Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Fuel shut-off valves?
For Santorin owners, when I first bought the boat I had the shut off valve closed (by accident). The engine stopped after 3 minutes, in the middle of a marina! So it works ok on our model!

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Batteries - What type house batteries to use & what voltage charge from Solar/Wind?
Hi Colin. The simplest possible reason. A previous owner went that way. Also the battery area is neatly filled with the 12 six volts and again the previous owner had installed two starting batteries

I recently replaced a set of 12V wet cells. The wet cells lived a good,
long life so no complaints.
I replaced them with 12V Trojan AGM's (8D size) a few months ago- working
great so far but I

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Batteries - What type house batteries to use & what voltage charge from Solar/Wind?
Very easy, the golf cart 6V batteries are heavy duty batteries designed for high loads and high output during a long time. Which is a good description of the load on a Super Maramu.

Bill,
Thanks for that. I meant to include in my post that the cell-failure situation has favorable issues for a 6VDC as compared to a 12VDC battery because the 6VDC has half the cells.
I have found

Some thoughts on the advantages of 6 volt batteries, not things you can easily put into your spreadsheet however!
When planning a new installation, 6 volt batteries are available in bigger sizes,

Hi one other issue in the event you have a issue with a size 31 12v finding a replacement for anything other then a wet cell flooded battery will be difficult at best.

Colin,
Too bad you cannot ask Henri Amel why he did not go with 6VDC batteries.
I am not an expert by any means, but I always try to stick with the original solutions on a SM because I know the

Thank you all for the responses received thus far. From what has been said till now it certainly looks like there is wisdom in staying with the traditional flooded battery solution in a good brand

Paul,
You can make a zinc for the spurs line cutter by cutting it out of a boat zinc. It will not be a pretty as the Spurs zinc, but if you want a zinc on the line cutter, it will work. I have done

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Broken shackle on Main Sail car
Thanks Derick, this is good news for the shackle!
I would guess a few bolt to remove… haven’t look yet.
Walter, I agree with breaking shackle instead of the whole car!
Sincerely, Alexandre

Hi,
We have had AGM high performance batteries, first time the bank was based on 12v AGMs best available at the time 2007. Second attempt to the AGMs was with high performance Golf Cart batteries, 6v.

BeBe #387 has batteries similar to original batteries which are freedom-type lead/calcium batteries.
If you are considering something different, be sure to consider charging parameters. BeBe's house
