Maramu engine replacement

I have an 1985 Maramu with a Perkins 4.154 that I had to replace a fresh water pump on last week. I had trouble finding the replacement pump and heard a lot of comments about "this is obsolete" and we can't get parts any longer. Have other owners of this engine has the same problem and do you know if there is a suitable replacement engine that will fit? Do I need to make major modifications to the engine mounting platform and do I need to replace the transmission too?

We have the same AC problem. Have had several communications with the yard about the units freezing up and the only solution to date has been to take the units off auto and set the fans on the highest or second highest speed. When comparing this problem to the CruiseAir units we had on our previous boat (which did not freeze up) Amel said it is because Climea does not have a sensor to detect a freezing up. I suspect they are working with Climea to get a fix for future boats, but I think we are stuck with this.

Perfect tool for cleaning the Sea Chest fill pipe and seacock

I have had various sticks, rods and pipes that I have used to clean out the Sea Chest fill pipe and seacock, but none of them worked as good as the one that I recently fabricated. I made it out of a piece of electrical PVC conduit with an OD of about 21.4mm and a bottle brush with an OD of about 40mm. I bent a small loop in the wire end of the bottle brush and secured it to the PVC by drilling and screwing a small stainless steel screw through the pipe, grinding off the tip of the screw.

Really works great. I think it should be required equipment!

the settings for a new set of batteries, we lost the display for % of
capacity remaining that showed with the t function. The t function now shows
hours remaining, which is the default setting but not nearly as helpful as
%. The manual has no references to a % function. Does anyone know how to set
up the monitor for %? Or am I misunderstanding the instrument?

with it by reducing the temperature in 3 degree steps, as recommended by the

I am looking for answers on SM2k anchor chain.

Here is what I know about the anchor chain on SM #387:
It is 10mm, ISO standard (the inside dimension the long-way of a link is 30mm...if it were DIN standard, it would be 28mm).

What I want to know:
Is it BBB, OR is it HT (high test chain)?

I would appreciate any help you can provide.

Hydranet sails

Please note that Dimension Polyant manufactures two types of Hydranet cloth. One is a crosscut and the other is radial.

The crosscut has not held up well so not too many sailmakers will recommend it.

The radial cloth is excellent, however quite expensive.

We are building sails for a Catana catamaran right now using carbon/technora load path membrane which is more economical.

International demand for Hydranet is so low that Dimension Polyant now only manufactures when they have an order.

themselves?
3. are there any special items 'not to miss' upon lifting of the boat?

I was in Yasmine Hammamet Marine this summer and due to a problem with my
genoa I asked the marina office for a sail maker. They gave me the number
for a Tunisian sail maker who did a very good job for me. This sail maker
told me that they could supply me with sails and was the Tunisian outlet for
Technique Voile.



The number to the sail maker is: (216) 96225151 and it was only two months
ago. Hammamet is around 50 km north of Sousse.

We always had our general work done by Selmar Yacht Service in Turgutreis.
Last year, we were on the hard stand at Yalikavak to have our rigging
replaced by Sound Yachts. We had a major service done on our engine this
year by Tuncar Marine. They are also at Yalikavak and did a good job but
they are reasonably expensive. Our boat was in the marina at Turgutreis when
this was done and we had to pay 15 Euro plus tax per person per day entry
fee because they came from another marina and there were workshops in our
marina that did the same thing.

Hello to the Amel Yacht Owners group.



We are relatively new owners of an Amel Maramu 1987, hull 225. We love our
yacht and have greatly appreciated the rich exchange of information shared
between members of this group.



One of the topics I have been unsuccessful in researching and gaining
insight into has to do with the Maramu design to have all of the electrical
load, except for engine start, on the house battery side. On a recent
outing, my chart plotter shut down because of the power surge/draw through
the use of the main power furling. I am now very concerned that I could
damage sensitive electrical equipment through the loading from motors on the
same battery bank. So far, I have ensured that the battery terminals and
contacts, including main-isolator switches are clean. I have torn apart and
refurbished the furling motors (which were in good shape). Batteries are 3
years old and appear to be in good shape. So I am not convinced that I have
been successful in solving this problem.



Does anyone have insight regarding the house and start electrical load
design? Why are the motors, including windlass, Bow Thruster are on the
house side instead of the start side, which everyone is telling me should be
the case.

We had a drifter made by Seamtek in Sousse in Tunisia in 2005. They were the
Tunisian branch of Technique Voile and sails were computer cut. Their
factory was very impressive and sails were duty-free for foreign boats.
Can't see them on the net so don't know if they still exist or have another
name.
