Amel scanned manuels

Danny and Yvonne SIMMS

Hi Mark, I have a CD of the standard hard cover manuel that Amel supplies. Are yours more comprehensive than these? I see you have one on construction, how detailed is that? We are considering having our SM2K surveyed in NZ so we can take paying guests out. Maritime NZ requires construction details for the survey

Last year, we scanned the manuals for all the systems, including the Amel documents and schematics and posted a link to an external site where others could download them. I don't know if anyone did and the site I put them doesn't exist anymore. Let me know if there is interest and I can find another place to host the files. We put all the manuals on our laptops and ipad and have found it quite handy to always have them available. The total scans were about 500MB and we only scanned English when there were multiple languages.

COMMENT ABOUT THE FILES SECTION OF THIS WEBSITE:
If the Moderator/Owner and/or the author of a files upload can delete what they feel is unnecessary files from the FILES section of this website, we could make some room for some others. Currently Yahoo allows only 100MB for FILES and we are at 97% of capacity.

The PHOTOS section allows us 100GB and we are less than 1/2% of capacity in PHOTOS.

Yahoo only allows either the Group Moderator/Owner or the individual (author) that posted the file to delete the file. I have noticed that there are some unnecessary files that were posted by members who are not even currently active, so it will take the Group Moderator/Owner to act on those.

I have a PDF file of the complete manual for a SM2000 which is
17,200k...fairly large file. Unfortunately, it is too large to add
to the files section of this website which is almost full. This has
the ballooner instructions as well as everything else for a SM2000.

If you have a good Internet connection, I can email it to you if you
will post or send me your complete email address in this format:

I do not have a great Internet connection, and believe I can only get
this out one time...anybody else want a CC, let me know.

Maramu, Mango or Santorin to visit near Houston Texas.

I would really appreciate if I could visit a Maramu, Mango and especially Santorin near Houston, TX (I live in League City near Kemah). So that I can get a better feeling for the space onboard.

I haven’t completely made up my mind on which Amel I would like. Last Summer I visited a Super Maramu which was in Kemah.

I will be glad to bring some wine or other for your time.

location of life raft

john martin <symoondog@...>

Recently there were some posts discussing various locations to put our life rafts, other than where Father Amel intended them to be. It seems some people want quick access to them so are stowing them on deck. I was just thinking about this .... has anyone ever heard of an Amel sinking in a storm ? I'm not talking about sinking on a reef, at a dock, or on a mooring or at anchor... I mean sinking offshore during a storm.

I recently read "Rescue in the Pacific," a book about a group of sailboats who were caught in a ferocious Force 12 storm lasting 2 days in 1994. The only people who died were the ones who elected to abandon their boat and get in their life raft. The Coast Guard recovered that life raft and evidence showed that the crew had been tossed out of the top of it, as the top was entirely torn away.

During the storm, seven boats were abandoned after their crews were rescued, and the rest of the boats (about 30) made it through the storm. Of the seven boats abandoned, two were sunk intentionally by their owners (to prevent a hazard to navigation) and one was sunk (unintentionally) by damage caused by the rescue ship that tried to tow it to safety. The remaining four abandoned boats were eventually found floating and in reasonable condition; one was even found six months later (anchored nicely by the anchor the skipper had thrown in during the storm to act as a drogue !). When they interviewed the survivors after the storm, they all agreed that they did not think they would have survived in a life raft in those monstrous seas and 60-90kts of wind.

I was thinking after reading this book, that if no rescue ships had come and everyone had stayed with their boats, it is possible that every person and every boat would have made it through one of the worst storms in recent history.

I believe that if a skipper is worried about getting the life raft quickly out of its designated locker, the skipper should wait until the time of danger is becoming "likely," then pull it out and lightly secuire it in a position more ready to deploy. Crisis situations rarely occur instantaneously and there is almost always ample time to see an abandon-ship situation develop. In the "old days," before satelite navigation and AIS, situations requiring immediate deployment of a life raft, (i.e., hitting a reef suddenly in the middle of the night, or being brutally crushed by a large ship), were real possibilities, but nowadays, assuming that no-one is completely "asleep at the wheel" and not paying any attention whatsoever, such occurrences should be rare indeed.

On our SM316 we have no problem so I have not the best experience

*But you can try this* : there is an "pressostat" ( in french) that is a
pressure switch that regulate the low pressure of yout AC, normally you
can change the low pressure bys turning a screw.
Try to increase the low pressure*to have the bowling point near 0 or
-5°C* (fan run more quickly and temp of cool air is a little bit higher)

Hoping it can help you

to express my big disappointment relating to the air-condition of the

able to cope with the normal heat of the Mediterranean summer. Once
they are icy they do not produce cold air anymore. It might work up to
temperatures around 25C but not above. Even if you follow the
advice of Amel to go step by step to lower degrees it does not work.
This is clearly a question of bad design. I never had this kind of
problems with the aircons of the Super Maramu it is bringing some
shame on the Amel yard. I talked to some expert who told me that the
in- and outlet of the units are way to small. Now I do not know what
to do. Does anybody else has noticed this problem?

Having sailed our new 54 first time in the Med this summer I have to express my big disappointment relating to the air-condition of the AMEL 54. All three of the units tend to get icy because they are not able to cope with the normal heat of the Mediterranean summer. Once they are icy they do not produce cold air anymore. It might work up to temperatures around 25C but not above. Even if you follow the advice of Amel to go step by step to lower degrees it does not work. This is clearly a question of bad design. I never had this kind of problems with the aircons of the Super Maramu it is bringing some shame on the Amel yard. I talked to some expert who told me that the in- and outlet of the units are way to small. Now I do not know what to do. Does anybody else has noticed this problem?

I have my masts down on my Maramu, hull #173, for re-rigging and have noticed that the gears for the mizzen furler are badly worn. Has anyone replaced these gears and if so, do you have a contact for ordering them. Were the custom made or is their a stock gear that works?

Thanks or any advice you can offer.

Re: [Amel] RE: Renault--mast paint

bsarff@...

Do you know if Awlgrip can be applied over existing paint on an older Maramu (1985).  I  have been told that if the original paint is a one part paint then i can not use a two part paint over it with out completely stripping all paint off.  The original paint appears to be a two part paint but I don't know how to verify it.  Does anyone have info on this?

Are you talking about SM mast paint or an earlier model? For my SM 2000,
Amel quoted me the following:

Paint Awlgrip Type 00B006G (White Amel No 3)

Hardener 000G3010 Awlgrip Cat 2

Thinner 000T0001

If the Renault paint matches, then it would sure be easier to obtain
here in Cyprus. Can someone please verify that t does match on a SM?

I thought someone once posted the part number of the paint on the

I could not locate it.

I need to touch up the base of my main mast and would like to use the same
paint.

I just do not have any knowledge of Renault paints and plan to use
Awlgrip
which I am familiar with and think cannot be beat for a boat. I am
sure Amel
