. It is important to grease the O-rings well. We replaced the original pins with shear pins for the propeller of the Honda Bf 2.3 outboard. Diameter 3.3 mm, length 23 mm. Honda sparepart number 58131-ZV0-000. It is necessary to drill out the diameter of the pin hole slightly to 3.3 mm. The pin can then be inserted with contact adhesive. However, it also works without adhesive, the spring pressure holds the pin in position.

Re: Upgrade to Lithium batteries, detailed circuit
#solution
Hello Slavko,
Ipanema was originally built for an American customer and, for that reason, AMEL added the white box outlets on the factory to allow the use of 110 V shore power via a transformer or the 220 V shore power. I imagine most Amels buit for European owners did not have such a box. I added the extra outlet to the box because it was the simplest way to get the 5KW inverter output into the circuit making sure that it was not going to interfere with the AMEL automatic relay connecting the Genset power but still gave power to the watermaker. However, upon second thoughts, a manual 3 terminal switch could also have been installed on the shore power ac cable before it enters the automatic relay for the Genset power. This would require bringing both the inverter and shore power cables to a convenient place in the boat, perhaps near the auto-pilot switch, or into a new box in the engine compartment ( less convenient but shorter cable runs). As for the location of the 5KW inverter, I installed it on the bulkhead between the main saloon and the battery compartment. In this way, I did not have to reduce the space for the lithium batteries.

JOSE PRIETO
The main problem is to remove the element because theres no space to turn the tool (55 mm hex wrench). There are two metal tubes that runout from the heater very close to the element.
