Also an SM owner, older SM though...assuming that all the breakers are turned on (control power too) I found when the brushes in the motor are near the end of life the motor will sometimes work

I have inverted the picture. My furler only opens from the bottom, it just appears too open at the top. I think it was just a different casting, but the unit is the same.
