My 1989 SM hull #6 is currently in the boatyard having the rigging replaced.
I can ask boatyard for details if that helps. We intend to coppercoat our hull and in these recessionary times we are considering doing the work ourselves. We seek advice as to the most effective method of anti-foul removal, and wonder if strong caustic might do the trick, or would it damage the gel ?.

Re: [Amel] 8 HP OUTBOARD ENGINE
Horst Pause <horst.puddleduck@...>
Hi Bob,
First hoist the mizzen boom end with its topping lift. Then I open the fasteners of the motor on the wooden board and attach the lower block to the top of the engine. Now take the free end of the sheet down to the dinghy, lift the motor and swing it out. Lower it to the dinghy transom and close the fasteners. Re-do the mizzen now or wait until you lift the motor back up again. Hi Vicente
In any conditions your 4 stroke is a heavy engine to handle even with a second person. Would you consider a second option. We have a small Susuki 2 stroke engine as back up and it is much lighter and easier for one person to handle. We have a 3.10 meter dingy and the 2 stroke pushes it along just fine. Re: [Amel] 8 HP OUTBOARD ENGINE
Horst Pause <horst.puddleduck@...>
I have always lowered my outboard on my own. I undo the mizzen sheet at the traveller and lower the motor with that, controlling the mizzen sheet from the dinghy. Very easy, and it even works in a bit of a roll. Horst

Yes, the problem is that you cannot lower the motor when you are in the dinghy. From the main boat, I lift mine off the rail, then swing it out about the distance needed to meet the dinghy transom properly (approx 1 meter)and tie the mizzen boom in that position with an elastic bungy cord. Then I lower the motor so the bottom of the engine housing is just out of the water (this does not work if the boat is rolling very much!). Finally, I get in the dinghy, move it in place under the motor and pick up the motor the few centimeters needed to get the bracket over the transom. Voila! Cheers, Craig

I have the same engine on my SM2000. The best is to attached to rings on the
metal side of the motor so you can hang the motor from there is very helpful. The second is to find in your boat the rope with two inox shackles that you put on the rings on the motor and you put the put through the two rollers on the mizzen boom. The end of the rope has a small loop and you attach this to the halyard used for the passarele by this way you can pull up the motor with the winch and release it to the dinghy by moving the boom over the dinghy and lower the motor. It is better to try the procedure without swell. I put a rope from the back of the dinghy to the boat to fix it alongside the side of the boat. MARAMU CHARGER PROBLEMS
We own Maramu hull #94, built in 1981. It is equipped with the original Scheiber S.A. charger/transformer which is not sending any charge to the house batteries. I also recently changed my batteries but something seems to be wrong with the charger or the way I connected the batteries. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to test the charger to insure it is working properly or not? Does anyone have a diagram of how the 4 6V house batteries should be connected onboard to provide 12V?

Re: Bow thruster seals
rossirossix4
It is a sealant. RTV means Room Temperature Vulcanization meaning that the rubber sets up and binds without heat. These are "adhesive sealants" and they have are not strong like say 5200 or urethane glue, but more like regular silicone adhesive/sealants. The Blue RTV is a Loctite Permatex product that can be used to make gaskets (handy to have on your boat). I have used it both on the thruster seals (on the seal surface that is on the thruster body NOT on the rotating shaft) and it works well. This product is also good for bedding the rubber push buttons on the windlass.

A couple of years ago, someone posted an excellent file and photos related to servicing bow thruster seals. They referred to something called RTV, which was used to help secure the seals to the opening. I believe RTV is silicone. Were they referring to silicone grease or sealant? Thanks!

The batery compatment is outside the stove you have to remove the
stove in order to be able to get to the batery and check the connection. The only problem is that the stove is heavy and you have to remove the gas hose as well.
